Book Synopsis Multi-Carrier Spread-Spectrum & Related Topics by : Khaled Fazel
Download or read book Multi-Carrier Spread-Spectrum & Related Topics written by Khaled Fazel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-02-28 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The benefits and success of multi-carrier (MC) modulation on one side and the flexibility offered by the spread spectrum (SS) technique on the other side has motivated many researchers to investigate the combination of both techniques since 1993. This combination, known as multi-carrier spread-spectrum (MC-SS), benefits from the main advantages of both systems and offers high flexibility, high spectral efficiency, simple detection strategies, narrow-band interference rejection capability, etc.. The basic principle of this combination is straightforward: The spreading is performed as direct sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) but instead of transmitting the chips over a single carrier, several sub-carriers could be employed. The MC modulation and demodulation can easily be realized in the digital domain by performing IFFT and FFT operations. The separation of the users' signals could be performed in the code domain. This means that the MC-SS system performs the spreading in the frequency domain, which allows for simple signal detection strategies. Since 1993, MCSS has been deeply studied and new alternative solutions have been proposed. Meanwhile, deep system analysis and comparison with DS-CDMA have been performed that show the superiority of MC-CDMA. The aim of Multi-Carrier Spread-Spectrum & Related Topics is to edit the ensemble of the newest contributions and research results in this new field that will be presented during three days at the Third International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Spread-Spectrum (MC-SS) & Related Topics, held in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.

Download or read book Multi-Carrier Spread-Spectrum written by Khaled Fazel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: l 1 Khaled Fazel , Gerhard P. Fettweis lGerman Aerospace Research Establishment (DLR) Institute for Communications Technology 0-82234 Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany lDresden University of Technology Department of Electrical Engineering 0-01062 Dresden, Germany To operate future generation multimedia communications systems high data rate transmission needs to be guaranteed with a high quality of service. For instance, the third generation cellular mobile systems should offer a high data rate up to 2 Mbitls for video, audio, speech and data transmission [1]. In addition, the important challenge for these cellular systems will be the choice of an appropriate multiple access scheme. These trends motivated many researchers to look for multiple access systems that offer high spectral efficiency. The technique of spread spectrum originating from the military applications may allow partly to fulfill the above requirements. Advantages of spread spectrum technique are broadly known: High immunity against multipath distortion, no need for frequency planning, high flexibility, easier variable rate transmission etc. [1-2]. A multiple access scheme based on direct sequence spread spectrum, known as direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) relies on spreading the data stream using an assigned spreading code for each user in the time domain. The capability of minimising multiple access interference (MAl) is given by the cross correlation properties of spreading codes. In the case of multipath propagation the capability of distinguishing one component from others in the composite received signal is offered by the auto-correlation properties of the spreading codes [2].

Book Synopsis Coherent Cooperative Relaying in Low Mobility Wireless Multiuser Networks by : Stefan Berger
Download or read book Coherent Cooperative Relaying in Low Mobility Wireless Multiuser Networks written by Stefan Berger and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, several important aspects of cooperative wireless multiuser networks are investigated. The focus lies on coherent two-hop relaying networks where several amplify-and-forward (AF) relays assist the communication between multiple source-destination pairs. First, the impact of local oscillator (LO) imperfections and I/Q imbalance at the relays on two-hop relaying is investigated. A special focus lies on the comparison between frequency division duplexing (FDD) and time division duplexing (TDD) relays. Based on the observation that the direction in which a channel between two wireless nodes is measured has an impact on the estimate, phase synchronization requirements for coherent relaying networks are then found. Several channel estimation protocols that differ in the direction in which the single-hop channels are measured are furthermore identi'ed and their performance is compared. Next, a very simple phase synchronization scheme is presented that provides a set of relays with a common LO phase. Two coherent beamforming schemes, namely multiuser zero-forcing (MUZF) and multiuser minimum mean squared error (MMSE) relaying, are then investigated. Finally, a real-world demonstrator for distributed wireless communication networks (called RACooN Lab) is presented. It was used to implement coherent cooperative communication schemes on a practical two-hop relaying network.

This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive reference giving a thorough explanation of propagation mechanisms, channel characteristics results, measurement approaches and the modelling of channels Thoroughly covering channel characteristics and parameters, this book provides the knowledge needed to design various wireless systems, such as cellular communication systems, RFID and ad hoc wireless communication systems. It gives a detailed introduction to aspects of channels before presenting the novel estimation and modelling techniques which can be used to achieve accurate models. To systematically guide readers through the topic, the book is organised in three distinct parts. The first part covers the fundamentals of the characterization of propagation channels, including the conventional single-input single-output (SISO) propagation channel characterization as well as its extension to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cases. Part two focuses on channel measurements and channel data post-processing. Wideband channel measurements are introduced, including the equipment, technology and advantages and disadvantages of different data acquisition schemes. The channel parameter estimation methods are then presented, which include conventional spectral-based estimation, the specular-path-model based high-resolution method, and the newly derived power spectrum estimation methods. Measurement results are used to compare the performance of the different estimation methods. The third part gives a complete introduction to different modelling approaches. Among them, both scattering theoretical channel modelling and measurement-based channel modelling approaches are detailed. This part also approaches how to utilize these two modelling approaches to investigate wireless channels for conventional cellular systems and some new emerging communication systems. This three-part approach means the book caters for the requirements of the audiences at different levels, including readers needing introductory knowledge, engineers who are looking for more advanced understanding, and expert researchers in wireless system design as a reference.
