Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does a giant hairy apelike creature roam the forests and swamps of North America? If so, this huge creature has managed to keep pretty well hidden, but is seen from time to time. Bigfoot is seen lurking in the shadows of strip malls in the Pacific Northwest and photographed walking across a stream or hiding behind a tree. He is watching hikers as they move through the forest and occasionally kidnaps children or murders solitary people who are in the woods. Childress gives us the latest bigfoot sightings and photos and looks at how the hairy giant has crept into the American psyche as time goes on. Childress starts at the beginning, telling the story behind an apparent bigfoot photo from the 1800s, and the tale of how the creature got its name in the 1950s. Bigfoot is present throughout the country, and Childress relates stories of sightings Back East, in the American Southwest, California and Pacific Northwest. He discusses bigfoot that make lots of noise, and presents photos throughout, including a special eight-page color photo section.

Book excerpt: For years, scientists and researchers have studied, speculated about, and searched for an enigmatic creature that is legendary in the annals of American folklore. Now, learn the truth about... BIGFOOT! In this fascinating and comprehensive look at the fact, fiction, and fable of the North American "Sasquatch," award-winning author Loren Coleman takes readers on a journey into America's biggest mystery -- could an unrecognized "ape" be living in our midst? Drawing on over forty years of investigations, interviews, and fieldwork on these incredible beasts, Coleman explores the modern debates about these powerful, ape-like creatures, why they have remained a mystery for so long, and what we can learn about ourselves from these animals, our nearest cousins! From reports of Bigfoot's existence found in ancient Native American traditions, to the controversial Patterson-Gimlin film of a Bigfoot in the wild, to today's Internet sites that record the sightings almost as soon as they occur, Coleman uncovers the past, explains the present, and considers the future of one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in the natural world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who or what is Bigfoot? The simplest description is of a huge, hairy, muscular bipedal creature like a big ape and covered in hair ranging from black to brown to red to white depending it seems on the season as well you might see. The average heights reported are six to nine feet tall. Numerous North American peoples have mythologies concerning this mysterious creature and that would be an enormous book in its own right. I will stick to this which is the largest set of books on Bigfoot ever published which due to its size. It is in four volumes in paperback format. Over twelve hundred pages of Bigfoot encounters from all over the North America! All of the sources are in the bibliography and are published or available on very reputable sites on the internet such as BFRO. Many are anonymous but I believe that this can be disregarded. Bigfoot is still a controversial subject. You might notice that some of your favorite reports of Bigfoot might be missing. I know that your Grandma saw something in the local lake or woods or sky but she never did mention when and sometimes even where so Grandma's sighting will not be included. This also applies to plenty of other sightings. No dates so no entry. Even a year is enough and the name of the locality. Neither of these is a no show. But there are thousands more so find out about what might have or still might be lurking in your neighborhood. This is not your normal road map as we visit all over the continent. Happy travelling! You will be amazed as to what you will find in your state or even your neighborhood! Not all states start at 1800 either but I will try and start with datable and generally findable events. Some have plenty of sightings, some have very few and a lot of places that you thought had none actually had quite a few. I have seen various paranormal research organizations on the internet disappearing without trace and all of their accumulated data and knowledge with them. That is why I like books. Even after the last website crashes there might well be a lone paperback sitting in a thrift shop, safe with its repository of knowledge. Is Bigfoot rare? This book says NO! You be the judge.Volume One is Alaska, British Columbia, California, Oregon and Washington. Volume Two is Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Utah, Volume Three is Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Jersey, New York, Nova Scotia, Pennsylvania, Quebec, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.Volume Four is Idaho, Alberta, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Manitoba, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Ohio, Ontario, Saskatchewan, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Wyoming and Yukon Territory. This is the largest series of Bigfoot reports ever put in book form.

Book excerpt: Biography of Thomas Blanck who was one of America's most dangerous gunmen. The book portrays the western gunslinger as he really was, a psychopathic killer. Blanck was not the romanticized, stereotypical gunman of the Old West. He was an extremely dangerous, remorseless, antisocial, psychopathic killer. And yet, when he was caught and put on trial, he actually gained the idolization bestowed upon the fictionalized desperadoes of western movies. While Blanck had none of the redeeming qualities portrayed by Hollywood's gunslingers, his life story is just as dramatic as any celluloid scenario. The first part of the story begins with a brief look at Blanck's childhood in New York and follows him as he makes his way to the Pacific Northwest and takes a few lives in the process. The second part describes his capture and subsequent trial for first-degree murder. The third part of the story focuses on his escape and the ensuing manhunt. Part four depicts the final part of Blanck's life and death. Lastly, there is a psychological assessment of the cold-blooded killer. Thomas Blanck was said to be able to shoot the center out of a dime at thirty feet. But he was no romanticized, stereotypical gunman of the Old West. He was an extremely dangerous, antisocial, remorseless killer. And, yet, when Blanck was caught and put on trial, he actually gained the idolization bestowed upon the fictionalized desperadoes of western movies. While the young man had none of the redeeming qualities portrayed by Hollywood's gunslingers, his life story is just as dramatic as any celluloid scenario. Cold Lead: The Life, Times and Death of 1890s Killer Tom Blanck is a fascinating account of the life of one of America's most dangerous gunmen. But more than just a history of the man, the book presents the political, social and economic conditions that were present in the U.S. at that time, and the author puts forward various factors that may have contributed to the events that occurred-not only Blanck's actions, but also the resulting public reaction. Blanck was a petty thief specializing in burglary and robbing saloons, and he would kill anyone, anytime, under any circumstances in order to carry out his deeds. The first part of the story begins by introducing readers to the man and takes a brief look at his childhood in New York. It follows the outlaw as he makes his way west to the Pacific Northwest and takes a few lives in the process. The second part describes his capture and subsequent trial for first-degree murder. In this section particularly, the book gives readers a closer look into the behavior and psychology of the killer through numerous newspaper accounts and quotes from people involved with the story at the time. The third part of the story focuses on his escape and the ensuing chase and capture, one of the greatest manhunts on record. Part four depicts the final part of Blanck's story-his death and burial, which isn't exactly straightforward. Lastly, there is a psychological assessment of the cold-blooded killer. The book also includes a foreword, preface, introduction, epilogue, endnotes, bibliography and index.

Book excerpt: A global survey of unknown creatures reported by thousands of eyewitnesses—creatures that have either been verified, refuted, or are still being examined by scientific researchers. Hidden Animals: A Field Guide to Batsquatch, Chupacabra, and Other Elusive Creatures welcomes readers into the fascinating world of cryptozoology—the scientific pursuit of legendary creatures that sometimes reveals hoaxes and sometimes identifies real, previously unknown species. Compiled by Michael Newton, author of the acclaimed Encyclopedia of Cryptozoology, it is the first comprehensive guide covering the crossroads of zoology and folklore written for both the young and the young at heart. Organized by type of creature type, such as giant animals, missing links, and living fossils, Hidden Animals surveys various beings reported and pursued worldwide from ancient times to the present, in every corner of the globe. In the process, it relates classic myths and legends to identified flesh-and-blood animals. Readers will be captivated by both the scientific evidence supporting the existence of specific cryptids and the exposure of notorious frauds or cases of mistaken identity.
