Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In everyday parlance, synthesis is synonymous with short. Here, Mauro Gagliardi uses synthesis as it has been applied to the Hypostatic Union in Christ: the “Synthetic Union” of the two natures in one Person. All of dogmatic theology is presented from this et-et (both-and), Christocentric approach in Truth is a Synthesis: Catholic Dogmatic Theology. The volume presents for beginners a comprehensive, organic view of the Catholic faith. Truth is a Synthesis spotlights, in a respectful yet clear way, the different views about Christian Dogmatics held by our separated brethren, both Protestant and Orthodox. As he explores the implications of the et-et nature of theology, Gagliardi reveals the underlying unity of both Fundamental and Dogmatic theology “Professor Gagliardi’s book is in every way a magnum opus, both from the qualitative and the quantitative standpoint.”—Cardinal Gerhard L. Müller

Unfortunately, these demands find some support from misguided Churchmen. No doubt the failure of charity which bore fruit in the organization and perpetuation of dissenting bodies did not occur altogether on one side. The hierarchy of bygone days did not always regard the principle of striving not to quench a smoking flax, and employed methods which savoured of external tyranny. But the faith and order of the Church is divine, constituting a "sacred deposit" which is "incapable of compromise or surrender." 1 Accordingly, while charity must be restored, the only road to visible unity is along the ancient paths of the Catholic Church and religion. When the Christian world becomes persuaded of this, visible unity will become possible, and not before. 18. The position of liberalism which we have been considering is narrow to a degree, and would not be mistaken for breadth, if men were in the habit of going beneath the surface of things. A broad mind fosters a catholic spirit, but this means the spirit of the catholic religion--the only religion which is suited to all men's needs. It is progressive, not because it modifies the ancient foundations of truth, but because it enters more and more adequately into the bearing of the Creeds on related departments of truth and life. It is tolerant in that it respects every man's personal liberty, and seeks to propagate truth by simple persuasion, while incapable of seeming to make terms 1 See Declaration on Unity, issued by the American Bishops, Gen. Convention Journal, 1886, p. 80. with error. It seeks to extend the benefits of truth and grace to all mankind, but not by methods that are likely to extinguish the light of truth forever, if generally employed. It is above all things charitable, ...

This book was released on 2016-07-01 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faith Comes from What Is Heard: An Introduction to Fundamental Theology informs both the heart and mind as it brings together dogmatic and biblical theology, the Thomistic tradition, the teachings of the Fathers of the Church, and the contemporary Magisterium. Drawing heavily upon the works of St. Thomas Aquinas, Bl. John Henry Newman, Joseph Ratzinger, and St. John Paul II, the author examines the foundations of Catholic theology, or Fundamental Theology, “which is theology’s reflection on itself as a discipline, its method, and its foundation in God’s Revelation transmitted to us through Scripture and Tradition.” Although Faith Comes from What Is Heard is useful for all Catholics who want to understand the foundations of their faith, it is specifically designed to serve as a textbook for courses in Fundamental Theology in seminaries and in graduate and undergraduate programs in theology. It can also serve as a textbook for introductory theology and Scripture courses. The topics covered in Faith Comes from What Is Heard include: Revelation and FaithTheologyTradition and the MagisteriumBiblical Hermeneuticsthe Historicity of the Gospelsand Biblical Typology
