Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposia on Display Holography (ISDH) are triennial events held in Lake Forest College, bringing together some of the most outstanding scientists, engineers, technicians, artists, as well as entrepreneurs from many countries for a week of congenial information exchange. The PROCEEDINGS are collections of papers presented by these practitioners. By concentrating on both technical & artistic display, i.e., image holography, a deeper level of theoretical & practical details are reached. Many techniques discovered through laboratory experience are presented for the first time in these volumes. Typically, all three volumes contain historical & state-of-the-art reviews by Emmett Leith, honorary chairman; the latest information on new materials & chemical processing; unique system setups; new equipment & optical elements; & artistic concepts & techniques. In addition: Volume I features articles on dichromated gelatin, multiplex (integral) holographic system design, color control techniques in reflection & transmission holograms, & techniques in gallery & museum exhibitions. Volume II adds articles on fiber optics, light-in-flight recording, chemical safety, computer-aided design, state of business, & education as well as updating on all other areas. Volume III adds reports from nations, medical imaging, mass production technology, relativity, & an updating on all other areas.

Download or read book Holograms written by Sean Johnston and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the history of the use of the hologram. Holograms are photographs of interference patterns that, when suitably illuminated, produce three-dimensional images. In its pure form, holography requires the use of laser light for illuminating the subject and for viewing the finished hologram. This work explores how holograms became embedded in modern popular culture. It traces their cultural roots in earlier visual technologies such as stereoscopes and 3-D movies, and examines how holograms of bewildering varieties added novel types of visual spectacle and appeal.

Book Synopsis Holography—A Critical Debate within Contemporary Visual Culture by : Andrew Pepper
Download or read book Holography—A Critical Debate within Contemporary Visual Culture written by Andrew Pepper and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-02 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artists have been exploring the spatial, conceptual and three-dimensional qualities of holography for over fifty years. Why, then, is there so little sustained critical pressure placed on this process, methodology and mode of visualisation which underpins the developing practice? In 1994, pioneering British artist Margaret Benyon, in her doctoral thesis, posed the question “How is Holography Art”, and offered a range of answers, by applying critical pressure to her considerable work in the field. Over 25 years later, we have used Benyon’s investigation as an invitation to ask more questions. This Special Issue in Arts brings together artists working with holography, as well as curators and long-term expert observers with an interest in the medium, to open up a more comprehensive discussion. They have reflected on the development of their work and its place within a cultural and critical framework. The curators and observers have employed a wider lens from their standpoints outside the field, but this is located firmly within current cultural discussions. There are more questions and certainly a need to increase the critical pressure around why holography could be one of the most significant ways of seeing and representing worlds and ideas today. We are surrounded by terrible art (painting, sculpture, print, photography, performance, digital, moving image), and holography has undoubtedly contributed to the visual flotsam clogging our vision. This publication aims to identify the importance of critical conversation, and the place holography holds within our current and complex media landscape.

Book Synopsis Holographic Sensors by : Ali Kemal Yetisen
Download or read book Holographic Sensors written by Ali Kemal Yetisen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-03 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a theoretical and experimental approach for the rapid fabrication, optimization and testing of holographic sensors for the quantification of pH, organic solvents, metal cations, and glucose in solutions. Developing non-invasive and reusable diagnostics sensors that can be easily manufactured will support the monitoring of high-risk individuals in any clinical or point-of-care setting. Sensor fabrication approaches outlined include silver-halide chemistry, laser ablation and photopolymerization. The sensors employ off-axis Bragg diffraction gratings of ordered silver nanoparticles and localized refractive index changes in poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and polyacrylamide films. The sensors exhibited reversible Bragg peak shifts, and diffracted the spectrum of narrow-band light over the wavelength range λpeak ≈ 495-1100 nm. Clinical trials of glucose sensors in the urine samples of diabetic patients demonstrated that they offer superior performance compared to commercial high-throughput urinalysis devices. Lastly, a generic smartphone application to quantify colorimetric tests was developed and tested for both Android and iOS operating systems. The sensing platform and smartphone application may have implications for the development of low-cost, reusable and equipment-free point-of-care diagnostic devices.
