Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade almost all developing countries have established energy planning activities in response to the grave problems that have arisen as a result of the drastic increase in energy prices, of the burden of energy related investment debt service, and of the problems of deforestation. Although the insti tutional and organizational responses are quite varied, it is largely engineers and economists who have been called upon to provide the necessary analytical capability to support policy decisions in the energy area. However, as evidenced by the recent participants in the Energy Management Training Program (EMTP), many of the analytical techniques now regarded as appropriate go beyond the usual background of those who are now assigned to such tasks. Indeed, this monograph is based on the material presented in the first ·part of the course, whose purpose is to bring the often diverse group to some common ground. Some of the material, such as Chapter 4 on the basics of energy pricing, is intended primarily for engineers. Other sections, such as Chapter 2 on energy balances, is primarily a vehicle for a discussion of the problems of units and differences in approach by different international bodies. The intent, then, is to provide in a single work a primer on a large number of different analytical tools.

Book Synopsis Integrated Spatial and Energy Planning by : Gernot Stoeglehner
Download or read book Integrated Spatial and Energy Planning written by Gernot Stoeglehner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-02 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on spatial planning – an important determinant of energy saving and renewable energy supply. Revealing the key driving forces for spatial development supporting the shift towards energy efficiency and renewable energy supplies, it shows the importance of integrated spatial and energy planning approaches for a timely and sustainable change of energy systems, thus supporting policies of climate protection. As operating within the context of renewable energy sources is becoming a major policy issue at the international, European and national level, spatial dimensions of renewable energy systems as well as challenges, barriers and opportunities in different spatial contexts become more important. This book analyses not only the fundamental system interrelations between resources, technologies and consumption patterns with respect to energy, but also the links to the spatial context, and provides guidelines for researchers as well as practitioners in this new, emerging field. It presents innovative analytical tools to solve real-world problems and discusses the most important fields of action in integrated spatial and energy planning including planning contents, planning visions and principles as well as planning process design and planning methodology.
Book Synopsis Energy Analysis and Policy by : Mohan Munasinghe
Download or read book Energy Analysis and Policy written by Mohan Munasinghe and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Analysis and Policy: Selected Works discusses the major aspect of electricity economics, including pricing, demand forecasting, investment analysis, and system reliability. This book provides a clear and comprehensive overview of the diversity of problems in analyzing energy markets and designing sound energy policies. Organized into 14 chapters, this book first discusses the energy economics in developing countries; integrated national energy planning (INEP) in developing countries; energy pricing; practical application of INEP using microcomputers; and energy strategies for oil-importing developing countries. Subsequent chapters describe the energy demand management and conservation; national energy policy implementation; energy demand analysis and forecasting; and energy project evaluation and planning. Other chapters explore non-conventional energy project analysis and national energy policy; rural energy issues and supply options; and bioenergy management policy. Rural-industrial energy and fossil fuel issues, as well as energy R&D decision-making in developing countries, are also presented. As the issues in this book are very important, this book will be helpful to a wide and appreciative audience.

This book was released on 1989-12-01 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summarizing a workshop on energy systems planning for developing countries, this workshop provides a fair survey on the state-of-the-art planning approaches and methodologies including some basic introduction into mathematical modelling, without going into technical detail applied operations research methods suitable for developing countries are presented. Conventional planning methods complement the workshop material. It provides a comprehensive survey on energy planning for educational purposes.
Book Synopsis Energy Policy Analysis and Modelling by : Mohan Munasinghe
Download or read book Energy Policy Analysis and Modelling written by Mohan Munasinghe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-08-26 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy plays a vital role in economic and social development. The analysis of energy issues and policy options is therefore a vital area of study. This book presents a hierarchical modelling scheme intended to support energy planning and policy analysis in developing countries. The authors introduce the concept of 'Integrated National energy Planning' (INEP), and examine the spreadsheet models, optimization models, and linear planning models which energy planners use. Environmental considerations are also introduced into the analysis. Techniques are then applied to two important energy subsectors, electricity and fuelwood, before problems of integration and policy implementation are discussed. Throughout the book, the authors examine actual practice in developing countries. Illustrative case material is drawn from Egypt, West Africa, Sudan, Pakistan, Colombia, India, Sri Lanka and Morocco. This book will be of interest to students and practitioners of energy planning, and to those concerned with the wider development implications of energy policy.

Download or read book Energy Pricing And Demand Management written by Mohan Munasinghe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Munasinghe emphasizes the importance of coordinated energy planning and pricing in less developed countries with particular reference to the interrelationships among the pricing policies adopted in various energy subsectors--electric power, petroleum, natural gas, coal, and traditional fuels (e.g., firewood, crop residues, and dung). In less developed countries the already complex problems typically faced by energy planners are exacerbated by high levels of market distortion, shortages of foreign exchange and resources for development, large numbers of poor households whose basic needs must be met, reliance on traditional fuels, and a relative paucity of energy data. The principal investment issues surrounding energy planning and the extent to which they influence pricing policy are also discussed.

Book Synopsis Economic Policies for Sustainable Development by : Thomas Sterner
Download or read book Economic Policies for Sustainable Development written by Thomas Sterner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-01-31 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on describing policy instruments in different countries. Its purpose is not only descriptive but also, to some extent, advocatory. We believe that economic instruments can make an important contribution to an environmentally less disruptive path of development. The design of economic instruments is however a fine art and depends among other things on their political acceptability and this acceptability is of course influenced by experience. It is therefore important to provide information on the use of policy instruments in other countries. Policies are currently developing quite fast and thus a book such as this one can inevitably not capture more than a "snapshot" view at a single moment of time. We would hope that the book encourages more experimentation with economic instruments and that countries will make a fuller use of the whole arsenal of economic policy instruments. If the book does succeed in this sense then it will soon become dated as policies change -but that would be a price well worth paying! The book combines a dozen country monographs together with a few international surveys on particular topics (gasoline pricing, vehicle regulations, acid rain, deforestation and global warming). These papers are intended to illustrate the diversity of policy options available. The actual policies adopted depend on economic as well as ecological conditions. The country studies cover two "Western" countries and then concentrate on formerly planned and developing countries. They show that economic instruments are still generally thought of as new and innovative.
