Book excerpt: This book is a unique study of how the role of ‘the messenger’ has changed throughout history, starting from ancient times and ending with the person’s role today. The chapters include an analysis of the personal characteristics required by a messenger, the dangers they often have to face, especially in troubled times, and how they have the power to change the course of history because of their functions. The book analyses various types of messengers who were, and are still, significant, and ends by looking at how the role will continue to develop and change, taking technological advances into account. The book, in short, is unusual, captivating and will be of interest to an informed general readership and academics of various disciplines. Of particular interest will be the analysis the book provides of the messengers we send into space in search of life, and the potential messengers who will visit our planet in the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates that people writing and creating characters almost 6,000 miles apart, and in different centuries, have a lot more in common than one might expect. It examines the day-to-day themes appearing in two epics, The Ramayanam and The Maha Bharatham, and some of Shakespeare’s plays (without entering into the realm of philosophy). The book reveals that whatever backgrounds people may have, they ultimately tend to tackle life in very similar ways, and this claim is substantiated with many pertinent examples. The perspectives presented in this book will be of interest to all who study literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Received a special citation from The de la Torre Bueno© First Book Award Committee of the Dance Studies Association (2020). The book has been hailed as "an invaluable addition to the scholarship on Bharatanatyam." Celluloid Classicism provides a rich and detailed history of two important modern South Indian cultural forms: Tamil Cinema and Bharatanatyam dance. It addresses representations of dance in the cinema from an interdisciplinary, critical-historical perspective. The intertwined and symbiotic histories of these forms have never received serious scholarly attention. For the most part, historians of South Indian cinema have noted the presence of song and dance sequences in films, but have not historicized them with reference to the simultaneous revival of dance culture among the middle-class in this region. In a parallel manner, historians of dance have excluded deliberations on the influence of cinema in the making of the "classical" forms of modern India. Although the book primarily focuses on the period between the late 1920s and 1950s, it also addresses the persistence of these mid-twentieth century cultural developments into the present. The book rethinks the history of Bharatanatyam in the twentieth century from an interdisciplinary, transmedia standpoint and features 130 archival images.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's 1992. In a small town in Fife, a girl is busting to get out into the world and see what's on offer. And an ad in the local paper declares: Band Seeks Singer. Grunge has just gone global, scruffy indie kids are inheriting the earth, and a schoolgirl from Glenrothes is catapulted to a rock star lifestyle as the singer in a hot new indie band. Touring with Radiohead, partying with Blur, she was living the dream. Until she wasn't. What Girls Are Made Of is the true story of Bissett's teenage years, based on her meticulously detailed, pull-no-punches diaries, which she found after the death of her father. It's a rollercoaster journey from the girl she was to the woman she wanted to be: rocketed into teenage stardom, suddenly dropped by their manager, and then the following of years of becoming an actor, writer and director. Described by Miro Magazine as "a glorious mixture of harrowing and life-affirming messages", the script also includes a play list of female-led soundtracks, that were played in the production.
