La necesidad de prevenir la aparición de las DD del desarrollo en el periodo infantil y de mejorar la calidad de los recursos asistenciales y educativos conlleva un replanteamiento de las medidas que se han venido desarrollando, así como la naturaleza del conocimiento y praxis de cada una de las disciplinas que estudia y atiende al niño. La coordinación, la interdisciplinariedad, el trabajo con las familias, el avance de los planteamientos científicos, la generación de programas basados en la evidencia, las actuales exigencias sociales así como la aparición de nuevas morbilidades son cuestiones que comienzan a ser analizadas. En adición a estos temas, el mundo académico y formativo está experimentando un gran cambio, esperamos en aras de acomodarse tanto a los nuevos planteamientos científicos como a las necesidades sociales. En este contexto, la mejora de la formación se convierte en una importante medida de cara a la creación de recursos interdisciplinares que aborden de forma global las necesidades del niño con deficiencia y discapacidad y su familia. El objeto de esta investigación es analizar la formación de los profesionales que trabajan en el campo de la primera infancia en la Comunidad de Madrid, centrando el análisis en la diversidad de itinerarios formativos y perfiles profesionales que facultan para el trabajo con niños con DD en su desarrollo. Los resultados del análisis contribuyen a conocer el estado de la formación de los profesionales en sus diferentes vertientes: la formación inicial recibida en el campo de las DD de la infancia, la formación continua durante el ejercicio profesional, el nivel de coordinación entre los diferentes servicios que atienden a la primera infancia y las DD del desarrollo, la existencia de una metodología multidisciplinar de trabajo y la demanda específica de formación expresada por los profesionales encuestados.
