Book Synopsis Analyzing the Distributional Impact of Reforms, 2 by : Aline Coudouel
Download or read book Analyzing the Distributional Impact of Reforms, 2 written by Aline Coudouel and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The analysis of the distributional impact of policy reforms on the well-being or welfare of different stakeholder groups, particularly on th e poor and vulnerable, has an important role in the elaboration and implementation of poverty reduction strategies in developing countries. In recent years this type of work has been labeled as Poverty and Social Impact Analysis (PSIA) and is increasingly implemented to promote evidence-based policy choices and foster debate on policy reform options. While information is available on the general approach, techniques, and tools for distributional analysis, each sector displays a series of specific characteristics. These have implications for the analysis of distributional impacts, including the types of impacts and transmission channels that warrant particular attention, the tools and techniques most appropriate, the data source typically utilized, and the range of political economy factors most likely to affect the reform process. This volume provides an overview of the specific issues arising in the analysis of the distributional impacts of policy and institutional reforms in selected sectors. Each chapter offers guidance on the selection of tools and techniques most adapted to the reforms under scrutiny, and offers examples of applications of these approaches. This is a companion to the first volume, which offers guidance on trade, monetary and exchange rate policy, utility provision, agricultural markets, land policy, and education."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central aim of The Industrial Experience of Tanzania is to explain why the Tanzanian manufacturing sector experienced a long period of stagnation after an initial phase of rapid industrial growth. Tanzania has been an extreme case with a high level of state intervention, but the contributors show that there are lessons to be learnt here for African economies in general. The analysis includes previously unpublished data, and presents important conceptual and methodological advances.

This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For both public and private managers, the book Optimization Methods for a Stakeholder Society is today's key to answer the problem of a sustainable development world. This world has to take into account the meaning of all stakeholders involved and has to reconcile a number of objectives, such as economic growth, employment and preservation of the ecosystem. Traditional methods, such as cost-benefit, are outmoded as they translate all these objectives into monetary costs, a materialistic approach. On the contrary, objectives have rather to stick to their own units, eventually indicators.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of Economies in Transformation No. 19. Provides comprehensive data for evaluating market reforms in the states of the former Soviet Union. This is the fourth annual compilation of statistical data on the rapidly evolving economies of the former Soviet Union (FSU). It is an indispensable reference, providing even more comprehensive data than the 1994 handbook for evaluating market reforms in the FSU. It converts economic data used by socialist systems to the market-based system of national accounts and incorporates new national currencies in the data. The volume contains both English and Russian versions of the text. Decisionmakers have easy access to key statistics on the 15 independent states through the handbook's comparative tables, which provide cross-country data arranged by subject. Topics include production rates, human resources, and external trade. Country tables give detailed information on essential statistical indicators such as public finance, monetary statistics, employment, and labor. Technical notes and a detailed annex give helpful background information on the statistics. A complete bibliography is provided.
Book Synopsis 2015 Social Accounting Matrix for Tanzania: A Nexus Project SAM by : Randriamamonjy, Josée
Download or read book 2015 Social Accounting Matrix for Tanzania: A Nexus Project SAM written by Randriamamonjy, Josée and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is used to document the different steps followed to construct the 2010/11 Social Accounting Matrix for Ethiopia. The SAM is an extension of the Standard Nexus Structure. It consists of 63 activity sectors, 67 commodity sectors, three types of factors of production: labor (rural and urban disaggregated by level of education), land, and capital (disaggregated by crops, livestock, mining and other sectors). The household sector is divided spatially into urban and rural households. Rural households are further disaggregated into households that earn crop and/or livestock incomes (i.e., farm households) and those that do no earn incomes from either source (i.e., nonfarm households). Households are further disaggregated into per capita expenditure quintiles. This SAM allows analyzing issues at the detailed level and to better understand the potential impacts of policy changes for both better off and more vulnerable households.
Book Synopsis Efficiency of Public Spending in Developing Countries by : Santiago Herrera
Download or read book Efficiency of Public Spending in Developing Countries written by Santiago Herrera and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Government spending in developing countries typically account for between 15 and 30 percent of GDP. Hence, small changes in the efficiency of public spending could have a major impact on GDP and on the attainment of the government ' s objectives. The first challenge that stakeholders face is measuring efficiency. This paper attempts such quantification and has two major parts. The first part estimates efficiency as the distance between observed input-output combinations and an efficiency frontier (defined as the maximum attainable output for a given level of inputs). This frontier is estimated for several health and education output indicators by means of the Free Disposable Hull (FDH) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) techniques. Both input-inefficiency (excess input consumption to achieve a level of output) and output-inefficiency (output shortfall for a given level of inputs) are scored in a sample of 140 countries using data from 1996 to 2002. The second part of the paper seeks to verify empirical regularities of the cross-country variation in efficiency. Results show that countries with higher expenditure levels register lower efficiency scores, as well as countries where the wage bill is a larger share of the government ' s budget. Similarly, countries with higher ratios of public to private financing of the service provision score lower efficiency, as do countries plagued by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and those with higher income inequality. Countries with higher aid-dependency ratios also tend to score lower in efficiency, probably due to the volatility of this type of funding that impedes medium term planning and budgeting. Though no causality may be inferred from this exercise, it points at different factors to understand why some countries might need more resources than others to achieve similar educational and health outcomes.
