Book Synopsis Sartre, Jews, and the Other by : Manuela Consonni
Download or read book Sartre, Jews, and the Other written by Manuela Consonni and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-02-24 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The starting point for this compilation is the wish to rethink the concept of antisemitism, race and gender in light of Sartre’s pioneering Réflexions sur la Question Juive seventy years after its publication. The book gathers texts by prestigious scholars from different disciplines in the Humanities and the Social Sciences, with the objective or revisiting this work locating it within the setting of two other pioneering – and we argue, related – publications, namely Simone De Beauvoir’s Le deuxième sexe of 1949 and Franz Fanon’s Peau noire et masques blancs of 1952. This particular and original standpoint sheds new light on the different meanings and political functions of the concept of antisemitism in a political and historical context marked by the post-modern concepts of multi-ethnicity and multiculturalism.

Book Synopsis Germanofilia.
Download or read book Germanofilia. Origen, estado de la cuestión y perspectivas written by Luis Alberto Lugo Amador and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-11-28 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2014-01-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis What Is Philosophy? by : Gilles Deleuze
Download or read book What Is Philosophy? written by Gilles Deleuze and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 1996-05-23 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Called by many France's foremost philosopher, Gilles Deleuze is one of the leading thinkers in the Western World. His acclaimed works and celebrated collaborations with Félix Guattari have established him as a seminal figure in the fields of literary criticism and philosophy. The long-awaited publication of What Is Philosophy? in English marks the culmination of Deleuze's career. Deleuze and Guattari differentiate between philosophy, science, and the arts, seeing as means of confronting chaos, and challenge the common view that philosophy is an extension of logic. The authors also discuss the similarities and distinctions between creative and philosophical writing. Fresh anecdotes from the history of philosophy illuminate the book, along with engaging discussions of composers, painters, writers, and architects. A milestone in Deleuze's collaboration with Guattari, What Is Philosophy? brings a new perspective to Deleuze's studies of cinema, painting, and music, while setting a brilliant capstone upon his work.

Book Synopsis La Tierra no nos pertenece by : Yves Zarka
Download or read book La Tierra no nos pertenece written by Yves Zarka and published by NED Ediciones. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Symposio Internacional and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 2003 with total page 902 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Perspectives on Contemporary Literature by : David Hershberg
Download or read book Perspectives on Contemporary Literature written by David Hershberg and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all parts of the world and in every age, many of the greatest works of literature have been shaped or inspired by the swirl of historical events. The wars, holocausts, and mushroom clouds of our own era haunt the pages of many twentieth-century writers; events of the past, even the remote past, also inspire many authors, though their work is contemporary in every way. And if we agree with the poet Czeslaw Milosz that "historicity may reveal itself in a detail of architecture, in the shaping of a landscape," we come to recognize that our understanding of a given poem or novel can often be deepened by a reading from this point of view. The essayists in Literature and the Historical Process explore the ways in which history and literature are intertwined in the works of a number of twentieth-century writers. These probing critical readings from the historical point of view not only enlighten us about the works under consideration but, especially when taken together, enrich our understanding of the literary impulse itself. In "Nature, History, and Art in Elizabeth Bishop's 'Brazil, January 1, 1502,'" for example, Barbara Page shows how Bishop "used and rearranged" knowledge derived from her study of Brazil's history. Page's somewhat feminist reading may surprise those who find Bishop's poetic persona hard to identify. Among the other authors considered are Jorge Luis Borges, Michel de Ghelderode, Elizabeth Bowen, Rose Macauley, Anthony Burgess, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Cesare Pavese, and Czeslaw Milosz.
Book Synopsis 'Rule of Reason': Ensayos Teóricos sobre Racionalidad y Razonabilidad en el Derecho Público by : Riccardo Perona

This book was released on 2018-11-05 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigating the principle of reasona-bleness in the legal world requires—if the task is to be taken seriously—to take a journey directly to the roots of the concept of law and to the ultimate paradigms that inform its knowledge, just to find the beginning of a different and maybe harder path, heading to the idea of reason. The essays presented in this book do not aim to complete such journeys, but just to take some modest steps into them. Many con-cepts are thereby found, many more are left to be investigated. Meanwhile, between rationality and reasonableness, theory and practice, science and prudence, episteme and phronesis, a global need emerges: that to keep addressing the core of the ‘Rule of Reason’ in the law.
Book Synopsis Escribir la catalanidad by : Stewart King
Download or read book Escribir la catalanidad written by Stewart King and published by Tamesis Books. This book was released on 2005 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the interaction of language, culture and identity in contemporary Catalonia and rejects the exclusion of Castilian as a language capable of expressing 'Catalan-ness'. This study, charting the construction of a Catalan identity from the nineteenth-century cultural renaissance until the present day, explores the interaction of language, culture and identity in contemporary Catalonia. Drawing on postcolonial and multicultural literary theories, it argues that Castilian- and Catalan-language narratives are expressions of the same culture. Through detailed analyses of texts by Terenci Moix, Francisco Candel, Ignasi Riera, Montserrat Roig, Juan Marsé, Ramon Pallicé, and Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, among others, the author demonstrates that such writers share similar preoccupations and points of view and also engage in a complex literary and cultural dialogue that cuts across the established linguistic divisions that characterise cultural politics in Catalonia. The Catalan literary establishment's exclusion of Castilian as a language capable of expressing 'Catalan-ness' ischallenged and the author proposes redefining traditional understandings of Catalan literature to take into account texts produced by all members of Catalan society. Stewart King is a lecturer in Hispanic Studies at Monash University, Australia.
