Book excerpt: The Lil' Green Book of Karting came about from my need to understand how to effectively set up a Kart chassis (either a rear brake only or front and rear brake shifter chassis). Being new to the sport, the need for understanding both these types of chassis led to extensive research. Information sources ranged from anecdotal information to academic papers that describe vehicle tire-grip performance under load. My background in physics and reliability maintenance helped me understand Kart performance theory, and I wanted to share this understanding with other Karters. For newcomers to Karting, the book introduces the important center of gravity (CG) concept to help them understand how things work. The need for this understanding was driven by the lack of consistent and consolidated information "out there." Newcomers to Karting don't have the language to form the questions they need to ask, and the book provides all the knowledge they'll need to understand how to make their Karts perform better. For young Kart drivers (and mechanics), the book develops Karting concepts in sufficient detail to help relate both driver and chassis analysis/setup to on-track performance if datalogger data analysis is available. With better understanding, young drivers can accelerate their skill development and experience better competition. Karting can be tremendously social for folks participating in the sport, and it can also be a pathway to a career in motorsports. Either way, knowledge helps make the experience more enjoyable instead of struggling with understanding and discouraging results. Happy Karting!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I'll sue you!" In this litigious society, everyone needs to know a few basics to avoid being snowed, cowed and generally abused. Even those who can afford to hire lawyers need to know what they are up to. When a conflict arises, what are the main doctrines of law that give one side an advantage? What do they mean, and how do they apply? When you can see through the jargon, the intimidation factor loses its power and you can concentrate on real issues - and use these tools to take care of yourself. Some of America's doctrines go back to the 17th-century English Bench and have had a lasting impact on our legal system. Other doctrines are of more recent vintage but have had an equally profound influence. The author has researched 1000 legal cases and identified 326 different doctrines of law; of those, he has selected 25 doctrines that average Americans are most likely to encounter in their everyday activities. In these pages he reviews actual cases to show how the doctrines apply in real-life scenarios and relates what happened in court. These non-jargon explanations provide handy background reading for fans of court-room dramas and, since any one of us may end up in court these days, important general education for every adult in the United States. 1. Book excerpt: A Practical Guide to Race Car Data Analysis was written for the amateur and lower-level professional racers who either have a data system in their cars or who may be thinking about installing one but who do not have access to an experienced data engineer. Many of the data systems available today at reasonable prices offer capabilities that only professional race teams could afford just a few years ago. Unfortunately, most of these racers do not know how to use more than a small part of those capabilities. Using real track data, numerous real-world examples, and more than 200 illustrations, the Guide gives them the knowledge and skills they need to select, configure and use their data systems efficiently and effectively.Beginning with a detailed discussion of the things racers need to know about the hardware and software necessary for a an effective data system, the Guide continues with chapters on basic data analysis tools, more sophisticated data analysis tools like x-y plots and math channels, damper potentiometers and the wealth of important data they produce, brake and clutch pressure sensors, and creative use of math channels. The Guide concludes with a comprehensive scheme for analyzing data, examples of the data views used with the scheme, and detailed information on how to create and configure the data views.
