This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research and empirical work have revealed the importance of psychological/mental skills, factors, and strategies in improving athletic performance, especially in racket sports. High levels of self-confidence, commitment, motivation as well as the ability to imagine, self-regulate, set and achieved goals, control emotion, stress, and anxiety facilitate the ability of the racket sport players to achieve peak performance. For example, players and coaches recognize that the mental or psychological factor should be considered and trained in the same way as the technical or physical components. The aim of this Research Topic is to bring together articles in which psychological techniques, factors, or strategies are discussed, used, or tested in order to improve the performance of racket sport players such as tennis, table tennis, badminton, or squash, and also in new activities such as racketlon, paddle or beach tennis. Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to: • Mental training for racket sports; • The role of mental coach in racket sports; • Psychological strategies to improve the performance in racket sports; • Relationship between performance and psychological factors; • Applied performance enhancement by means of psychological technics; • Measures of psychological variables in racket sport players; • Training of psychological skills for performance improvement in racket sport.

Book Synopsis The Effects of Mental Imagery Practice on the Performance of Selected Psychomotor Tennis Skills of Postsecondary Students by : Bill Russell Gordon
Download or read book The Effects of Mental Imagery Practice on the Performance of Selected Psychomotor Tennis Skills of Postsecondary Students written by Bill Russell Gordon and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of mental imagery practice on the performance of selected psychomotor tennis skills of postsecondary students. The principal investigator/researcher conducted a quasi-experimental quantitative study involving a post hoc statistical analysis. The population included six beginning tennis activity classes, for a total of 138 subjects, who participated during the fall 2003 semester on the campus of a small, private midwestern university. The instrument used in this study was the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Tennis skills Test authored by Larry Hensley. This instrument was selected due to its exclusive design for the testing of tennis skills as well as validity and reliability. An alpha level of .05 was used for all analyses. The principal investigator/researcher conducted a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and paired t-tests to examine the mean changes among and within the three groups studied. The results of the study were the following: (a) the control group, Group 3, showed a significant difference between the pretest to posttest, however, not as significant as either Group 1 or Group 2; (b) the group that incorporated the practice of mental imagery prior to physical practice, Group 1, demonstrated a significant difference between the pretest to posttest, recording the highest gains among all groups tested; and (c) the group that incorporated the practice of mental imagery after physically practicing, Group 2, showed a significant difference-- more than Group 3 but less than Group 1. These results are supported by previous research study investigations. The results that both experimental groups employing the use of mental imagery practice in conjugation with physical practice are superior to physical practice alone, are congruent with the literature reviewed. The results that indicated Group 1 using mental imagery prior to physical practice as superior to Group 2 using mental imagery after physical practice and Group 3 physical practice only, can also be found in the literature"--Abstract.

Book Synopsis The Tennis Brain by : Federico Di Carlo
Download or read book The Tennis Brain written by Federico Di Carlo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-12-17 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most times, tennis players and athletes in general finish the competition unhappy about their performances. They feel that the potential was there, but a hidden force prevented them from achieving a feel-good performance. Performances, however, are never usually black and white. Most times athletes feel as though they were going through flows, flash-in/flash-out phases. Falls during performance are conventionally defined slumps and are among the most hated between athletes, above all when they feel that the main reason for slumps is not due to technical, tactical, or athletic flash-outs but rather to the mental components of the sport activity. In The Tennis Brain, you will find the following: Journey inside the processes and functions of the human brain Find a neuroscientific-based evidence for theories on the mind and conscious processes Discover why the game of tennis is so prone to mind influences Understand how the mind processes influence tennis game-specific situations Learn how to synchronize brain, body, and mind for best tennis in match performance. Book Endorsements: This work by Federico Di Carlo is a cornerstone among the contemporary research on cognitive neuroscience. The reader is introduced to the exploration and a step by step understanding of the brain and mind mechanisms. Through a fascinating journey in the world of tennis, the author motivates the reader to discover and change wrong behaviours in a positive way. This is a complete manual, useful to both tennis professionals and fans, as well as to anyone aspiring to achieve better results in the game of life (Renzo Ardiccioni, associate professor of communication, Universit du Maine, France). Drawing upon a great number of studies as well as on the authors personal experience, Tennis Brain brings together neurosciences and tennis practice, challenging the readers to critically reconsider some of their habits and beliefs. Di Carlo summarises the extensive research produced in the last three decades and makes it accessible to a wider audience, bringing our understanding of key mental aspects of tennis out of the realm of empirical opinions and into the realm of science and knowledge. Tennis Brain can actually guide the readers to develop their own critical thinking and to learn to improve(Alessandro Bruinen Serio, PhD, founder of RISED [Research for Integrative and Sustainable Development]). Since the first time we met, I was really impressed with Di Carlo well founded opinion, genuine love and immense enthusiasm for a neuroscientific driven tennis which comes out from every single page of The Tennis Brain. Starting from a presentation of the structural and physiological mechanisms of the nervous system and the psychological assets of the mind, Federico Di Carlo uses the tennis court to change the tennis player mind to a positive thinking and correct competitive mentality. For scientific consistency, I compared my thinking on the book with other readers and I received a similar feedback. The Tennis Brain actually might represent a benchmark in the developing field of cognitive neuroscience applied to sport coaching (Prof. Salvatore Guccione, Department of Drug Sciences, University of Catania).

Book Synopsis Effects of Same-day Strength Training on Serve Performance in Female Collegiate Tennis Players by : Staci Kayleen Reynolds
Download or read book Effects of Same-day Strength Training on Serve Performance in Female Collegiate Tennis Players written by Staci Kayleen Reynolds and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of same-day strength training on velocity and accuracy of a tennis serve among five female Division I intercollegiate athletes at the second and sixth week of a strength training program. Velocity and accuracy of 20 tennis serves were measured approximately four hours after a morning split-body (lower legs and trunk) strength training session termed the lift-day (LD) and were compared to measures taken on days that no lifting took place, termed the non-lift day (NLD). For each test day, velocity was multiplied by accuracy to provide an overall serve performance score for each NLD and LD. An ANOVA revealed that there was no significant difference in any of the measured variables between the NLD and the LD at any time period throughout the study. A mean serve performance score difference between NLD (77.56) and LD (78.05) of 0.49 was not statistically different [p = 0.84]. The results of this study suggest that female collegiate tennis players may strength-train with no significant effect on same-day serve performance following adequate recovery.
