Book excerpt: This bibliography contains careful and bias-free annotations of close to 3,500 works written over many centuries about the end of the world, predominantly but not entirely from a Christian perspective. The books, pamphlets, websites, and selected other media cover a wide variety of eschatological beliefs--from the numerous fundamentalist scenarios to the mystical and the violent--and include such topics as the Tribulation, the Rapture, the Millennium, Armageddon, the Second Coming, the Antichrist, and the Apocalypse. Works on other major religions (such as Judaism, Islam), the mythos of popular cultures (Mayan prophecies, Norse Ragnarok), UFO, occult and psychic theories (Heaven's Gate, Nostradamus), and secular theories (Y2k+ computer chaos) can be found. The work is in four parts (plus indexes). Entries in the pre-1800 part are arranged chronologically beginning with the Books of Enoch in the second century BC. Other entries are arranged alphabetically within the three chronological subdivisions of 1800-1910, 1910-1970, and post-1970. All include full bibliographic information and annotations regarding format, type of work, theme, the author's background, the category of theories espoused, distinctive or notable characteristics, the intended readership, and the significance of the work. There are cross-references to works by the same author. An introduction describes major types of beliefs, outlines basic Fundamentalist end-of-the-world scenarios, summarizes Biblical sources, and explains important terms, concepts and relationships among sources. The work is extensively indexed by author, title, and subject.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study presents an analytical description of the theological methods of Arno C. Gaebelein, a leading dispensational and fundamentalist speaker and writer. Gaebelein's entire theological system, ground in a thorough acceptance of evangelical belief and emphasizing bibliology, Christology, and eschatology, was organized around the central interpretive motif of prophetic hope focused on the personal Second Coming of Christ. While contributing to a deeper understanding of the history of fundamentalism and dispensationalism, Gaebelein's example helps to establish a descriptive definition of dispensationalism based mostly upon hermeneutical concerns.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this up-to-date study of the Israeli economy, Assaf Razin and Efraim Sadka cover the entire economic history of the state, focusing on links between Israel's economic growth, its integration into world markets, its tax and welfare systems, and the political conflicts in the Middle East. The authors present the first detailed economic analysis of the Palestinian uprising, showing how the unrest has led to a fall in Arab employment in Israel and serious economic loss to the occupied territories with some loss to Israel. They also examine how the uprising has affected Israel's financial standing internationally and the inflow of foreign aid. Razin and Sadka see promise for Israel's economy in the waves of immigration from the former Soviet Union, despite the current difficulties in absorbing the immigrants; in the coexistence of a flourishing and highly competitive private sector with a relatively large public sector, which is undergoing privatization; and in a tax structure that encourages long-term saving and business growth. By examining the interplay between the exchange rate, interest rates, and monetary and anti-inflation policies, the authors investigate the possibilities for renewed growth and conclude that the future of Israel's economy crucially depends on serious efforts to secure peace in the Middle East.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative economic history of Israel from its founding to the present In 1922, there were ninety thousand Jews in Palestine, a small country in a poor and volatile region. Today, Israel has a population of nine million and is one of the richest countries in the world. The Israeli Economy tells the story of this remarkable transformation, shedding critical new light on Israel's rapid economic growth. Joseph Zeira takes readers from those early days to today, describing how Israel's economic development occurred amid intense fighting with the Palestinians and neighboring Arab countries. He reveals how the new state's astonishing growth continued into the early 1970s, and traces this growth to public investment in education and to large foreign transfers. Zeira analyzes the costs of the Arab-Israeli conflict, demonstrating how economic output could be vastly greater with a comprehensive peace. He discusses how Israel went through intensive neoliberal economic policies in recent decades, and shows how these policies not only failed to enhance economic performance, but led to significant social inequality. Based on more than two decades of groundbreaking research, The Israeli Economy is an in-depth survey of a modern economy that has experienced rapid growth, wars, immigration waves, and other significant shocks. It thus offers important lessons for nations around the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the most extensive of its kind as a major set of collected essays from a wide range of scholars on the question of the promises of God to Israel. These essays put forward the position that unconditional promises were given to Israel, which have not been fulfilled in the church or any other entity. At the consummation, there will be a continuing role for the Jews, realized through their national and territorial hope of a restored-redeemed Israel. This volume contains an eclectic group of contributors who have reached this position from various approaches to interpretation. The essays exhibit both positive argumentation and engagement with supersessionist literature.

Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1.7, University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück (Osnabrueck University of Applied Sciences), language: English, abstract: Israel is a relatively young country and economy. In its short life of 60 years, its economy has matured through continuing crises and has become strong and well diversified. Almost all years of the country’s existence it has enjoyed healthy economic growth. Apart from these achievements, the country and the economy are facing serious problems. The conflict with the Palestinians, which has been dragging on for decades, in the new millennium has intensified and became more and more violent. Besides the obvious humanitarian and political consequences, this conflict also has many economic implications – all but positive, both for Israel and the Palestinians. Both parties are paying a high economic price for the continuation of this conflict – with falling GDP’s, loss of jobs, sanctions on one another and most importantly – the huge unfulfilled potential that lies in economic cooperation between the two. Israel is also facing an internal economic and social problem – the Ultra-orthodox Jews population group. Due to their unique lifestyle of abiding vigorously to religion, they almost do not participate in the Israeli labour market, rely heavily on government help and also do dot join the army like all other Israeli Jews. This group contributes to the poverty rate in an unproportional manner, being much poorer than other Israelis. Due to very high fertility rate, the Ultra-orthodox, who used to be just a small minority, are on the way to become almost a quarter of the population in two decades. This situation demands some urgent changes.
