Book Synopsis Libraries at the Heart of Dialogue of Cultures and Religions by : Thierry-Marie Courau
Download or read book Libraries at the Heart of Dialogue of Cultures and Religions written by Thierry-Marie Courau and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-22 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From antiquity until the present, libraries have served to witness cultural and religious exchanges between civilizations. A number of famous libraries have often acted as the cornerstones of the history of humankind in all its diversity. In 2014, in addition to the world congress of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), satellite meetings were held in Paris. The theme of these meetings was “Libraries at the Heart of Dialogue of Cultures and Religions”. The presentations centred around three aspects: “Religious Libraries and History,” “Anticipating and Facing Urgent Issues,” and “New Technologies and Networking to Solve Some Issues.” The publication of these proceedings allows to draw up a panorama of the questions raised by these themes, highlight some initiatives, and offer solutions or lines of thought to professionals and Library and Information Science students.

Book Synopsis High Resolution Archaeology and Neanderthal Behavior by : Eudald Carbonell i Roura
Download or read book High Resolution Archaeology and Neanderthal Behavior written by Eudald Carbonell i Roura and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide a new insight on Neanderthal behaviour using the data recovered in level J of Romaní rockshelter (north-eastern Spain). Due to the sedimentary dynamics that formed the Romaní deposit, the occupation layers are characterized by a high temporal resolution, which makes it easier to interprete the archaeological data in behavioural terms. In addition, the different analytical domains (geoarchaeology, lithic technology, zooarchaeology, taphonomy, anthracology, palaeontology) are addressed from a spatial perspective that is basic to understand human behaviour, but also to evaluate the behavioural inferences in the framework of the archaeological formation processes.
Download or read book Lebanon written by Paul Doyle and published by Bradt Travel Guides. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new, thoroughly updated third edition of Bradt’s Lebanon remains the only English-language guide dedicated to the smallest country on the Asian continent. Comprehensively updated throughout to reflect recent economic, political and social changes, it includes revised and new listings for hotels, restaurants, and what to see and do, catering for all types of travellers and budgets. Although only half the size of Wales, Lebanon offers extraordinary diversity. Some of the world’s oldest human settlements, including the Phoenician ports of Tyre and Byblos – two of Lebanon’s five World Heritage sites – sit alongside modern Beirut. The absorbing capital is popular for its world-renowned cuisine, eclectic nightlife, mosaic of peoples and kaleidoscope of religions. In Lebanon's second city, Tripoli, busy medieval souks are watched over by a vast Crusader castle. Nearby, snow-capped mountains and the lush Qadisha Valley with its snaking river and waterfalls provide entertainment for skiers and hikers (the latter also well served by the Lebanon Mountain Trail, which runs virtually the length of the country). Three hundred days of sunshine per year makes Lebanon a ‘go anytime’ destination, with the Mediterranean coastline particularly drawing sun-seekers and watersports enthusiasts. Wildlife-lovers can enjoy Shouf Biosphere Reserve (with its famed cedar trees, the national emblem) and the Aammiq Wetlands, while Lebanon has become a major destination for religious tourism, and vinophiles can visit numerous Bekaa Valley wineries of international repute. Bradt's Lebanon offers detailed coverage of areas ignored by other guides, particularly the country’s south, as well as more extensive cultural and practical information. New for this edition are specialist features on aspects of Lebanese cultural life, additional background information, updates on work to rebuild Beirut following the 2020 explosion, extended and revised coverage of the Aammiq Wetlands, new and updated maps, and new visitor attractions including the MIM mineral museum and the Middle East’s first chocolate museum, both in Beirut. With a comprehensive language appendix covering both Arabic and French, detailed historical and religious background that helps visitors travel with awareness and sensitivity, and in-depth travel information, Bradt's Lebanon is an indispensable practical companion to visiting this excitingly varied country.

Download or read book Le Mal de Baal written by François Akel and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-05-07 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Middle Palaeolithic Geography of Southern France by : Katherine V. Boyle
Download or read book The Middle Palaeolithic Geography of Southern France written by Katherine V. Boyle and published by British Archaeological Reports Oxford Limited. This book was released on 1998 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this study is to highlight regularities in the Middle Palaeolithic settlement pattern observable in southern France bordering on the Mediterranean and southern Rhône valley. This period has traditionally been viewed as characterised by substantial lithic assemblage diversity. Discussion of this diversity, however, often ignores other, non-lithic variables: the topographic nature of the contexts of the lithic assemblages and the faunal data often found alongside stone tools. These form the primary basis of the present study. Two related databases form the backbone of the research, followed by an account of the prevailing environmental conditions at the time of the Middle Palaeolithic and a discussion of the available faunal data as a reflection of these environments. Although some environmental reflection can be observed, the faunal material that is available is a greater reflection of local taphonomic events than of prevailing regional ecological conditions, be these events nature- or human-related.
