Book excerpt: La presente tesis doctoral que lleva por título "Trayectorias laborales y redes personales: un análisis longitudinal en la población joven" tiene como objetivo principal el estudio de las trayectorias laborales de los jóvenes y sus redes sociales, entendidas como un recurso para la inserción o mejora en el mercado de trabajo. Lo que se trata de examinar es la relación entre la estructura y composición de las redes personales, el apoyo social obtenido de estas redes y su interrelación con la trayectoria desarrollada en el mercado de trabajo. La investigación se centra en jóvenes de 20 a 34 años en el contexto del Área Metropolitana de Barcelona. La presente investigación se enmarca dentro del debate actual en las sociedades occidentales sobre las trayectorias vitales, caracterizadas por una mayor variedad y pluralidad, y por la erosión de unos patrones estandarizados en pro de itinerarios biográficos más diversos e individualizados. En el contexto español, son varios los estudios sobre la ocupación juvenil que hace tiempo que están poniendo sobre la mesa la idea de desestandarización y el aumento de la complejidad y la diversidad para referirse a las trayectorias juveniles. Consecuentemente, el marco teórico planteado tiene como base, por un lado, la perspectiva del curso de vida (life course perspective), que permite captar y analizar este escenario tan complejo e individualizado y, por otra, la perspectiva teórico-metodológica de las redes sociales. Estas dos perspectivas nos ofrecen el marco conceptual y metodológico para abordar los tres objetivos principales alrededor de los cuales se estructura la tesis: 1) analizar cómo son las trayectorias laborales de los jóvenes, haciendo especial énfasis en el peso del origen social y familiar, 2) Examinar cómo es el capital social disponible en función del origen social y 3) Examinar cómo es el capital social disponible en función de la trayectoria laboral desarrollada. Finalmente, en relación con los objetivos 2) y 3), la tesis aspira a comparar el impacto diferenciado que la trayectoria laboral desarrollada y el origen social tienen en las características de la red personal. Además de los objetivos de carácter sustantivo, la presente tesis doctoral, se plantea un conjunto de objetivos de carácter metodológico. En primer lugar, se plantea un método para obtener información rica y detallada en relación con las trayectorias laborales juveniles, especialmente contemplando el modo en que se articulan y superponen actividades principales y secundarias. En segundo lugar, aspira a avanzar en el uso de metodologías específicas para el análisis longitudinal de las trayectorias laborales. Además, el objeto de estudio planteado vincula temáticas diversas como las trayectorias laborales, la posición de los individuos en la estructura social o las redes sociales, que habitualmente se han trabajado de forma independiente. El reto metodológico consiste en analizar estas dimensiones de manera conjunta e interrelacionada.
