Book excerpt: We are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the first edition of the 2022 International Conference on Intelligent Technologies in Security and Privacy for Wireless Communication (ITSPWC 2022). This conference has brought researchers, developers and practitioners around the world who are leveraging and developing the Wireless Communication. The theme of ITSPWC 2022 was “Security and Challenges for Wireless Communication and Power Energy”. The technical program of ITSPWC 2022 consisted of 33 full papers, including 5 invited papers in oral presentation sessions at the main conference tracks. The conference tracks were: Track 1 – Recent Trends in IoT; Track 2 – Recent Trends in Smart Energy Systems and Transmission; Track 3 – Recent Trends in Embedded Systems; and Track 4 – Recent Trends in Communication Systems. Aside from the high quality technical paper presentations, the technical program also featured one invited talk and two technical workshops. The invited talk was presented by Prof. Kaushik Pal from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The ITSPWC workshop aimed to gain insights into key challenges, understanding and design criteria of employing wireless technologies to develop and implement future related services and applications. It was a great pleasure to work with such an excellent organizing committee team for their hard work in organizing and supporting the conference. In particular, the Technical Program Committee, led by our Co-Chairs, Dr.R.Nagarajan, Dr.George Ghinea, Dr.Alagar Karthick, Dr.Bassim Alhadidi and Prof. Kanagaraj Venusamy who have completed the peer-review process of technical papers and made a high-quality technical program. We are also grateful to all the authors who submitted their papers to the ITSPWC 2022 conference and workshops. We strongly believe that ITSPWC conference provides a good forum for all researcher, developers and practitioners to discuss all science and technology aspects that are relevant to Security and Privacy in Wireless Communication. We also expect that the future Wireless Communication conference will be as successful and stimulating, as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume. Dr.S.Kannadhasan

This was emphasised at the UN World Summit in Johannesburg in 2002 where the reorientation of current education systems was outlined as key to sustainable development. Education for sustainable development (ESD) promotes the development of the knowledge, skills, understanding, values, and actions required to create a sustainable world, which ensures environmental protection and conservation, promotes social equity, and encourages economic sustainability. The concept of ESD developed largely from environmental education, which has sought to develop the knowledge, skills, values, attitudes, and behaviours in people to care for their environment. The aim of ESD is to enable people to make decisions and carry out actions to improve our quality of life without compromising the planet. It also aims to integrate the values inherent in sustainable development into all aspects and levels of learning. Education and the future are inseparably intertwined. It is impossible to think about educational matters without making references to the future. Our understanding of future determines, for example, what knowledge and which skills are important for the next generation. Regarding sustainability issues, it makes a difference whether sustainability is thought as a concrete aim which can be reached through technical innovation and efficiency, or whether it is more a normative direction which needs to be determined democratically. Futures in education determine decisions in the present and thus can be understood as “futures for the present.” If the future is the same as the present or can be predicted with any certainty, then it would seem to be not so difficult to decide what the next generation should best be equipped with. However, if the future is presumed to be uncertain, which is ultimately the case, then the necessary knowledge and skills are not that easy to determine. On closer observation of society and educational practice, the described idealized picture of education seems difficult to maintain. Especially institutionalized education isfar from being free of external influences. The promise of a better future has been shattered because of a few severe global crises. Future in post-modern societies has come to be understood, instead, as uncertain, and contingent.

Encompassing historical and contemporary analysis, and case studies exploring best practice as well as cutting edge themes and issues, the book also represents an impassioned defence of the skill and art of the trained journalist in an era of unmediated digital commentary. With contributions from leading sports-media scholars and practising journalists, the book examines journalism across print, broadcast and digital media, exploring the everyday reality of working as a contemporary reporter, editor or sub-editor. It considers the organisations that shape output, from PR departments to press agencies, as well as the socio-political themes that influence both content and process, such as identity, race and gender. The book also includes interviews with, and biographies of, well-known journalists, as well as case studies looking at the way that some of the biggest names in world sport, from Lance Armstrong to Caster Semenya, have been reported. This is essential reading for all students, researchers and professionals working in sports journalism, sports broadcasting, sports marketing and management, or the sociology or history of sport.

Book excerpt: The promotion of competitiveness has been seen as a way of achieving desirable changes in economy and society at the cost of growth and development. However, it should be noted that productivity and growth that is accompanied by increasing social imbalance to achieve desirable changes in economy and society has sometimes negative consequences for the growth and development. The chapters compiled in this book from economical and social science researchers have generated awareness about the sustainable amalgam of these three subjects. This book contains 12 chapters from different scholars within the country. In fact, these chapters will be quite helpful for students who are keen to learn the multidisciplinary approach in these fields. Since the growth and development is taking place at a very fast rate, there is a need to promote such type of studies so that people will not adopt the measures to gain economy at the cost of environment. This book can be used as a reference book for future researchers for their multidisciplinary approach. We do not intend for this book to be scientifically and technically complete. In fact, many complex multidisciplinary issues have been simplified by using this approach.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, the rapid emergence and spread of both local and transnational extremist organisations has become a primary source of insecurity in Africa. Extremist organisations represent the fluid and variable nature of conflict systems today and are at the heart of some of Africa's most enduring conflicts. Moreover, the inability of African states to contain the threat of extremism, or of heavy-handed security responses, has led to the loss of thousands of lives, displaced millions, and deeply impacted the continent's democratisation and development goals. This is the second anthology published by Good Governance Africa (GGA) on the topic of extremism and political violence in Africa. Extremisms in Africa, one of the first anthologies of its kind on this topic to be authored - and published - on the African continent, provided an account of how extremist groups arose in Africa and the various ways in which they have harnessed their global agendas to local conflict dynamics and structural challenges, enabling them to exploit the grievances of individuals and communities for their cause. This anthology, Extremisms in Africa Volume 2, looks forward, giving special attention to the ways in which emergent trends, global geopolitics and conflict dynamics merge to impact upon the African continent. To this end, we have sought to engage diverse topics ranging from ecological concerns surrounding climate change and migration, the implications of such human movement for modern-day trafficking and slavery, and the roles of women and youth. State responses to extremisms on the African continent are not uniform; the capacity of individual states to detect/identify, police, investigate and prosecute is highly variable. At the most fundamental level, extremisms are ripe to arise in contexts where governments are failing, especially when democracy is on the wane. This anthology identifies some of the most pressing challenges in addressing extremisms today and provides chapters that could offer actionable policy insights to governments and civil society. Given the nature of Africa's geopolitical landscape, state and security services alone cannot prevent extremism. It will take a 'whole-of-society' approach, where government, civil society, academia, communities, families, and individuals collaborate to better understand the local dynamics of recruitment and radicalisation and develop context-specific strategies in response. This anthology will hopefully provide practitioners with improved insight into some of the key challenges and potential solutions in preventing extremism, while also being of interest to the general reader.

Book excerpt: Social Sciences and Humanities might seem to deal with different subject matters in different fields; however, they basically attempt to engage with key ideas and arguments which would help broaden our horizons and profoundly shape our lives. It is, therefore, of immense significance to increase the level of support that these two academic fields receive and to contribute them academically. This book, in this specific context, attempts to provide critical insights into new trends in a wide range of academic disciplines including literature, education, political sciences, philosophy, psychology, and cultural studies. It also aims to create a platform in order to facilitate, motivate and encourage cooperation around the shared values of scientific and academic rationality and freedom in the digital age.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book draws international attention to the autonomy of the child accompanying incarcerated mothers, and those they leave behind in the community, despite being dependent on the convicted caregiver. Adopting a child rights perspective, the study explores how courts could go about sentencing mothers of young children for the commission of criminal offences, whilst protecting the rights of the child as envisaged under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Drawing on the author’s experience as a sentencer in the Kenyan court and with reference to domestic, regional and international law, the book argues that children’s rights are presently left in abeyance when their mothers are sentenced to imprisonment, and that greater efforts should be made to recognize and give effect to the child’s existence as an autonomous equal holder of human rights, despite being dependent on the convicted caregiver. It explores the application of precedence as well as the court’s discretion in view of the dependent child, and concludes that policy reform in this respect calls for change in attitude and approach on women and children’s issues. Observing that internationally, most women imprisoned with their children fall beneath the custodial threshold set by law, the research examines how current sentencing practices could be reformed, and suggests harnessing the Power of Mercy Committee, the Sentencing Guidelines and progressive practices from developed countries in protecting the child’s rights by imposing non-custodial sentences for the offending mothers. It is concluded that in all jurisdictions, strict accountability for the dependent child should be situated with the judiciary, and that the same should be pronounced as a mandatory legal requirement. The book will be a valuable resource for academic, researchers and policy-makers working in the area of international children’s rights law and criminal law.

This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite noticeable growth in Islamic banking and finance literature in recent years, very few published books in this area deal with supervisory and regulatory issues in Islamic banking – theoretically or empirically – and none with the critical issue of risks involved in liquidity management of Islamic banks. This unique book is the first of its kind in dealing with challenges these financial institutions face in the absence of interest rate mechanism and debt-based financial instruments. The book examines critically issues involve in managing the risk of liquidity management for these types of institutions, including those stemming from Basel requirements. It then offers an alternative regulatory framework more appropriately suited for such banks without compromising safety and security. The book's unique features and innovative dimensions diagnostically differentiate between Islamic banks and conventional banks as related to liquidity management risks. It proposes a risk-sharing regulatory framework that, once implemented, would mitigate risks posed by balance-sheet mismatches. The book aims to assist regulators, supervisors, Islamic finance practitioners, academicians and other relevant stakeholders.
