Die Gruppe der unter 16-jahrigen ist mit 117.008 Asylantragen sehr gross. Bei den unbegleiteten minderjahrigen Fluchtlingen gibt es in den letzten zwei Jahren keine genauen Zahlen mehr. 2013 belief sich ihre Zahl auf 2.486, davon kamen 690 aus Afghanistan, 355 aus Somalia und 285 aus Syrien. Schatzungen zufolge kamen im Jahr 2015 zwischen 30.000 und 60.000 unbegleitete minderjahrige Fluchtlinge nach Deutschland. Der Grossteil stammt aus Afghanistan, dicht gefolgt von Syrien. Das Thema unbegleitete minderjahrige Fluchtlinge geht immer etwas unter in der taglichen Berichterstattung. Es wird viel uber Fluchtlinge im Allgemeinen diskutiert, ob man Obergrenzen einfuhren sollte, oder wie man die Integration im Angesicht der hohen Zahlen uberhaupt bewaltigen kann. Dass unbegleitete minderjahrige Fluchtlinge meistens aussen vorgelassen werden, zeigt sich schon daran dass es keine genauen Zahlen gibt. Am Beispiel des 16-Jahrigen Reyes aus Bangladesch lasst sich sehen wie es den Jugendlichen oft in ihren Heimatlandern ergeht. Reyes erzahlt: die Familie hatte beschlossen, wenigstens den Sohn des Hauses in Sicherheit zu bringen." Mein Vater war in der falschen Partei." Erst spater erwahnt er fast nebenbei; dass der Vater und andere mannliche Verwandte aufgrund ihres politischen Engagements ermordet worden seien. Diese und ahnliche Geschichten begegnen Leuten taglich, wenn sie mit unbegleiteten minderjahrigen Fluchtlingen zu tun haben. Was sie wirklich bewegt kommt selten zur Sprache. Immer wachsam aus Angst, Angehorige und Helfer zu gefahrden und vor dem deutschen restriktiven Auslandergesetz, aber auch um die Erinnerung an die korperlichen wie die seelischen Verletzungen nicht wieder aufstei"
