Selon Hamer, la maladie est la réponse intelligente de notre corps, parfois sur la base de codes ancestraux que nos cellules ont mémorisé. Par exemple, si j'ai froid, j'ai la "chair de poule". On pourrait à la limite considérer la chair de poule comme une maladie de la peau. Au contraire, c'est une réponse que notre organisme ou notre cerveau considère intelligente car, se souvenant de l'époque où le corps était couvert de plumes ou de poils, il fait réagir la peau pour qu'elle redresse ces plumes et ces poils pour pouvoir mieux résister au froid. Le mécanisme est le même pour toutes les maladies. La maladie est donc biologiquement la réaction la plus appropriée que le cerveau met en oeuvre en réponse à un choc ou à une forte contrariété existentielle. Une fois résolu le choc, le cerveau invertit son programme et la maladie évolue dans une phase de réparation qui amène doucement à la guérison, en passant par la fièvre et l'inflammation. Comprendre ceci signifie ne plus se sentir une victime passive, ne plus paniquer, mais comprendre et accompagner la maladie dans son parcours de guérison. Les histoires et les explications que fournit Pierre Pellizzari stimulent notre désir de réagir différemment. Le livre est aussi un instrument de consultation grâce à la liste des pathologies à consulter pour mieux comprendre ce qui s'est passé et ce qui se passe. Les conseils de comportement qui sont fournis dans le chapitre des "lettres à des amis" sont clairs, coulent de bon sens et sont encourageants. Les cinq lois biologiques de la Médecine Nouvelle de Hamer ont été vérifiées officiellement plusieurs fois: par lui-même, par des docteurs, des chercheurs et deux universités.
