Book Synopsis The Biblical Philosophy of History by : R. J. Rushdoony
Download or read book The Biblical Philosophy of History written by R. J. Rushdoony and published by Chalcedon Foundation. This book was released on 2009-11-16 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the orthodox Christian who grounds his philosophy of history on the doctrine of creation, the mainspring of history is God. Time rests on the foundation of eternity, on eternal decree of God. Time and history therefore have meaning because they were created in terms of God's perfect and totally comprehensive plan. The humanist faces a meaningless world in which he must strive to create and establish meaning. The Christian accepts a world which is totally meaningful and in which every event moves in terms of God's purpose; he submits to God's meaning and finds his life therein. This is an excellent introduction to Rushdoony. Once the reader sees Rushdoony's emphasis on God's sovereignty over all of time and creation, he will understand his application of this presupposition in various spheres of life and thought.

Book Synopsis Infant Baptism God's Ordinance by : Michael Harrison
Download or read book Infant Baptism God's Ordinance written by Michael Harrison and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2016-05-30 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is this just another book on infant baptism? No. It is possibly the best succinct, yet comprehensive work on the subject ever written by a puritan. It was originally a longer series of sermons that Harrison preached to his congregation, many of whom were Baptist at the time. At their request, he placed his thoughts into a concise treatise that covers all the main points needful in understanding the biblical position of infant inclusion in the Covenant of Grace, and infant baptism. Harrison’s work is so acute in its biblical presentation of the truth of Scripture that the reader cannot be but left in awe of his masterful exactitude to God’s mind on the issue of infant inclusion in the Covenant of Grace, and the application of the sign of the covenant to every visible member in the church. He gives the reader an introductory lesson on the Covenant of Grace and those parties involved by way of its membership, and then proceeds to teach the reader why infants are to be baptized. Harrison deals hermeneutically with 9 biblical arguments on the issue; two of which are his most important foundational chapters setting the stage for the rest of the book. He also shows the danger of shutting infants out of the kingdom of heaven, and answers all the main objections to Antipaedobaptist theology on the issue. He ends the work with a chapter on the right mode in which baptism should take place, along with a chapter on applying the truths of the study to the life of the members of the covenant community. Without sounding clichéd, this work is among the top works ever written on the subject, and in my estimation is irrefutable. The unbiased reader will have no issues with Harrison’s biblical exposition and logic driven inference. It is a powerhouse puritan work that every Paedobaptist ought to read for support, and every Antipaedobaptist ought to read to untangle their dispensational theology. Harrison says that Antipaedobaptism is “to be justly abhorred as false doctrine,” and proves this to the reader beyond a reasonable doubt. Book Synopsis A History of the Baptists Volumes I and II by : John T. Christian
Download or read book A History of the Baptists Volumes I and II written by John T. Christian and published by Solid Christian Books. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In attempting to write a history of the Baptists no one is more aware of the embarrassments surrounding the subject than the author. These embarrassments arise from many sources. We are far removed from many of the circumstances under survey; the representations of the Baptists were often made by enemies who did not scruple, when such a course suited their purpose, to blacken character; and hence the testimony from such sources must be received with discrimination and much allowance made for many statements; in some instances vigilant and sustained attempts were made to destroy every document relating to these people; the material that remains is scattered through many libraries and archives, in many lands and not always readily accessible; often, on account of persecutions, the Baptists were far more interested in hiding than they were in giving an account of themselves or their whereabouts; they were scattered through many countries, in city and cave, as they could find a place of concealment; and frequently they were called by different names by their enemies, which is confusing. Yet it is a right royal history they have. It is well worth the telling and the preserving.
Book Synopsis Infant Baptism of Christ’s Appointment by : Samuel Petto
Download or read book Infant Baptism of Christ’s Appointment written by Samuel Petto and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work by Samuel Petto is a theological study on baptism demonstrating that infant baptism is of Christ’s appointment. Petto shows the proof of infant baptism which stems from two arguments: the formula that Christ gave to baptize, and that infants are visibly in the Covenant. He gives solid biblical answers against a variety of objections, as well as demonstrating the validity of infant baptism from the biblical Reformed perspective. Then, he also defends his work against arguments given by a Baptist advocate in his day. He explains the biblical concepts of the Covenant of Grace, the infants’ right to the covenant and how objections against these two ideas is biblically unattainable. This is a masterful biblical and exegetical work from a renown covenant theologian.
