The number of compounds and their many different applications begs the question, how can we teach all the knowledge to students? To meet with the needs of society, reform in biology teaching has taken place all over the world. However, we cannot teach students everything in this rapidly developing world. Accordingly, most academics agree that we should just teach students how to learn and apply biology. It is also the case that if people want to keep up with the development of knowledge, they should keep studying and assessing all their lives. However because the reformat has concentrated on knowledge structures, our teaching methods are still teacher-centered, not student-centered and do not encourage students to achieve lifelong learning and assessment. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between Teacher self-efficacy, interest, attitude, qualification, experience and pupils’ academic achievement in secondary school biology. The participants of the study comprises of 254 secondary school teachers and 120 secondary school students. Data collected on the study were analyzed using a stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results reveals that teacher self-efficacy and interest had significant correlation with students achievement scores. Teacher’s self-efficacy being the best predictor of students’ academic achievement in biology was followed by teacher’s interest. Attitude, qualification and experience were not significant correlation with pupil’s achievement in biology. The study recommended that it is high time for primary school biology teachers to have a change of attitude towards the teaching of the subject so that the achievement of universal basic education will not be hindered. Furthermore, primary school educational authorities were called upon to ensure that only teachers who are qualified to teach the subject are employed. Not these alone, their attention was also drawn to the fact that they should design educational programmes that will enhance the teacher self-efficacy for a better prediction of pupils’ achievement in Biology.

The theoretical framework of this study was derived from functionalist and learning theories. The Data for this study was collected from primary and secondary sources. The research instruments were questionnaires for students and parents, interview schedules for parents and teachers and parent-child relationship scale for students. The study population comprised of 1804 students, 80 parents representatives and 51 teachers. A correlation research design was adopted based on a sample drawn from five secondary schools in the study area. Purposive sampling was used to select a sample 18 teachers and 36 parents while stratified random sampling was used in the selection of 180 students. Spearman Brown Prophesy coefficient formula was used to test the internal consistency of questionnaires and interview schedules after piloting had been done. The study conclude that Scarcity of qualified Science subjects’ teachers and inadequate availability of teaching and learning materials are the major factors influencing poor performance in science subjects in secondary schools in Shinyanga municipality. The study recommends the following; the ministry should ensure enough availability of qualified science subjects’ teachers in secondary schools, and to make sure there is availability of adequate teaching and learning materials like books, teaching aids, specimens, chemicals and laboratory apparatuses, with conducive learning and friendly environment at schools.

Hierarchical linear modeling was used with a sample of 384 5 th and 6 th grade students to examine how between student demographic and interpersonal factors influence within student growth in math achievement assessed at three times. Students who reported higher rates of negative peer interactions showed less growth in achievement, particularly boys. Positive teacher interactions were associated with math achievement growth only among special education students. In addition, students' grade, minority status, special education status, and disruptive behavior were associated with lower starting achievement level while sixth graders and girls demonstrated less achievement growth. Intervention implications and future research directions are discussed.

The instrument used was a self-designed questionnaire with test re-test reliability coefficient of 0.89. Data collected were analyzed using percentage, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics. The findings of the study revealed that continuous assessment helps students to remember what has been learned, to concentrate effort on difficult areas of subject and helps identify their areas of strengths and weaknesses. It was also found that there was no significant difference in the teacher’s view of influence continuous assessment to students’ academic achievement based on gender and educational qualification.

The study also examined the differences of teacher collegiality, organizational commitment, and professional commitment in high-achieving and low-achieving schools. The effects of teacher personal variables (e.g. gender, educational level, and professional experience) on teacher collegiality, organizational commitment, and professional commitment were also investigated. A teacher collegiality scale (TCS) was developed and tested using exploratory and confirmatory factor analytic techniques. The final TCS comprised seven dimensions, namely (1) Demonstrating Mutual Support and Trust, (2) Observing one another Teaching, (3) Joint Planning and Assessment, (4) Sharing Ideas and Expertise, (5) Teaching each other, (6) Developing Curriculum together, and (7) Sharing Resources. The instruments of organizational commitment and professional commitment were adapted from Meyer, Allen, and Smith (1993). The survey instrument, comprising the TCS and Commitment Scale was distributed to a sample of 364 secondary school teachers in eight high-achieving and nine low-achieving schools located in Islamabad. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to assess the impact of teacher collegiality on teachers' organizational and professional commitment. Latent Mean Structure Analysis was used to determine the differences in teacher collegiality and teacher commitment between high-achieving and low-achieving school teachers. The effects of demographic variables on study main variables were analyzed using MANOVA. We hypothesized that learning disabilities could negatively affect academic achievement and social life in College regardless of gender or cultural background and that there exist factors that hinder them in their academic achievement and social life. After interviewing a convenient sample of four different students who share similar learning disabilities, we found out that three out of four LD students require extra time to study and understand. They achieve well in school. Their heavy course workload and the teaching methods used hinder them in their learning process. However, the learning centre and other academic services help LD students to improve their academic performance. Some interviewees claimed that being more outgoing and open-minded with their learning disabilities help them in their long-term social relationships.

It is therefore obvious that to understand the present, we must definitely know the past. It is only based on the knowledge of the past that we can predict the future and live fruitful lives based on the past circumstances. The primary aim of History teaching in Africa is to put the African child into the stream of History from which he has been absent for so long. People do not accord it the necessary attention it deserves. This is fundamentally due to the little importance attached to it. Consequently, students are not aware of their past and yet they seemed not to be perturbed. A questionnaire was administered to 180 respondents were randomly sampled from three High Schools in Cape Coast Municipality of Ghana. SPSS was used to conduct descriptive statistics on the data collected from the respondents. The results show that students offer history because of their interest in the subject. Their offering history has nothing to do with advice from parents, friends and its easiness as a subject of study. Unfortunately, the resources available in the three High schools are awfully inadequate. The predominant teaching method is a combination of lecture method, dictation of notes and the use of visual aids and the discussion method. However, another equally important methods such as excursion were not being employed in the teaching of history. This may be due to financial constraints and lack of cooperation from the schools' administration. It is therefore recommended that history as a subject should be made compulsory for at least a year in the High Schools. The government must also resource teachers to deliver the subjects using all the necessary teaching methods. Teachers of the subjects should also improvise in the face of lack of resources in teaching the subject.
