Book excerpt: Depuis l'effondrement du système soviétique en 1991, la Fédération de Russie est engagée dans un processus de transformation de son droit. Une des principales priorités des autorités russes pour mener à bien cette tâche réside dans l'édification d'une nouvelle codification. Le remplacement des codes soviétiques et la volonté de refondre la législation expliquent le choix des autorités russes. Après une mise en valeur de la dimension historique, la présente étude saisit les caractéristiques techniques du processus codificateur contemporain. Le code n'est pas seulement étudié en lui-même, mais également dans sa phase d'élaboration et dans son évolution (entrée en vigueur, modifications et compléments, interprétations jurisprudentielles...). Les étapes suivantes démontrent que la codification sert à la promotion de la stabilité législative et participe surtout à la construction d'une nouvelle conception du droit. En outre, elle bénéficie d'une véritable réception dans le système juridique (de la part des organes judiciaires, de la part de la doctrine...) et devient progressivement une référence incontournable, tant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur de la Russie, en particulier dans les pays de la CEI.
