Download or read book Reindustrializing New York State written by Morton Schoolman and published by Suny Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first study to comprehensively investigate economic revitalization strategies in a state economy that, until recently, had been the most powerful in the United States. In sixteen original essays, Reindustrializing New York State documents the state's long-term deindustrialization and examines and evaluates the policies initiated to reverse its decline. Pursuing an analysis of each of the strategies crucial to New York's economic redevelopment, the authors assess the significance of the state's policy actions and inactions, while focusing attention on problems and trends likely to pose formidable barriers to future growth. What crystallizes is the image of a state in passage to a radically different stage of political, social, and economic organization with new possibilities as well as new hazards.

Book Synopsis Authoritarian Modernization in Indonesia’s Early Independence Period by : Farabi Fakih
Download or read book Authoritarian Modernization in Indonesia’s Early Independence Period written by Farabi Fakih and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-09-07 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Authoritarian Modernization in Indonesia’s Early Independence Period, Farabi Fakih offers a historical analysis of the foundational years leading to Indonesia’s New Order state (1966-1998) during the early independence period. The study looks into the structural and ideological state formation during the so-called Liberal Democracy (1950-1957) and Sukarno’s Guided Democracy (1957-1965). In particular, it analyses how the international technical aid network and the dominant managerialist ideology of the period legitimized a new managerial elite. The book discusses the development of managerial education in the civil and military sectors in Indonesia. The study gives a strongly backed argument that Sukarno’s constitutional reform during the Guided Democracy period inadvertently provided a strong managerial blueprint for the New Order developmentalist state.

Book Synopsis Excellence and Equality by : David M. Fetterman
Download or read book Excellence and Equality written by David M. Fetterman and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1988-07-08 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fetterman focuses on what actually works in gifted and talented education programs. Complementing the psychological perspective on gifted and talented education, he adopts an anthropological point of view, using methods such as lengthy interviews with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and others involved in the school programs; daily observation; and group discussions to elicit the insiders perspective. A ground-breaking work, Fettermans timely study provides a comparative picture of over 433 gifted and talented programs in the United States, as well as programs in other countries. The authors cross-cultural perspective points up the need for U.S. educators to shake themselves out of a national complacency about the gifted and talented and stresses the importance of comparing our own efforts with those of other nations. In the process, Fetterman proposes a model for educational excellence in terms of the mainstream U.S. educational system. The book will provide new insights for educators and policymakers working in our educational system as they strive to meet the needs of gifted and talented students.
