Cette triade de symptômes constitue, dans le champ de la santé mentale au travail, le burnout. Ce travail aborde le vécu et les enjeux pour les parents d'enfants avec une maladie chronique, à travers l'intérêt de la pédopsychiatrie pour le concept spécifique du burnout parental, sujet d'actualité médiatisé. La qualité de vie des parents d'enfants avec une maladie chronique est impactée par la majoration du stress, une perception diminuée de l'efficacité parentale, un taux élevé de conflit et séparation conjugale, un faible niveau de bien-être familial général et des exigences financières accrues. Ces facteurs de risque tendent à augmenter le risque de burnout parental. Dans les données de la littérature médicale, la prévalence de burnout parental est de 36,4% pour les parents d'enfants avec une maladie chronique contre 20% pour les parents d'enfants avec un développement typique (variable entre 12 et 20% selon les études), les mères ont un risque plus élevé. L'identification des stratégies de coping et du soutien social constitue les facteurs protecteurs du burnout parental. Les outils de guidance parentale s'appuient sur l'élaboration à titre individuel, des stratégies de style de coping productif et à titre collectif, d'outils psychoéducatifs à travers des thérapies de groupe iblées. Les complications majeures du burnout parental sont un faible niveau d'empathie, des risques de négligences et maltraitances pour l'enfant, consommations de toxiques et évolution vers un syndrome dépressif caractérisé. Les interventions s'inscrivent dans une approche intégrative, globale et développementale en pédopsychiatrie et ont pour finalité, amélioré la qualité de vie des membres du système familial.
