Book excerpt: Energy Keepers Energy Killers: The New Civil Right Battle exposes the wrongs done to the poor and minorities by environmental and political elites trying to eradicate fossil fuel production - coal, oil, and gas - supposedly to 'save the world from global warming.' Author Roy Innis, national chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality, shows how their wrongheaded policies price energy out of reach and violate the civil rights of all Americans, but hurt the poor and minorities worst. Innis demands an end to this 'energy racism' and calls for the opening of all federal lands - which belong to the disadvantaged as much as to well-funded environmental leaders - to more energy production in a sustained campaign to increase supply and lower prices. Innis reveals the flaws in global warming hysteria and makes the stunning fact clear in his 'Energy Reality' chart that so-called 'alternative energy' from wind and solar power actually provided less than one-half of one percent of America's energy needs in 2006.

Book excerpt: For the five teens who modeled as Disney Hologram Imaging hosts, life is beginning to settle down when an intriguing video arrives to Philby's computer at school. It's a call for action: the Overtakers, a group of Disney villains, seem to be plotting to attempt a rescue of two of their leaders, both of whom the Disney Imagineers have hidden away somewhere following a violent encounter in Epcot. A staged attack by new Overtakers at Downtown Disney, startles the group. One of their own, Charlene, is acting strange of late. Has she tired of her role as a Kingdom Keeper or is there something more sinister at play? When caught sneaking into Epcot as her DHI, acting strictly against the group's rules, Finn and Philby take action. Has the "impossible" occurred? Have the Overtakers created their own holograms? Have they found a way to "jump" from the Virtual Maintenance Network onto the Internet, and if so, what does that mean for the safety of the parks, and the spread and reach of the Overtakers? Are they recruiting an army from outside the parks? A dark cloud in the Kingdom Keeper era is unfolding, and with dissention in their own ranks, it's unclear if there's any chance of escape.

Book excerpt: The owner of a Nebulan Cluster shipping company finds that his family's future will be inescapably intertwined with an ancient artifact. This relic, rumored to hold the key to unfathomable power, is sought by any who lust for power. His grandson, Tobius Stryker, is the one who will have to weather the storm this item has wrought over the past millennium, but little did he realize what it truly is. The relic carries Tobius down a path of mourning, anger, and self-discovery as he tries to unravel the mysteries that his family has found. This path pushes him into the unseen culture of the Keepers of Power, a reclusive cult of flow walkers. This group keeps a natural view of the flow, believing that it has three purposes--the pursuit of wealth, knowledge, or justice--and they use their power to help strengthen the flow by the pursuit of one of these focuses. These pursuits are determined through tests, and Tobius finds himself to be the first seeker of justice in a thousand years. Finding himself to be the predecessor to the nightmare the Keepers dare not speak about, he discovers the plot of an entity set on galactic destruction. Having to rely on his own instincts as well as the friends, he finds on the way. Tobius must not only find peace with his life but also save the galaxy from the ghost of the Keepers' secret past.

Book excerpt: EVERY WOMAN IS BORN WITH POWER! We live in the age of low-rise jeans, belly-button rings, and backless shirts. Many girls and young women today could not even define the word modesty, let alone tell you how to live it out. Teen girls often ask: Why can't I wear what everyone else is wearing? My parents are hung up on their old sense of fashion. Times have changed, why can't I? Isn't is really the guy's problem if he is tempted? In a fresh and trusted voice, Dannah Gresh has a new message for them: modesty itself is a delicate yet formidable power. In Secret Keeper, she teaches that modesty not only issues a challenge for one man to romantically earn your virtue, but it also expresses your love for and obedience to God. Includes The "Truth or Bare" Fashion Tests and Fashion Challenges that will resonate with a teen girl.

His new classmates tell him that weird, unexplainable things have happened through the years to kids who have been in the house his parents just bought. Some got rich. Some got lucky. But some - like six-year-old Jack Everett who lived in the house in 1944 - disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again. Rumor was, it all had to do with some powerful stones hidden somewhere deep inside the house. It's not long before Teddy and his sisters, Emmy and Gracie, discover the powerful stones and begin using them against their parents, classmates, teachers and each other. It's all fun and games until the stones are stolen into a dark, menacing future world, and the Stone Keepers - a club of those given powers by the stones over the last hundred years - show up to demand some answers. Can Teddy steal back the stones before everyone's power is lost? Or will he remain forever trapped in time?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wakuenai of the upper Rio Negro region in southern Venezuela a form of singing called malikai for ceremonies of childbirth, initiation, and healing. This ritual chanting, a rich amalgam of myth and music, serves as a means of integrating individuals into a vertical hierarchy of powers relations between mythic ancestors and human descendants. In Keepers of the Sacred Chants, Jonathan Hill shows how the musical and semantic transformations of everyday discourse in malikai integrate the everyday world into a poetic process of empowerment. He interprets malikai through mythic narratives that explain the cosmos as an ongoing process of musically naming-into-being the species, objects, and activities that define individual humanness and society, and he further shows how semantic and musical meanings are joined to construct each chant and how these chants are manipulated in different contexts. Hill explains how the musical elements of malikai contribute to the success of performance, comparing different genres for which different musical criteria are appropriate. He considers the integration of speech and song through a close analysis of such elements as microtonal pitch rise, rhythm, and timbre, showing how these features are linked to poetic speech and imbued with social power. Hill's penetrating study of malikai is made within the context of Wakuenai history and cosmology and considers influences resulting from contact with the outside world. Because Northern Arawakan-speaking peoples have received less attention than others of the region, his book thus makes a significant contribution to Amazonian ethnography. It is the author's focus on malikai, however, that commends keepers of theSacred Chants to all interested in the multitextured uses of song and story by peoples of the world.

The Overtakers have infiltrated the cast and crew. And no oneknows what they have planned. The Dream sets sail filled with enthusiastic guests and crew. But not for long. Maleficent takes over a video screen and warns the guests of trouble to come. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “beautifully written” Pulitzer Prize–winning novel about prejudice and a distinguished family’s secrets in the American South (The Atlantic Monthly). Seven generations of the Howland family have lived in the Alabama plantation home built by an ancestor who fought for Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812. Over the course of a century, the Howlands accumulated a fortune, fought for secession, and helped rebuild the South, establishing themselves as one of the most respected families in the state. But that history means little to Abigail Howland. The inheritor of the Howland manse, Abigail hides the long-buried secret of her grandfather’s thirty-year relationship with his African American mistress. Her fortunes reverse when her family’s mixed-race heritage comes to light and her community—locked in the prejudices of the 1960s—turns its back on her. Faced with such deep-seated racism, Abigail is pushed to defend her family at all costs. A “novel of real magnitude,” The Keepers of the House is an unforgettable story of family, tradition, and racial injustice set against the richly drawn backdrop of the American South (Kirkus Reviews). This ebook features an illustrated biography of Shirley Ann Grau, including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.
