"If you wanted more to happen in the first book then you should be disturbingly elated by the end of this one. A few things happen that may haunt my imagination forever and there is a small surprise at the end that may change the direction of this story, and Kellie may be forced to grow up even faster than ever..." - Allen, Amazon review It's been almost a year since it all began, and Kellie has managed to survive against all odds. Kellie has just turned 10 and she is still alive, telling her diary "Barbie" everything she encounters. She's grown more resourceful in her time alone, and has learned to live with the dangers around her. Kellie has run low on resources, and now she is finally ready to seek out the rest of her family... if they're still alive. Along the way, she runs into many dangers - some are expected, while others are beyond anything she's ever experienced... even in her worst nightmares. (Intended for mature readers; references to disturbing events.)

"Surrealistic and haunting, this story gets under the skin like a virulent infection... She must learn to survive based on her own wits, and she will also learn which instincts she should trust... all the while telling "Barbie" what is going on and what she's thinking. "Be prepared... it is quite sad seeing all the death and destruction through a child's eyes, but I'm telling you it is worth it in the end." - Blood, Sweat & Books "This book actually handles the genre in exactly the right way... The writers obviously didn't think, 'How can I make my zombies special?' Instead, they asked, 'What's an interesting story I can tell within the context of a zombie apocalypse?' That, in my opinion, is the best route a writer can take... Telling the story of a zombie apocalypse through the eyes of a child is a fun approach and is handled wonderfully." - Brandon Hale, Author of "Day Soldiers"

Book excerpt: Half a million Australians encountered a new world when they entered Asia and the Pacific during World War II: different peoples, cultures, languages and religions chafing under the grip of colonial rule. Moving beyond the battlefield, this book tells the story of how mid-century experiences of troops in Asia-Pacific shaped how we feel about our nation’s place in the region and the world. Spanning the vast region from New Guinea to Southeast Asia and India, Lachlan Grant uncovers affecting tales of friendship, grief, spiritual awakening, rebellion, incarceration, sex and souvenir hunting. Focusing on the day-to-day interactions between soldiers on the ground and the people and cultures they encountered, this book paints a picture not only of individual lives transformed, but of dramatically shifting national perceptions, as the gaze of Australia turned from Britain to Asia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This was originally a two volume set which is now bound as one. Here is presented an investigation of the nature of the earliest extant records of the supposed communication with angels and spirits of John Dee (1527-1608) with the assistance of his two mediums or 'scryers', Barnabas Saul and Edward Kelly. Volume 2 of this work is a transcription of the records in Dee's hand contained in Sloane MS 3188, which has been transcribed only once before, by Elias Ashmole in 1672. Volume 1 is an introduction and thorough commentary to the text which is primarily explaining its many obscurities. The author describes the physical state of the manuscript and its history then continues with a biography of Dee and his scryers and some background to Renaissance occult philosophy. Further chapters address the arguments that the manuscript represents a conscious fraud or a cryptographical exercise and describe the magical system and instruments evolved during the communications or 'Actions'. The last, fascinating chapter examines Dee's motives for believing so strongly in the truth of the Actions and suggests that a principal motive was the conviction, not held by Dee alone, that a new age was about to dawn upon earth.

Book excerpt: Read the hilarious, candid (and sometimes not-so-nice), diaries of Jamie Kelly, who promises that everything in her diary is true -- or at least as true as it needs to be.They were just a soft, ordinary pair of thrift-shop jeans until Jamie Kelly tried them on . . . Then they became a tight, scratchy, slightly smelly, and utterly ordinary pair of thrift-shop jeans with an embarrassing haunting problem. Do the pants have the power to soothe a vengeful beagle, vanquish The Prettiest Girl in the World, or make the wearer irresistible to the eighth cutest guy in the grade? Are the haunted pants so dazzling they can hurt and maybe permanently damage the eyes of onlookers? Or are the haunted pants just, well, haunted (which is kind of gross when you think about it)?

Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking biography, based on more than 10,000 hitherto unavailable letters and diary entries, Niall Ferguson returns to his roots as a financial historian to tell the story of the extraordinary Siegmund Warburg. A refugee from Hitler's Germany, Warburg rose to become the dominant figure in the post-war City of London and one of the architects of European financial integration. Seared by events in the 1930s, when the long-established Warburg bank was first almost destroyed by the Depression and then 'Aryanized' by the Nazis, Warburg was determined that his own bank would learn from the past and contribute to the economic recovery of Britain, the unity of Western Europe and the birth of globalization. Siegmund Warburg was a complex and ambivalent man, as much a psychologist, politician and actor-manager as a banker. In High Financier Niall Ferguson reveals Warburg's idiosyncracies but above all he recaptures the meticulous business methods and strict ethical code that set Warburg apart from the mere speculators and traders who inhabit today's financial world.
