Book excerpt: Unique neurointerventional surgery resource analyzes landmark literature to inform optimal patient management The field of neurointerventional surgery is rapidly expanding with an ever-accelerating pace of technological innovations. While industry plays a significant role in designing new technology and defining indications for its use, practitioners need to evaluate and determine the most efficacious treatments for their patients. Neurointerventional Surgery: An Evidence-Based Approach by renowned endovascular neurosurgeons Min Park, M. Yashar S. Kalani, and Michael F. Stiefel examines the most common disease states in neurointerventional surgery through a critical lens. The unique text leverages evidenced-based data to inform treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes. The text is organized by 5 sections and 32 chapters, including the latest state-of-the-art interventions. Each of the chapters provides critical analysis of the "landmark papers" that established the foundation and standards for modern neurointerventional practice. An example is the rapidly changing understanding of large vessel occlusions in ischemic stroke that now strongly supports mechanical thrombectomy as a viable and important part of the treatment armamentarium. Key Highlights Contributions from internationally recognized leaders in academic neurointerventional surgery provide insightful and analytic perspectives Encompasses the full continuum of neurointerventional procedures in one resource, from hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke to neoplasms and spine conditions The reader-friendly structure and chapter formatting facilitates understanding of often complicated decision-making The evidenced-based, multifaceted approach to neurointerventional surgery presented in this textbook makes it vital reading for residents, fellows, and practitioners in neurosurgery, as well as fellows in interventional neuroradiology and interventional neurology. Book Synopsis New Insights into the Treatment of Aneurysms with Flow Diverters: Novel Indications and Therapeutic Advances by : Yu Zhou
Download or read book New Insights into the Treatment of Aneurysms with Flow Diverters: Novel Indications and Therapeutic Advances written by Yu Zhou and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the publications of the International subarachnoid aneurysm trial (ISAT), endovascular treatment has become one of the most important treatments of intracranial aneurysms, and was used more and more in clinic settings. However, intracranial complex aneurysms (such as giant aneurysms, wide-necked aneurysms, fusiform aneurysms and dissecting aneurysms) still impose a huge challenge for clinicians. Flow diverter (FD) is a novel device for the treatment of aneurysms based on the understanding of hemodynamic mechanism of aneurysm occlusion. It could divert the blood flow from the aneurysm neck, and promote aneurysm occlusion without inserting coils into the aneurysms. In addition, the FDs had the advantage of simplifying the procedure and relieving the mass effect.

Download or read book 12 Strokes written by Ferdinand K. Hui and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive, case-based resource provides the state-of-the-art knowledge that can help readers improve access and optimize delivery of stroke thrombectomy. Improving access to stroke is of particular importance because patients often misinterpret their symptoms or cannot speak for themselves if they have aphasia. More importantly, access needs to be organized because stroke therapies are all extremely time-sensitive. Scalable, choreographed protocols are necessary for emergency medical systems to ‘capture’ stroke patients and automatically transport and triage to time-sensitive treatments. Many of the chapters in the first section on Fundamentals and Systems provide valuable insight in improving access to stroke care. Replete with illustrative case studies and emphasizing that treatment approaches to stroke should not be comprised of a one-size-fits-all approach, this illuminating title provides the complete thought, detail, insight and organization that will help readers meet the needs of stroke patients with large vessel occlusions. 12 Strokes: A Case-based Guide to Acute Ischemic Stroke Management examines the primary technical principles that underlie the current thrombectomy approaches. Instead of continuing the conceptual dichotomy of stent vs. aspiration, many of the chapters look at underlying principles and then discuss ways in which the currently available devices and approaches can best exploit them. The variety, creativity and detail in many of these chapters will help the reader develop a deeper understanding that might assist their ability to successfully take care of their next patient that ‘doesn’t follow the textbook.’ In addition, the anatomic and pathophysiologic classification of the core Twelve Chapters will help readers organize their thinking and approach. This knowledge, particularly because it is organized based on common, challenging syndromes, will arm the reader to quickly recognize patterns and deftly adapt their management approaches to the needs of the patient. An invaluable contribution to the clinical literature, 12 Strokes: A Case-based Guide to Acute Ischemic Stroke Management will be of great interest to not only neurosurgeons and neurologists but other specialists, primary care providers, and trainees as well.
