Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents controlling tools for management in order to be in a position to communicate with control engineers concerning technological decisions. The main objective of manufacturing management is to make profit. However, in traditional manufacturing systems none of the separate stages in the process support this objective. Management is not expert in any of these stages and therefore is dependent on specific experts at each stage and must follow their decisions. Each stage has its own first priority which is not profit and cost. This means that management does not have real control over these functional stages, nor over the process as a whole. This book presents controlling tools for management in order to allow them to communicate better with the experts of the particular manufacturing stages to reach better results and higher profits. It is shown that most enterprises can improve their efficiency rate by between 25 and 60% by using the tools developed here.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Process Engineering, the science and art of transforming raw materials and energy into a vast array of commercial materials, was conceived at the end of the 19th Century. Its history in the role of the Process Industries has been quite honorable, and techniques and products have contributed to improve health, welfare and quality of life. Today, industrial enterprises, which are still a major source of wealth, have to deal with new challenges in a global world. They need to reconsider their strategy taking into account environmental constraints, social requirements, profit, competition, and resource depletion. “Systems thinking” is a prerequisite from process development at the lab level to good project management. New manufacturing concepts have to be considered, taking into account LCA, supply chain management, recycling, plant flexibility, continuous development, process intensification and innovation. This book combines experience from academia and industry in the field of industrialization, i.e. in all processes involved in the conversion of research into successful operations. Enterprises are facing major challenges in a world of fierce competition and globalization. Process engineering techniques provide Process Industries with the necessary tools to cope with these issues. The chapters of this book give a new approach to the management of technology, projects and manufacturing. Contents Part 1: The Company as of Today 1. Book excerpt: This book deals with methodological issues in the field of management and industrial engineering. It aims to answer the following questions that researchers face every time they look to develop their research: How can we design a research project? What kind of paradigm should we follow? Should we develop a qualitative / phenomenological research or a quantitative / positivistic one? What technics for data collections can we use? Should we use the entire population or a sample? What kind of sampling techniques can we have? This book provides discussion and the exchange of information on principles, strategies, models, techniques, applications and methodological options possible to develop in research in management and industrial engineering. It communicates the latest developments and thinking on the research methodologies subject in the different areas, worldwide. It seeks cultural and geographic diversity in studies highlighting research methodologies that can be used in these different study areas. This book has a special interest in research on important issues that transcend the boundaries of single academic subjects. It presents contributions that challenge the paradigms and assumptions of individual disciplines or functions, with chapters grounded in conceptual and / or empirical literature. The main aim of this book is to provide a channel of communication to disseminate knowledge between academics and researchers, with a special focus on the management and industrial engineering fields. This book can serve as a useful reference for academics, researchers, managers, engineers, and other professionals in related matters with research methodologies. Contributors have identified the theoretical and practical implications of their methodological options to the development and improvement of their different study and research areas.

Book excerpt: This book describes the principles and techniques in Project Management as applied to Engineering & Construction Contracts (ECC), conforming with relevant international standards (PMI - IPMA - ISO 21500), and pursuing a fully company-wide, process-based, multi-project approach. Uniquely, the book combines Project Management fundamentals with international contracting practices, which shape the planning, design and construction of large and complex works (such as plants, machinery, infrastructures and buildings) worldwide. The rigorous academic approach is mixed with the managerial contributions of Danieli, one of the world’s top three suppliers of plants and equipment to the metals industry. The book has been updated to reflect the PMBOK 6th edition (September 2017), presents best practices in PM from around the globe, and addresses new trends in PM such as Agile, SCRUM, etc. Lastly, a dedicated section covers the professional use of the reference software Microsoft Project.

Through practical examples and case studies, Fayol explores topics such as organizational structure, division of labor, authority, and the role of managers. He advocates for a holistic approach to management that considers both technical and human aspects within an organization. Whether you’re a seasoned manager or a student of business, “General and Industrial Management” provides timeless wisdom and actionable strategies for achieving efficiency, productivity, and success in any organizational setting.
