Book Synopsis Wildlife Law, Second Edition by : Eric T. Freyfogle
Download or read book Wildlife Law, Second Edition written by Eric T. Freyfogle and published by Island Press. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wildlife is an important and cherished element of our natural heritage in the United States. But state and federal laws governing the ways we interact with wildlife can be complex to interpret and apply. Ten years ago, Wildlife Law: A Primer was the first book to lucidly explain wildlife law for readers with little or no legal training who needed to understand its intricacies. Today, navigating this legal terrain is trickier than ever as habitat for wildlife shrinks, technology gives us new ways to seek out wildlife, and unwanted human-wildlife interactions occur more frequently, sometimes with alarming and tragic outcomes. This revised and expanded second edition retains key sections from the first edition, describing basic legal concepts while offering important updates that address recent legal topics. New chapters cover timely issues such as private wildlife reserves and game ranches, and the increased prominence of nuisance species as well as an expanded discussion of the Endangered Species Act, now more than 40 years old. Chapter sidebars showcase pertinent legal cases illustrating real-world application of the legal concepts covered in the main text. Accessibly written, this is an essential, groundbreaking reference for professors and students in natural resource and wildlife programs, land owners, and wildlife professionals.

Book excerpt: This poignant debut novel in verse is a portrait of healing, as a young girl rediscovers life and the soothing power of nature after being freed from her abusive father. For most of her life, Lacey has been a prisoner without even realizing it. Her dad rarely let her, her little sister, or her mama out of his sight. But their situation changes suddenly and dramatically the day her grandparents arrive to help them leave. It’s the beginning of a different kind of life for Lacey, and at first she has a hard time letting go of her dad’s rules. Gradually though, his hold on her lessens, and her days become filled with choices she’s never had before. Now Lacey can take pleasure in sketching the world as she sees it in her nature journal. And as she spends more time outside making things grow and creating good memories with family and friends, she feels her world opening up and blossoming into something new and exciting.

This book was released on 2024-01-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China’s surface waters cover 20.6 million ha. The aquatic living resources in these waters not only sustain wild natural fishery production, but also support fish production based on stock enhancement and aquaculture. Most inland capture fisheries are concentrated in the major rivers and lakes, whereas reservoirs are dominated by enhanced fisheries. In 2020, the national freshwater fishing output was 1.46 million tonnes, which was a decrease of 20.84 percent from the previous year. Since 2005, the output value of freshwater capture fishing and aquatic products in China has exceeded CNY 20 billion, reaching a peak of CNY 46.577 billion in 2018. With increasing economic development, the role of inland capture fisheries in the social economy has changed. Since the 1990s, there has been a gradual increase in aquaculture and since 2010 a gradual decrease in inland capture fishery production. With the issuance of various fishing ban policies and the strengthening of enforcement actions, especially the implementation of the “10-year fishing ban” on the Yangtze River and the fishing ban on major lakes, inland capture fisheries production has dropped sharply since 2016 and this development is expected to continue due to the increased awareness of the need for ecological protection in large waterbodies, the implementation of the fishing ban policy and the strengthening of law enforcement. However, even though aquaculture production has massively increased and provides the bulk of freshwater fish supply, high-quality aquatic products from natural waters are still highly sought after by consumers.
