Download or read book Safety at Height written by Natarajan Krishnamurthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-05-20 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everybody climbs up or down for some reason or other. Many fall and get injured or, worse, end up killed all over the world, especially in their place of work. Why does it happen? Does it have to be so? Can it be managed better and, if so, how? This book addresses these questions in layman’s language, yet with sufficient technical detail to satisfy the more curious and challenge the more ambitious. In Safety at Height: A Holistic View of Fall Management, veteran author Natarajan Krishnamurthy shares his long research and consultancy experience on this subject to offer an overview of falls, methods to manage them, and practical techniques to ensure better safety. This book argues that deaths and major injuries from fall accidents can be prevented by stakeholders knowing more and following guidelines. It looks at the mechanics of falls, accidents in the workplace, and safeguards that can be put in place. Featuring exercises at the end of chapters to underpin learning, this title concludes with unusual fall situations. Through its pages, the reader will develop a good understanding of how to prevent falls across a variety of different real-life scenarios. This handy guide will be an ideal read for students, researchers, and professionals in occupational safety and health, human factors, and activities where slips, trips, and falls tend to occur.

Book Synopsis Introductory Psychology and the Human Condition by : Jeffrey C. Levy
Download or read book Introductory Psychology and the Human Condition written by Jeffrey C. Levy and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-17 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory Psychology and the Human Condition provides an engaging, cohesive, and practical treatment of traditional psychological principles and theories. The book uses Maslow’s human needs hierarchy and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory of development as organizational schemas for considering how cultures have evolved to address human needs. It relates major psychological processes including biology, perception, motivation, learning, and cognition to lifespan and personality development in nomadic hunter-gatherer and technologically enhanced cultures. Human history is described as a feedback loop in which inventions and technologies result in the need for individuals and cultures to adapt to changing environmental and social conditions. By applying interdisciplinary perspectives of the humanities, social and natural sciences, and helping professions to the human condition, it offers a meaningful lens through which to study and interpret core psychological concepts. Chapters are supported by self-understanding and self-control exercises that help students place their lives within a cultural and historical context and apply the principles of psychology to themselves. Offering an engaging overview of the essential elements of an introductory psychology course in an accessible and approachable style, Introductory Psychology and the Human Condition is core reading for introductory students and will appeal also to a general audience interested in psychology.

Book Synopsis The Biological Standard Of Living On Three Continents by : John Komlos
Download or read book The Biological Standard Of Living On Three Continents written by John Komlos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-11 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effort of anthropometric historians to unearth the broad patterns of human biological well-being has led to the examination of nearly forgotten, centuries-old records from dusty archives in practically all the continents of the globe. French historians in the Annales tradition were among the first to adopt methods from physical anthropology and from the biological sciences, but the real expansion of the field dates from the pathbreaking work of Richard Steckel and Robert Fogel, which launched the discipline of anthropometric history on American soil Research has confirmed that physical stature is related to nutritional status and therefore to real family income, and thus to the general standard of living. Historians and development economists will find this line of research useful, as it informs us about the standard of living of members of society for whom data on wages are seldom available—women, children, aristocrats, farmers, and slaves. In addition, this research has shown that the biological standard of living may diverge from conventional indicators of welfare during the early stages of industrialization. Thus, per capita income is an ambiguous measure of welfare during some phases of growth, and it must be supplemented with data from other indicators, such as physical stature. The essays in this volume broaden our knowledge of the human effects of the momentous economic changes of the last two centuries, extending analysis to regions for which such information has been lacking, including Russia, Canada, Indonesia, Italy, and Spain.
