Download or read book Siete y Siete written by Oscar David Matallana Uribe and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-01-18 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Nothing is certain. "Seven and Seven: Love in the time of Covid" are seven and seven poems. Something that started as an ode to love finishes with verses full of pain. Trapped in dreams of eternal love, we keep an illusion that shields us from seeing the end of our romantic relationships. However, love and pain form a unity, like life and death. We are hurt by the people we love, and we bear their scars, scars which shape us. But those scars show us that we live, and the grief allows words to bloom that deeply touch us. Oscar David Matallana Uribe, El Matallana, tells us about the capriciousness of life, with all its truth, beauty and disappointments. He shows us a perspective of love that is both moving and poetic. The poems are written in Spanish, English and German.

Book Synopsis Restructuring Patriarchy by : Susan K. Besse
Download or read book Restructuring Patriarchy written by Susan K. Besse and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Susan K. Besse broadens our understanding of the political by establishing the relevance of gender for the construction of state hegemony in Brazil after World War I. Restructuring Patriarchy demonstrates that the consolidation and legitimization of power by President Getulio Vargas's Estado Novo depended to a large extent on the reorganization of social relations in the private sphere. New expectations and patterns of behavior for women emerged in postwar Brazil from heated debates between men and women, housewives and career women, feminists and antifeminists, reformist professionals and conservative clerics, and industrialists and bureaucrats. But as urban middle- and upper-class women challenged patriarchal authority at home and assumed new roles in public, prominent intellectuals, professionals, and politicians defined and imposed new 'hygienic,' rational, and scientific gender norms. Thus, modernization of the gender system within Brazil's rising urban-industrial society accommodated new necessities and opportunities for women without fundamentally changing the gender inequality that underlay the larger structure of social inequality in Brazil.

Book Synopsis Portuguese Literature and the Environment by : Victor K. Mendes
Download or read book Portuguese Literature and the Environment written by Victor K. Mendes and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-06-03 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Portuguese Literature and the Environment explores the relationship between Portuguese literature and the environment from Medieval times to the present. From the centrality of nature in Medieval poetry, through the bucolic verse of the Renaissance, all the way to the Romantic and post-Romantic nostalgia for a pristine natural or rural landscape under threat in the wake of industrialization, Portuguese literature has frequently reflected on the connection between humans and the natural world. More recently, the postcolonial turn in contemporary literature has highlighted the contrast between the environment of the former colonies and that of Portugal. Contributors to the collection examine how Portuguese writers engage with the environment and have incorporated nature in their texts not only to prompt social, political or philosophical reflections on human society, but also as a way to learn from non-humans. The book is organized into three sections. The first explores the relationship between Portuguese philosophy, historiography, culture, and environmental issues. The second section discusses the link between literary texts and the environment from the Renaissance to 1900. The final section analyzes the connection between literary movements or specific authors and environmental change from 1900 to today. Scholars of literature, Latin American studies, literature, and environmental studies will find this volume especially useful.
Book Synopsis Diario de una soledad by : May Sarton
Download or read book Diario de una soledad written by May Sarton and published by Gallo Nero. This book was released on 2023-09-20 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Preludios by : Santiago Miralles Huete
Download or read book Preludios written by Santiago Miralles Huete and published by Turner. This book was released on 2016-04 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Contemporary Art and Multicultural Education by : Susan Cahan
Download or read book Contemporary Art and Multicultural Education written by Susan Cahan and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary art and multicultural education is the first book of its kind to address the role of art within today's multicultural education. Co-published with the New Museum of Contemporary Art, this beautifully illustrated book provides both theoretical foundations and practical resources for art educators and students, combining exquisite color reproductions, statements from contemporary artists and interviews with notable educators. Absent from multicultural art education is an approach which connects everyday experience, social critique and creative expression with classroom learning; for students from widely-varied backgrounds and differing levels of English comprehension, art becomes a vital means of reflecting upon the nature of society and social existence. To this end, this volume features both works of art and artists' personal statements in English and Spanish with lesson plans which explore topics that connect what students learn in school to what life experiences might reveal.
