Download or read book God with Us written by Christoph Barth and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1991-04-30 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. "God's dynamic initiative" is the main theme of biblical testimony, says Christoph Barth. Here he expounds the message of the Old Testament in a manner that is faithful to the Old Testament itself -- as an account of the mighty acts of God rather than a series of abstract doctrines. A theology of the Old Testament is not simply a study of God, however. Old Testament theology also encompasses teaching about the world and humanity, about life and death, about origin, nature, and destiny. And Old Testament theology must also take into account the New Testament, which confirms what is announced in Israel's Scripture and thus is part of it. Barth elucidates the importance of the Old Testament for the New Testament and hence for Christians, surveys God's redemptive acts as recorded in the confessional summaries of history in the Old and New Testaments, and offers contemporary applications of these biblical themes. Working his way through the Old Testament, Barth treats nine key topics, each of which deals with one of the divine acts that are the essential subject matter of Israel's Scripture: creation, election of the patriarchs, exodus, wilderness wandering, Sinai revelation, gift of Canaan, election of David (kingship), election of Jerusalem and sending of prophets. He has divided each of the nine chapters into sections on one main aspect of the topic, considering theological, anthropological, soteriological, and eschatological points as well. Throughout his examination of each theme Barth pays special attention to its scriptural context. God With Us is an excellent textbook for introductory or survey courses in the Old Testament: each section begins with a thesis statement, summarizing its contents, and details are treated in small-print sections. Barth originally wrote his Old Testament theology in Indonesian and later rewrote the entire book in English; Geoffrey Bromiley has condensed the original four volumes in this edition.

Book Synopsis Diamonds in the Rough by : Cindy Lasiter
Download or read book Diamonds in the Rough written by Cindy Lasiter and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God used the lives of His Old Testament servants to advance history toward His planned revelation of His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As He did, He also provided a written record for us to study and use as warnings, exhortations, and boundaries for our own lives. Although our circumstances have changed since ancient biblical times, the people represented in them still look much the same as you and I! This study provides women with a unique approach to learning and applying God's principles for daily living, by examining some of the key lessons that are to be seen from the lives of many Old Testament characters. As we see their attributes and flaws, and study how God interacted with them, we can appreciate how His own standards of holiness are never compromised, although His guidance is tempered with great love and mercy. Join Cindy Lasiter in this seventeen-week study, which can be used for personal study or dynamic group discussion. You too will gain great hope and direction as you see how even God's most incredible servants in the Bible were, at best, diamonds in the rough! Author's Cover Bio Cindy Lasiter has taught God's Word to children, youth, and women for many years. She was a class administrator and women's discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship International, as well as the director of women's ministry for her church. She currently teaches a Bible study for women at RockPointe Church in Flower Mound, Texas. Her greatest desire is to teach women how to apply God's Word to their lives in order to know Him better and live out His plan and purpose on earth.
Book Synopsis Be Mature in Understanding by : Ben Midgley
Download or read book Be Mature in Understanding written by Ben Midgley and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written out of a deep concern to see Jewish believers in Yeshua-Jesus playing their part in the worldwide church of Messiah, using their knowledge of God’s word, their Jewishness, their natural and spiritual gifts, and a humble, thankful heart. Knowledge of the truths of Scripture is a vital key to love for God and fruitfulness in his service, and this book focuses on both the Bible’s unfolding story (biblical theology) and its specific doctrines and their interrelationship (systematic theology). Our aim is to build a biblical framework of thinking in the heart and mind. It is written from an evangelical understanding and in a way that interacts with the main forms of Judaism and Christianity. It is a study book, with questions to answer and further reading suggestions. Similar books of doctrine with the same scope have been written, but few if any take account of the context of Jewish readers and the issues which are important to them. The authors have attempted to achieve this within the context of the whole counsel of God. Error sets no one free but truth does; the hope of the authors is for readers to be free to love and serve the Lord with all their mind and heart.

Book Synopsis ''You'' Vs. the Devil 1.0.1 by : Gary Zimmerman
Download or read book ''You'' Vs. the Devil 1.0.1 written by Gary Zimmerman and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-08 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When people read the Bible, quite often they are frustrated by the feeling of not being able to understand it. The goal of this book is to help the reader understand a clearer view of how life was in the beginning, and still is today, in relation to dealing with the devil. To also help the reader understand that the devil and his angels are very real, and are working hard to destroy every one of us. To see how the downfall of a perfect world and the destruction of man began, and is in no way different today, than when the devil introduced himself to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They made a bad choice! Why did they? How do the choices we make today affect our lives? The author truly believes that everyone should first, as new born babes, desire the Milk of the Word as the Bible states in 1st. Peter 2:2. Then we will grow in understanding thereby. Only then do we get a clearer understanding, as we get into the Meat of the Word. Also in, Job 32:8 were told; But there is a spirit in man; and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. You do not have to be a biblical scholar to understand the Bible, just have the desire, and ask the Lord to guide you and He will open your eyes in many ways, especially, in reference to; You vs. the Devil.

How has such a tiny nation been able to make an unprecedented contribution to the well-being of all of humankind? Why did the Jewish people become a source of endless irritation to those who opposed their ethical teachings? and How can the State of Israel rediscover its Jewish identity as the source of its greatest blessing and hope? Book Synopsis Miracles and the Kingdom of God by : Myrick C. Shinall
Download or read book Miracles and the Kingdom of God written by Myrick C. Shinall and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade or so, scholarship on the miracles of Jesus has shifted from reconstructions of the historical Jesus to the questions of why and to what end early Jesus-followers told stories about miracles. Myrick Shinall contends that Mark and Q contain two distinct ways of remembering Jesus’s miracles in relation to his proclamation of the kingdom of God. He compares three cases of Mark-Q overlaps which feature miracles: the Beelzebul controversy, the commissioning of the disciples, and the testing or “temptation” narratives, and finds that in Mark, the miracles and the kingdom of God both point to Jesus’ identity as a divine figure, whereas in Q, Jesus and the miracles point instead to the coming kingdom of God. Shinall further argues that these different views represent different strategies for creating group identities for Jesus’ followers, strategies that came into conflict as the movement’s identity coalesced. At length, he shows that the mix of “high” and “low” Christology in the Synoptic tradition requires reframing of the current debate over how early a “high” Christology developed in the nascent Jesus movement.
