Book excerpt: Bill just wanted someone to pass him the potatoes. Unfortunately, no one even noticed--not his mother (a very busy woman with an important job), not his father (a very important man with a busy job), not his very intelligent older brother, not even his very athletic little sister. If someone had noticed, the wonderful, terrible thing that happened might never have happened. But it did. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you should have guessed by the title, this is not the standard bedtime story with a princess and a prince and an evil stepparent and some sort of magic spell. Not one castle, nor trolls, not even an enchanted forest is tucked with loving care into this bedtime story. To be totally honest about the whole shebang, its not so much a bedtime story as a bedtime epic event. An explanation may be in order right about now. There are 30 Adventures in this saga, to be read in order as bedtime stories. No skipping around, mind you, because it will make even less sense if you do that, so when you get to the Temple of the Belchmonkeys and your mind is not totally prepared for it, well, thats a whole different bucket of pickles altogether. And you could rip through more than one story in a night, but that might just make your kids loopy. 30 Adventures, 30 nights, so youre pretty much covered for a month. Now, somebodys going to screech that some months have 31 days (thanks, May and October and you other troublemakers for screwing this up) and so you have a day left over. And theres some real hollering going on about the February problem, and how if you read this story during that month, even during a leap year, you still have extra story left over. The thing is, the story is 30 nights long because its a nice round number (unlike 31, which is prime, for crying out loud) and thats how long the story takes to tell. So there. The important idea is that this is an interactive story. Not a passive story where your kid lays there like an unfortunate lump on the mattress and you yammer on until you bore the poor child to sleep. This story has a narrator reading the action lines (thats you, sport). There are also 21 different voices in the tale, all of which youll have fun doing. Even better, let your child read along and read a voice or two. The full list of voices is on the next few pages, plus what we think they sound like, although you can change them pretty much any way you want. Its not like were keeping score. Also, you will find action lines sprinkled throughout. Youll recognize these because theyre in italics so they look like theyre in motion, hence we call them action lines and they instruct you or your offspring to do certain things. Be nice and gentle, since youll have to start a pillow fight in Adventure 1. Remember, youre bigger. Play nice.

This book was released on 2012-01-23 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sixers won 65 games and an NBA championship in 1982-83, still one of the finest seasons in NBA history. It was Moses Malone who, in the days before the playoffs, gave the team its battle cry. Asked by coach Billy Cunningham how he thought things would go in the playoffs, Moses said, "Fo', fo', fo'" - meaning, in Moses' shorthand, that he expected the Sixers to sweep each of the three series they would need to play in order to win a championship. In Pat Williams' Tales from the 76ers, the former Sixers general manager writes about those Sixers - the transcendent talents (and personalities like Julius Erving, Bobby Jones, Maurice Cheeks, and Andrew Toney) that made them special, the years of heartache that preceded the championship run, and a season that was surprisingly devoid of drama. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sports—books about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team. It was Moses Malone who, in the days before the playoffs, gave the team its battle cry. Asked by coach Billy Cunningham how he thought things would go in the playoffs, Moses said, "Fo’, fo’, fo’,”— meaning, in Moses's shorthand, that he expected the Sixers to sweep each of the three series they would need to play in order to win a championship. In this newly revised edition of Tales from the Philadelphia '76ers Locker Room, sports maverick Pat Williams teams up with writer Gordon Jones to capture a behind-the-scenes look at this legendary season. With wit and candor, Williams and Jones relive the unforgettable victories as well as the wrenching disappointments and painstaking efforts to rebuild that preceded that season. Readers are reintroduced to Julius “Dr. J” Erving, the beloved but unfulfilled superstar; Billy Cunningham, the hard-driven coach; Harold Katz, the relentless owner; and Moses Malone, the final piece of the title puzzle. Joined by a star-studded cast of players, they rampaged through the league, leaving a trail of devastated teams in their wake. With a thirty-year legacy that has yet to be surpassed by any '76ers team, Tales from the Philadelphia '76ers Locker Room is both a celebration of past glory and a promise of future victory to the loyal fans of the '76ers nation.

After centuries alone in his old castle, Vlad is ready to try something new. When he hears the local hockey team gushing about how they'll crush and destroy their opponents in the next game, he knows he's found the activity for him! Vlad immediately gives the game his all, but he soon realizes that super-human powers don't mean much in hockey without a mastery of the basics. After weeks of practice, he's finally ready for the big game...but can a hundreds-of-years-old vampire really learn new tricks? This hilarious, energetic picture book encourages teamwork, perserverance, and a love of hockey that will last a lifetime, even for an immortal being.

This book was released on 2004-01-30 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Knox (1514-1572) was more a reformer of the Scottish Kirk than he was a systematic theologian, as his collected works will attest. Knox had a profound influence upon theological and ecclesiological developments in Scotland both purely by the force of his personality and by the role he played in shaping the Scots Confession and the Book of Common Order. Knox was an ordained priest and served as a tutor prior to his conversion to Protestantism. Volumes One and Two: Knox's famous 'History of the Reformation in Scotland'. Apologetics as much as history, 'History of the Reformation in Scotland' was immediately seized and suppressed when it initially appeared, yet it has remained available in various editions for over 400 years. Volume Three: 'Earliest Writings', 1548-1554 Volume Four: 'Writings from Frankfurt and Geneva'. These writings in exile include Knox's famous 'First Blast of the Trumpet against the Monstrous Regiment of Women', his violent diatribe against Mary of Guise. Volume Five: 'On Predestination' and other writings. 'On Predestination, in Answer to the Cavillations by an Anabaptist' is Knox's longest theological work and presents a position of rigid predestinationism. Volume Six: Letters, Prayer, and other shorter writings with a sketch of his life.
