Book Synopsis Integrated Management of Fruit Crops and Forest Nematodes by : Aurelio Ciancio
Download or read book Integrated Management of Fruit Crops and Forest Nematodes written by Aurelio Ciancio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-15 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series originated during a visit of prof. K. G. Mukerji to the CNR Plant Protection Institute at Bari, Italy, in November 2005. Both editors convened to produce a series of five volumes focusing, in a multi-disciplinary approach, on recent advances and achievements in the practice of crop protection and integrated pest and disease management. This fourth Volume deals with management of nematodes parasitic of tree crops, and includes a section on tropical fruit crops and commodities, as well as a second section on tree crops from more temperate areas. The latter also includes a chapter updating the current knowledge about the pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. Volume 4 flanks Volume 2 of this IMPD series, which focused on management of vegetable and grain crops nematodes. Nematodes are a very successful, diversified and specialised animal group, present in nature in any ecological niche. Among nematode species, only a reduced number feeds on plants, of which a few species cause severe economic impacts on crop productions. Plant parasitic nematodes represent an important concern for a broad range of agricultural productions and systems, worldwide. This statement explains the attention devoted in last decades to nematodes, and the research and technical efforts invested for their control.

This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Integrated Pest Management IPM is an ecosystem approach to managing pests through understanding the crop ecosystem as a basis of good crop management decisions and support the sustainable intensification of crop production and pesticide risk reduction. Often, low levels of populations of some pests are needed to keep natural enemies in the field and the aim of IPM is to reduce pest populations to avoid damage levels that cause yield loss. The IPM is still directly associated with pests and defined as a knowledge-intensive process of decision making that combines various strategies (biological, cultural, physical and chemical, regular field monitoring of the crops etc.) that focuses on reduction of pesticide use to sustainably manage dangerous pests. This book is intended to guide farmers in the integrated management of pest and diseases, helping them with decision making. It provides a description of the most dangerous pests and diseases, including symptoms, possible location, types of plants, biology as well as ways of monitoring. It also describes the main components of specific Integrated Pest Management.
Book Synopsis Phenology: An Integrative Environmental Science by : Mark D. Schwartz
Download or read book Phenology: An Integrative Environmental Science written by Mark D. Schwartz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phenology refers to recurring plant and animal life cycle stages, such as leafing and flowering, maturation of agricultural plants, emergence of insects, and migration of birds. It is also the study of these recurring events, especially their timing and relationships with weather and climate. Phenological phenomena all give a ready measure of the environment as viewed by the associated organism, and are thus ideal indicators of the impact of local and global changes in weather and climate on the earth’s biosphere. Assessing our changing world is a complex task that requires close cooperation from experts in biology, climatology, ecology, geography, oceanography, remote sensing, and other areas. Like its predecessor, this second edition of Phenology is a synthesis of current phenological knowledge, designed as a primer on the field for global change and general scientists, students, and interested members of the public. With updated and new contributions from over fifty phenological experts, covering data collection, current research, methods, and applications, it demonstrates the accomplishments, progress over the last decade, and future potential of phenology as an integrative environmental science.
