Book excerpt: The USS Repose and Vietnam are now fifty-five years in the rearview mirror, but it seems to be a previous lifetime. Before reading this book, I invite the reader to, just for the time being, displace the movies you have seen relative to the war. No movie can display the true emotions of the experience and lifetime of reliving any war. Only those who have experienced it can tell the real experiences they endured. Movies are stories of individual battles and experiences that may be ‘based on a real story’. You may have emotional experiences as you watch those movies, however, other than a scene or two, those scenes quickly and quietly fade into the past.

This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Newly translated and paraphrased selections from Old Testament and so-called "apocryphal" biblical wisdom literature, including The Wisdom of "Solomon," Jesus Ben Sirach, Tobias (Tobit), Greek "Ezra," King David and other inspired Jewish and Greek writers, are rendered into modern English. The original stories of "The Three Wise Young Men" and Tobias (Tobit} have been reconstructed, whilst retaining as many of the later moralistic interpolations as seemed consistent with the original narratives. Tobias is especially important as it is the book drawn upon by Jesus of Nazareth for his most famous parable and maxims. Other books represented include "Susanna," "The Visions of Ezra," "Proverbs," "Psalms," "Baruch" and "The Prayer of Manasseh."

Book Synopsis From One Father to Another by : Kevin Robert Jarvis
Download or read book From One Father to Another written by Kevin Robert Jarvis and published by Word Alive Press. This book was released on 2020-04-30 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever questioned how God can allow so much evil and suffering in this world? Perhaps you are kept awake at night wondering if God even hears your prayers at all. Do you get anxious speculating if God has a specific plan for your life? Is Christianity more true than other religions? Maybe you have even questioned if our gift of free will is worth the horrific consequences that we see so often on the daily news. During an afternoon walk, Kevin was pondering some of these same questions. One kept nagging at him: why would God create us to live in such a broken world? As he walked in silence, the question continued to haunt him. God answered him in the depths of his heart with a question of his own. “If you are willing to question why I would bring my children into such a fallen world, then how do you justify bringing your own three children into the same world?” The answer was the start of a journey, a humble journey into the heart of God, which became From One Father to Another.
Book Synopsis Dead Men Talking by : Thomas S. Warren II
Download or read book Dead Men Talking written by Thomas S. Warren II and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is an absolute MUST for every serious student of the Word of God and should be required reading for every prospective minister." --Rev. Dr. J. Ronald Schoolcraft, Advent Christian Church, Jacksonville, Florida Dead Men Talking is a clear and simple biblical guide for everyone who seeks to understand the real meaning of life and death. A pastor for more than thirty years, Thomas S. Warren II allows the Scriptures to speak for themselves. The most natural teachings of the Bible, he says, reveal a distinct difference between God's Word and popular traditions. Using the Bible as his guide in separating biblical truth from cultural consensus, and fact from fiction, Warren examines such contemplative questions as: Will there be a Second Coming? What is resurrection? What really happens when we die? What is eternal life? To help readers further explore these and other important questions, Warren has incorporated a study guide that lends hands-on practicality to the ideas and issues covered in his book. If you are ready to search for answers--even if it means questioning everything you've ever learned--then Dead Men Talking is the perfect companion on your journey to spiritual discovery.
Download or read book Heaven Is for Real written by Todd Burpo and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-07-11 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven. Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear. Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us. Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.
Book Synopsis Authorizing Shakespeare on Film and Television by : L. Monique Pittman
Download or read book Authorizing Shakespeare on Film and Television written by L. Monique Pittman and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2011 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authorizing Shakespeare on Film and Television examines recent film and television transformations of William Shakespeare's drama by focusing on the ways in which modern directors acknowledge and respond to the perceived authority of Shakespeare as author, text, cultural icon, theatrical tradition, and academic institution. This study explores two central questions. First, what efforts do directors make to justify their adaptations and assert an interpretive authority of their own? Second, how do those self-authorizing gestures impact upon the construction of gender, class, and ethnic identity within the filmed adaptations of Shakespeare's plays? The chosen films and television series considered take a wide range of approaches to the adaptative process - some faithfully preserve the words of Shakespeare; others jettison the Early Modern language in favor of contemporary idiom; some recreate the geographic and historical specificity of the original plays, and others transplant the plot to fresh settings. The wealth of extra-textual material now available with film and television distribution and the numerous website tie-ins and interviews offer the critic a mine of material for accessing the ways in which directors perceive the looming Shakespearean shadow and justify their projects. Authorizing Shakespeare on Film and Television places these directorial claims alongside the film and television plotting and aesthetic to investigate how such authorizing gestures shape the presentation of gender, class, and ethnicity.
Book Synopsis When Will the Heaven Begin? by : Ally Breedlove
Download or read book When Will the Heaven Begin? written by Ally Breedlove and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AN INSPIRATIONAL AND HEARTRENDING MEMOIR ABOUT BEN BREEDLOVE, WHO SHARED HIS NEAR-DEATHEXPERIENCES AND VISIONS OF HEAVEN IN HIS VIRAL VIDEOS—WRITTEN BY HIS SISTER, ALLY BREEDLOVE. On Christmas Day 2011, Ben Breedlove’s soul went to heaven. But it wasn’t his first time there. Ben suffered from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a heart condition that posed a constant risk of sudden death. His condition, a thickening of the heart muscle, worsened over time, leaving him weak and fatigued. It also led Ben to some close calls medically, in particular cardiac arrest on four separate occasions, during which he felt the presence of angels and experienced the perfect peace of heaven. Precocious and warm, Ben was close with his family and two siblings, and forged deep relationships with his friends. He loved to wakeboard and wake surf, and he had dreams of visiting foreign countries around the world. He created the YouTube channels TotalRandomness512 and BreedloveTV, and co-created the channel OurAdvice4You, where he posted videos about everything from dating advice for girls to more serious topics like his spirituality and heart condition. Unbeknownst to his parents and family, Ben created a two-part video called "This Is My Story," in which he used flashcards to tell the world about his near-death experiences and his beckoning toward heaven. When he died a short while later, at the tender age of eighteen, his family and the rest of the world stumbled upon these videos. The world responded with overwhelming acceptance of the message Ben shared. Sharing his vision of heaven was Ben’s gift to his family, and to the world. And now this is the Breedlove family’s gift to us – an in-depth look at the life and near-deaths of Ben, the strength and faith of a family, and ultimately, the hope of heaven. Do you believe in Angels or God? I Do. – Ben Breedlove
