Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Computer Science - Internet, New Technologies, , language: English, abstract: This paper is an attempt to review the implications of the implementation of 'KYAN' in the different districts of West Bengal and unfold the issues and challenges the Govt. has been facing in the implementation of 'KYAN'. The Government of West Bengal has been implementing Sarva Shiksha Abhiya since its inception. To optimize its impact, the State Government is combining Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Tools for Education Programme in the primary and secondary Government schools. Integration of the ICT in education projects popularly called Technology in Education (TIE) is generally used to familiarize students with the use and workings of computers as well as leverage the power of the ICT for teaching conventional subjects that get registered more effectively compared to conventional teaching-leaning method. The integrated approach of Technology in Education (TIE) has prerequisites such as use of technology by students to create learning artefacts, integrating technology with curriculum, focused learning achievement and teacher designed instruction. The Department of Education, Govt. of West Bengal introduced Technology in Education (TIE) system titled 'KYAN' (Vehicle of Knowledge) to utilize ICT tools and ensure sustainability. KYAN, modelled on best principles of TIE, was developed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, as a Community Computer. The device contains a computer with inbuilt projector, content, speakers, and has wireless keyboard and mouse. It combines the computing power of a computer with an appropriate high luminosity, high resolution, and large screen projection system. The project has resulted in significant improvement in the class-room teaching learning practices apart from improving the morale of teachers; enhance attendance, improved retention of the core academic concepts as well as better recall, improvement in the examinations results etc..

Book excerpt: This book comprehensively covers the evolution of advanced learning pedagogy and innovative technologies like open educational resources and blended learning models. It specifically talks about the future of technology-enhanced learning and how advanced technology and government policies together are trying to impact learning outcomes globally. Nowadays in a flexible learning environment, technology plays a significant role in higher education systems. Both educators and students are playing prominent roles in its successful implementation. Advanced learning pedagogy by using technology has not only changed teaching procedures but has also evolved the relationship among multiple stakeholders. The content of the book is neatly segregated into four parts. Part I covers the concept and evolution of digital learning and education technology. This part examines the role of technology in higher education and proposes a toolkit for personalized learning and continuous assessment. Parts II and III creatively represent the innovative teaching techniques and learning models under advance learning pedagogy. Chapters under parts II and III are specially designed to present the more simplistic view of various technology-based advanced learning models and resources like flipped classes, gaming designs for e-learning, etc. Part III of the book also extensively covers various case studies/instructor’s stories of technology enabled learning experiences. Part IV focuses on the evaluation of advance learning pedagogy and tools. It also covers the future of information in learning (like formative analytics) and improved learning outcomes using technology and government initiatives in the form of various future oriented education policies like the Digital Action Education Plan (2021–2027). The wide-ranging content also covers the challenges of implementation of advanced learning pedagogy and offers recommendations to overcome such challenges. The book will grab the attention of the modern (IT-enabled) instructor’s fraternity, and students and researchers in the area of technology and education. The book can be further used by policymakers and educational-technology startups to formulate and design technology-based higher education teaching policies and procedures which are indeed helpful in measuring learning outcomes.

Book excerpt: This book presents insights into the current state of higher education, emerging pedagogies and innovative technology-driven learning techniques in research and teaching. Focussing specifically on the higher education models in India and Australia, the volume explores concerns and policy interventions that will help promote research capability and culture. Globalisation, rise of information technology and the massification of education has shifted the foundations of higher education and universities in the world. This volume examines the best support structures that will allow educators to face the challenge of the increasingly diverse community of learners and teachers entering higher education; their varied levels of aspirations and expectations; the influence of technology in pedagogical practices; and the shrinking funds for teaching and research. By using case studies from India and Australia the book also looks at the benefits of cross-cultural collaborations in research and education. Comprehensive and resourceful, this volume will be useful for academics and scholars of education, higher education and research, sociology, public policy, development studies and for NGOs and think tanks working in these areas.
