This book was released on 2017-02-10T00:00:00-05:00 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Baseline Concept in Biodiversity Conservation by : Laurent Godet
Download or read book The Baseline Concept in Biodiversity Conservation written by Laurent Godet and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-09-20 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anthropocene era has been marked by such significant human pressure that it has led to the sixth mass extinction. The Baseline Concept in Biodiversity Conservation interprets human domination of the Earth as the process of gradual landscape change, the execution of which is neither linear nor homogeneous. This book is structured around three key questions: Where and when did everything go wrong? How do we define baseline states for biodiversity conservation strategies? How are reference states mobilized in a concrete way through case studies? Today, biodiversity conservation faces a dilemma that this book sheds light on: return to states less modified by humans than today but in a world that has changed significantly; or, let the nature of tomorrow express itself where it still can but without a road map.

Book Synopsis Politicization of Ecological Issues by : Gabrielle Bouleau
Download or read book Politicization of Ecological Issues written by Gabrielle Bouleau and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The legitimacy of environmental policies is an issue of increasing concern for analysts. Ecological stakes are deemed to be global, but global public decisions are rare and implemented with difficulty. Dissensus prevails on environmental ethics and there is little evidence of any greening of policy tools. The global framing of the environment fails to account for how people relate to the ecological realities which surround them. Rather than placing the environment at a distance, Politicization of Ecological Issues advocates for building legitimacy from people’s perceptions of singular forms and patterns in their environment. Based on scholarly literature in political ecology and empirical cases of water policy in Europe, the book shows how the qualification of environmental realities has been politicized and translated into motives for public action. Similarly, it argues that theoretical debates addressing the ecological crisis are not only dealing with ideas, but rather advocating for specific environmental forms that are deemed to be motives of hope or worry.
Book Synopsis Regulation Theory and Sustainable Development by : Corinne Gendron
Download or read book Regulation Theory and Sustainable Development written by Corinne Gendron and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that current economist theories do not take into account the socially constructed nature of the debate surrounding the environment and environmental policy. It examines whether proposed economic solutions to environmental policy are, in fact, viable in practice. The book demonstrates that social conflicts cause policy compromises, which shape the economic system of a post-industrial ecological society. The author offers an innovative socio-economic theory of environmental politics, which illuminates the transformation dynamics brought about by the ecological crisis. Regulation Theory and Sustainable Development will be of interest to students and scholars of environmental politics, policy and governance.
