Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isaiah's ministry as a prophet—during the period of the divided kingdom—spanned the reigns of four Judean kings. He condemned the empty ritualism of his day and the idolatry into which the people had fallen. He foresaw the coming Babylonian captivity, and some of his prophecies were even fulfilled in his lifetime, but the literal fulfillment of his prophecies concerning Christ's first coming have given Isaiah's words their strongest vindication—and the further assurance in the prophecies of Christ's second coming. In this study, pastor John MacArthur will guide you through an in-depth look at the historical backdrop to the book of Isaiah, continuing through the different prophecies and the teachings about the grace of God. Studies include close-up examinations of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, as well as careful considerations of doctrinal themes such as the "Redemption of Israel" and "The Future Glory of God's People." —ABOUT THE SERIES— The MacArthur Bible Study series is designed to help you study the Word of God with guidance from widely respected pastor and author John MacArthur. Each guide provides intriguing examinations of the whole of Scripture by examining its parts and incorporates: Extensive, but straight-forward commentary on the text. Detailed observations on overriding themes, timelines, history, and context. Word and phrase studies to help you unlock the broader meaning and apply it to your life. Probing, interactive questions with plenty of space to write down your response and thoughts.

Book excerpt: This multifaceted volume artfully blends the functions of an introduction and a commentary. Without overwhelming the student with details, it discusses a wide range of issues that are important for the interpretation of Isaiah. The book consists of three parts. In the first part, Herbert Wolf discusses the more traditional introductory questions: the world of Isaiah, the theories of multiple authorship, the structure of Isaiah, and Isaiah's poetry. The second part is a detailed paragraph-by-paragraph analysis of the prophecy itself. The last part of the book discusses Isaiah's christological and eschatological emphases. Detailed footnotes and an extensive bibliography facilitate further study.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are constantly engaged in processing data and sensory inputs all around us, even when we are not conscious of the many neural pathways our minds are traveling. So taking a step back to ponder the dimensions and practices of a particular way of thinking is a challenge. Even more important, however, is cultivating the habits of mind necessary in a life of ministry. This book, therefore, will grapple with the particular ways that the theological disciplines invite students to think but also the ways in which thinking theologically shapes a student’s sense of self and his or her role in a wider community of belief and thought. Thinking theologically is not just a cerebral matter; thinking theologically invokes an embodied set of practices and values that shape individuals and communities alike. Thinking theologically demands both intellect and emotion, logic and compassion, mind and body. In fact, this book—as part of the Foundations for Learning series—will contend that these binaries are actually integrated wholes, not mutually exclusive options.

Book excerpt: A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.

Join pastor and biblical counselor Josh Weidmann on a journey through Scripture and his own vulnerable stories of discovering God’s ultimate purpose in pain. The End of Anxiety is designed for individuals or small groups; each chapter begins with Scripture and finishes with practical steps you can apply for immediate relief. Your anxiety, fear, stress, and panic are not the end of you—but facing them could be the start of something great! “Read this, apply it, and find freedom from fear—forever.” Ray Johnston Senior pastor of Bayside Church in Granite Bay, California

Book excerpt: "The topic of "ISAIAH: End Times and Messiah in Judaism" is explained in the book's title. The book uses selected sections of the Hebrew biblical Book of Isaiah as a springboard for explaining Judaism's understanding of the eschatological concepts of the End Times Redemption and the Messiah. I was motivated to write this book because in repeated conversations with American Christian pastors and believers, I found that there was a lack of agreement about even the meaning of the terminology that both Christianity and Judaism share in describing their views of the future. I chose to use the Book of Isaiah as my primary source because Christian tradition, based on understanding of translations of the book into English, makes use of Isaiah as a source for understanding the future Redemption and the coming of the Messiah. Judaism has a long-established and quite different understanding of these concepts. For the past 2,000 years, the Jewish understanding of these sources has been repressed due to the danger of stating things that are not in line with dominant Christian dogma. We now live in an era where such things are no longer taboo, and the Jewish view can be placed on the table for all to see and understand. This is a critical step in helping Christians understand the Jewish sources of their faith"--
