Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of crucial economic and societal importance, process industries transform matter by chemical, physical or biological means. They cover broad fields such as chemistry, oil, pharmacy, metallurgy and agri-food, to name a few. As a result of knowledge exchange between the academic and industrial worlds, Process Industries 1 decrypts the operations and technical management of these industries in order to formulate and manufacture products with use-value, in a sustainable way. Using concrete examples, this book presents the fundamentals for defining the reaction and purification conditions that form the basis of chemical engineering. The unit operations – the technological building blocks of the production units – are the subject of scientific and technical descriptions supplemented by numerous videos. Frameworks, written by well-known specialists, provide a deep understanding of topics related to these themes. Process Industries 1 is intended for students, teachers, professionals and decision-makers interested in learning more about these industries.

Process Engineering Renewal 2 focuses on research in process engineering, which is partly overshadowed by the sciences that contribute to its development. The external constraints of this interface science must be seen in relation to conservation, sustainable development, global warming, etc., which are linked to current success and the difficulty of taking risks in research.

Download or read book Knowledge Production Modes between Science and Applications 1 written by Jean-Claude Andre and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-02-28 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inventing isn’t easy! In this book, twelve “valleys of death” are identified which, following a linear approach, correspond to the various obstacles that limit the various passages from an original idea to invention, and then to industrial innovation. These various limiting factors have a variety of origins: disciplined scientific training, weak general and scientific culture, New Public Management, hierarchical support, funding, evaluation, proof of concepts, complexity management, and heuristic and interdisciplinary approaches on the one hand, and attractiveness for the new on the other. After an idea is formulated, these contexts bring small elements of science into play, but above all human aspects ranging from motivation and the quality of exchanges to responsibility. In short, it is a possible dynamic way of living together to promote innovations stemming from science. This is not easy, but if the invention is profitable for society, the downstream sector can greatly facilitate the various stages of commercialization.

This book was released on 2024-07-23 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faced with the scale and intensity of the ecological crisis, environmental transition is underway, consisting of a first phase of technological mutation, aimed at replacing technologies harmful to the environment with those which have no destructive effects on the earth system and its equilibrium. This book examines the roots of the concept of environmental transition, identifying and characterizing the negative effects of technology on the environmental crisis. We will then identify the technological mutations that have the potential to contribute to environmental transition, and demonstrate how these changes are already forming part of a new emerging "technological system". We will conclude by addressing the question of the limits of technological responses to the environmental crisis, demonstrating the importance of the dimensional factors of human activity and weight of growth in this crisis, thus raising the issue of global reconsideration, with reference to the place and articulation of human activity in the Earth system.

Book Synopsis Future of CO2 Capture, Transport and Storage Projects by : Jaleh Samadi
Download or read book Future of CO2 Capture, Transport and Storage Projects written by Jaleh Samadi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a summary of a three-year research project on risk management for the Capture, Transport and Storage of CO2 (CTSC), offering an in-depth study on complex sociotechnical systems and systemic modeling. Approaching CTSC as a complex sociotechnical system, this book proposes systemic modeling as a decision-making aid. It offers a means of decision-making for the development of CTSC projects in the real-world context, where the future of the technology is uncertain. Risk management is considered as a means of control that can provide a control structure for the whole system. The risks associated with CTSC are not exclusively technical in nature; CTSC also faces a number of further uncertainties, from development to commercial scales. A major question concerning CTSC at the current scale of development is: "What are the factors explaining the success or failure of CTSC projects in different contexts?" In order to answer this question, the book proposes a systemic risk management framework based on the system dynamics and STAMP (Systems-Theoretic Accident Model and Processes) concepts.
