Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The Handbook of Global Interventions in Communication Theory by : Yoshitaka Miike
Download or read book The Handbook of Global Interventions in Communication Theory written by Yoshitaka Miike and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-11 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moving beyond the U.S.-Eurocentric paradigm of communication theory, this handbook broadens the intellectual horizons of the discipline by highlighting underrepresented, especially non-Western, theorists and theories, and identifies key issues and challenges for future scholarship. Showcasing diverse perspectives, the handbook facilitates active engagement in different cultural traditions and theoretical orientations that are global in scope but local in effect. It begins by exploring past efforts to diversify the field, continuing on to examine theoretical concepts, models, and principles rooted in local cumulative wisdom. It does not limit itself to the mass-interpersonal communication divide, but rather seeks to frame theory as global and inclusive in scope. The book is intended for communication researchers and advanced students, with relevance to scholars with an interest in theory within information science, library science, social and cross-cultural psychology, multicultural education, social justice and social ethics, international relations, development studies, and political science.

Book Synopsis Realities and Relationships by : Kenneth J. Gergen
Download or read book Realities and Relationships written by Kenneth J. Gergen and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent attempts to challenge the primacy of reason--and its realization in foundationalist accounts of knowledge and cognitive formulations of human action--have focused on processes of discourse. Drawing from social and literary accounts of discourse, Kenneth Gergen considers these challenges to empiricism under the banner of "social construction." His aim is to outline the major elements of a social constructionist perspective, to illustrate its potential, and to initiate debate on the future of constructionist pursuits in the human sciences generally and psychology in particular.
Book Synopsis Prostitution and Feminism by : Maggie O'Neill
Download or read book Prostitution and Feminism written by Maggie O'Neill and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-06-25 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feminists have long differed in their view of prostitution. While some regard it as a classic form of exploitation and degradation, others offer a more sympathetic interpretation of women's involvement in the sex industry. In this important new book, Maggie O'Neill seeks to explore the theoretical debates on prostitution and the relevance of these to the everyday lived experiences of women working on the streets. Based upon her own ethnographic research - defined as ethno-mimesis - the author seeks to undermine and demystify stereotypical images of prostitutes. She explores the narratives offered by prostitutes themselves, as well as other forms of their representation in film, art and photography, and shows how these various mediums may be used to shed light on the socio-economic processes and structures which lead women into prostitution. These personal accounts produce what O'Neill refers to as 'a politics of feeling', which, she argues, may be used to transform attitudes, policy and practice in relation to female prostitution. By relating these individual experiences to critical feminist theory, the book deepens our understanding of the phenomenon of prostitution in contemporary society. The book will be of particular interest to students and scholars in gender studies, feminist theory and sociology.
Book Synopsis Medios de comunicación, sociedad y educación by : Tomás Fernández García
Download or read book Medios de comunicación, sociedad y educación written by Tomás Fernández García and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 2001 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
