Book Synopsis The Chemical Dynamics and Kinetics of Small Radicals by : Kopin Liu
Download or read book The Chemical Dynamics and Kinetics of Small Radicals written by Kopin Liu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights recent progress in the chemistry of radicals. Developments include the growing use of lasers to generate radicals, the application of lasers to provide state, angular, polarization, energy and real-time resolution in kinetics and dynamics experiments, the development of theories for handling the reactions of radicals, and the simulation of the reaction dynamics of increasingly larger systems for direct comparison to experimental results. The book emphasizes the increasing interaction between experimental dynamics, kinetics and theory. It is appropriate for chemistry graduate students and researchers about to enter the field. However, the discussions of some topics progress to a more advanced level so that even an expert will find the book useful.

Book Synopsis Kinetic Study of Free Radical-radical Reactions of Combustion Importance at Elevated Pressures by : Chao Yan
Download or read book Kinetic Study of Free Radical-radical Reactions of Combustion Importance at Elevated Pressures written by Chao Yan and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The kinetics of several free radical-radical reactions was studied using pulsed laser photolysis coupled to transient UV-vis absorption spectroscopy over the 292 – 714 K temperature range and the 1- 100 bar pressure range. Free radicals such as CH3, OH and Cl are generated by photodissociation of parent molecules; some other radicals such as CH3O2 and HO2 are generated in secondary reactions following the initial photodissociation. Different free radicals are monitored at different wavelengths depending on their UV absorption spectra. Quantitative measurements of the concentrations of free radicals relay upon the absolute intensity of photolysis laser light determined by well characterized in situ actinometry. Experimental temporal absorption profiles are fitted by numerical solutions of a system of differential equations (ODE) which correspond to the reaction mechanism.
Book Synopsis Chemistry of the Upper and Lower Atmosphere by : Barbara J. Finlayson-Pitts
Download or read book Chemistry of the Upper and Lower Atmosphere written by Barbara J. Finlayson-Pitts and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-11-17 with total page 993 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is the most comprehensive and up-to-date treatment of one of the hottest areas of chemical research. The treatment of fundamental kinetics and photochemistry will be highly useful to chemistry students and their instructors at the graduate level, as well as postdoctoral fellows entering this new, exciting, and well-funded field with a Ph.D. in a related discipline (e.g., analytical, organic, or physical chemistry, chemical physics, etc.). Chemistry of the Upper and Lower Atmosphere provides postgraduate researchers and teachers with a uniquely detailed, comprehensive, and authoritative resource. The text bridges the "gap" between the fundamental chemistry of the earth's atmosphere and "real world" examples of its application to the development of sound scientific risk assessments and associated risk management control strategies for both tropospheric and stratospheric pollutants. Serves as a graduate textbook and "must have" reference for all atmospheric scientists Provides more than 5000 references to the literature through the end of 1998 Presents tables of new actinic flux data for the troposphere and stratospher (0-40km) Summarizes kinetic and photochemical date for the troposphere and stratosphere Features problems at the end of most chapters to enhance the book's use in teaching Includes applications of the OZIPR box model with comprehensive chemistry for student use

Book Synopsis Laboratory Studies of Free Radical Reactions in Cloudwater by :
Download or read book Laboratory Studies of Free Radical Reactions in Cloudwater written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactions in cloudwater can be important pathways for chemical transformation of atmospheric trace gases because of high solubility of reagent gases, rapid aqueous-phase kinetics, and large thermodynamic driving force. A key cloudwater reaction is oxidized of dissolved SO2 and H2O2. It is thus important to understand processes controlling H2O2 formation in the atmosphere by gas- and aqueous-phase reactions of HO2 free radicals. A concern with models of free radical chemistry in cloudwater is that of the applicability of present chemical kinetic schemes to such complex milieus. This concern arises because, at the low free-radical concentrations expected for cloudwater, reactions of radicals with trace impurities are favored over radical-radical reactions, which dominate at high radical concentrations commonly employed in laboratory investigations. We report initial results of a study in which the rate of change in H2O2 concentration is monitored in synthetic and authentic cloudwater in which HO2 radicals are produced by 6°Co? radiolysis at rates comparable to those expected upon transfer of HO2 from interstitial cloud air to cloudwater. These results indicate that micromolar concentrations of Fe(III) decrease H2O2 yields and can even lead to H2O2 loss rather than formation. Implications on cloud chemistry will be discussed. 14 refs., 2 figs.
