Book Synopsis Signals Intelligence in the Post-cold War Era by : Desmond Ball
Download or read book Signals Intelligence in the Post-cold War Era written by Desmond Ball and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 1993 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Signals intelligence (SIGINT), or the collection of intelligence by the interception of communications or monitoring of other electronic signals, is the most productive source of intelligence available to governments and their defence establishments. In the Asia-Pacific region, there are moves to greater defence self-reliance. Throughout the region there has been a significant expansion of SIGNIT capabilities and operations over the past decade, and this is expected to continue over the foreseeable future. Signals Intelligence in the Post-Cold War Era describes these recent developments in global and regional SIGINT capabilities and operations, and provides some explanation for their developments.

Book Synopsis United States Military Forces and Installations in Europe by : Simon Duke
Download or read book United States Military Forces and Installations in Europe written by Simon Duke and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many people who live in Europe, the presence of substantial US military forces is a matter of concern and debate, which has tended so far to centre around a few highly-visible bases, such as the cruise missile locations. Apart from these few bases, relatively little is known about the size and extent of the US military presence in Europe. This book aims to fill that gap by providing the raw data on what is where. The study also highlights the historical details behind the acquisition of bases in individual countries, and summarizes and analyses all of the basing agreements between the US and its host nations which are available to the public. The book a timely contribution to the debate: as discussions begin for possible post-INF cuts in superpower force levels in Europe, there is an urgent need for accurate and unbiased information on US forces in Western Europe and on the massive infrastructure that supports those forces.

Book Synopsis Tactical Communications for the Digitized Battlefield by : Michael J. Ryan
Download or read book Tactical Communications for the Digitized Battlefield written by Michael J. Ryan and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2002 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional tactical communications systems consist of a number of separate subsystems with little interworking between them and with external sensors and weapons systems. Combat net radio (CNR) has provided the high-mobility communications required by combat troops, while trunk communications systems have provided high-capacity communications between headquarters at the expense of mobility. The focus of this book is on new, information-age technologies that promise to offer seamless integration of real-time data sharing, creating a single logical network architecture to facilitate the movement of data throughout the battlespace. Because the structure of this network is constrained by the fundamental trade-off between range, mobility and capacity that applies to all communications systems, this network is unlikely to be based on a single network technology. This book presents an architecture for this network, and shows how its subsystems can be integrated to form a single logical network.
