Download or read book Computer Communications And Networks, 2nd Edition written by J Freer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-01-29 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a practical introduction to the key computing concepts of networks and communications, suitable for a first year undergraduate or industrial course. It provides the foundational knowledge on which to build a fully developed understanding of modern communications methodologies, techniques and standards. It will also be a useful professional reference companion.; The book begins with a general introduction to data communications and the options commonly open to the system designer. It then provides overviews of the key areas in which design decisions must be made: communication media; interface standards; network architectures; modems and multiplexers; network topologies, switching and access control; local area networks; wide-area networks; performance; software issues; security; and implementation.; As a second edition of an established text the book has been thoroughly revised and improved but retains the strengths of the first edition in its clear and well- illustrated exposition. It includes current developments in standards and architecture including ATM, B-ISDN, SNMP, TCP/IP, and other state-of-the- art features of the computer communications world.; In its first edition the book was an authoritative textbook and personal reference for industry. In this new edition it should be even more essential for all with a need for an accessible modern technical introduction to computer communications and networks. Suitable for a practically orientated computer science course at degree level or for an introductory industrial course.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: Computer Communications "Although the concept of ISDN has been with us now for over a decade, and much development work has been carried out du- ring this period, there are very few comprehensive books available on the subject. This is perhaps one of the best of them. The book aims to provide engineers and potential engi- neers with an overview of the requirements and features of ISDN that will be useful in thedesign, construction and operation of such systems. The author and his six collabora- tors have succeeded in this respect, producing a readable, yet thorough, technical book that can be recommended to a wider audience... Throughout the book the explanations are enhanced byclear, well-presented, relevant diagrams, and there is a very use- ful annex on the full set of standards relating to ISDN. This is a good book that will definitely be used as a refe- rence over the next few years by many engineers working in the area..." IEEE Computer "ISDN is a slimbut very effective book dealing with almost every aspect of the evolution ofpublic communications net- works...I highly recommend this book to engineerswho are new either to the field of ISDN or to specific ISDN topics. It is clear, concise, and is excellent padding for those tackling the CCITT recommendations."

Book Synopsis Digital Satellite Communications Systems and Technologies by : A. Nejat Ince
Download or read book Digital Satellite Communications Systems and Technologies written by A. Nejat Ince and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the space activities of the last three decades satellite communications (SATCOM) has found the widest application in meeting both civil and military communications requirements. Several international, regional and national SATCOM systems of increasing capacity, capability and complexity have been and are being implemented over the years. The latest versions are utilizing such concepts as spot beams, processing transponders in SS-TDMA and operations in different frequency bands including the EHF band. On the military side, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France and NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) have been the only owners and operators of military SATCOM systems in the West. The systems in being and under development use satellites and ground terminals with characteristics which differ from the civilian ones with respect to frequency bands utilised and survivability and interoperability. The SATCOM has given the military users the potential of having much-needed mobility, flexibility and survivability in strategic and tactical communications for land, sea and air operations. It must, however, be said particularly for the military SATCOM systems that they have been evolved in big jumps, both in time and capability, each jump involving the deployment of two or three often specially designed large satellites, large expenses and rather traumatic transition between jumps. Despite these undesirable features these systems did not have the required degree of suevivability and flexibility.

Book excerpt: One of the fastest expanding fields in computing and telecommunications is Open Systems Interconnection (O.S.I.). The requirement for computers to communicate with each other has led to a need for standardisation. This in turn has produced an array of international, national, semi-official and proposed standards, and an accompanying wealth of acronyms. The author has compiled this invaluable book to guide readers through the resulting maze.
