This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Hamilton Stanhope (1788-1825) was the youngest son of the third Earl Stanhope, half-brother to Lady Hester Stanhope and personally present at the deaths of both Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger in 1806 and General Sir John Moore in Corunna in 1809. After being seriously wounded in the later stages of the Peninsular War, he found happiness in his marriage, which was soon cut short when his wife died giving birth to their second child. Two years later, James committed suicide. This is the first biography of James Hamilton Stanhope, covering his childhood, his fascinating family, his letters and war diaries, his life after Waterloo, how he met his wife, their short but idyllic life together, and his tragic suicide. It also takes a close look at his literary works (all unpublished except for the war diary), and includes the first-ever edition of his lengthy poem on the death of Sir John Moore at Corunna and his brother Charles Banks Stanhope in the same battle.

Book Synopsis Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia by : Howard H. McCall
Download or read book Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia written by Howard H. McCall and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mrs. McCall's roster of Georgia soldiers in the Revolution was compiled over many years. The work as a whole is cumulative, with only slight, albeit significant, differences in the kinds of information which may be found in one volume versus another. Volume I of this work contains the records of hundreds of Revolutionary War soldiers and officers of Georgia, with genealogies of their families, and lists of soldiers buried in Georgia whose graves have been located. Volumes II and III are also published by Clearfield Company. The arrangement of Volume II is similar to that of Volume I; however, it contains records of officers and soldiers not only from Georgia but from other states, many of whose descendants later came to Georgia because of liberal land grants. Volume III, the longest of the work, is similar in scope to Volume II except that the majority of the entries are for Georgia officers and soldiers, with only some material relating to other states. The three volumes, each of which is indexed, refer to as many as 20,000 persons overall.
