Corpus linguistic methods and netnographic reflections are used to explore how incels construct ideologies about gender, gendered social actors, and race/ethnicity, as well as where these concepts intersect. Taking a post-structuralist critical analysis to this community reveals a number of way ideologies towards different groups based on social identities are linguistically constructed. While there have been few heinous physical attacks by individuals self-identifying as incels, their ideologies also pose a significant threat to the struggle to end misogyny. This thesis explores and identifies connections between neoliberalism and incel ideologies. A netnographic method was employed to collect qualitative data from a range of social media communities. Six major themes emerged from these data: resentment, hopelessness, coping with ontological insecurity, inauthentic women, significance of sexual relations, and the sexualization and objectification of women. These themes are connected to contemporary features of neoliberal ideology, and finds that incels either acknowledge but reject these neoliberal expectations or incorporate them into their own belief systems.

The goal is to show that alt-right and Incel ideologies often go hand in hand. There is a misogynist and an anti-feminist agenda that runs like a red thread through the manifests of extreme right attackers and still, there is almost no public discussion addressing it. Since the intent of this paper is to show connections between extreme right and Incel ideologies we will first make sense of the Incel movement as a whole and the so called ‚Manosphere‘. Subsequently, we will examine the similar characteristics of the Incel and extreme right world view, and have a look at three case studies of recent domestic terrorist attacks, examine their motive, their underlining ideologies and discuss whether its perpetrators can be ascribed to both the extreme right and the Incel community.
