In the United States, he met the Bahá’í Faith. Soon after graduating, he moved to South Africa as a pioneer for the Bahá’í Faith. At his pioneering post, he served as a Coordinator on the Literature Committee, translating Bahá’í Writings into South African languages. During that time, Dr. Walker, or “Mike Walker,” as he was known to his friends, also served as the Recording Secretary of the National Spiritual Assembly of South Africa, an administrative body in the Bahá’í Faith. Michael Walker passed on at his pioneering post in 2021 and is buried in South Africa as one of several pioneers whose many efforts played a crucial role in establishing the Bahá’í Faith in that country. This book is written by a friend who met him on his arrival in South Africa in 1969s.

Book excerpt: In Pursuit of Meaning to Riddles By: Robert Mazibuko The writing of a story of one’s life may be regarded as being halfway between being objective and being subjective. But if the inner principle of one’s life is in contradiction to their outer behavior, one has to face difficult life patterns. Such patterns have a tendency of engendering dire consequences for the individual. However, if one takes life in hand and sincerely pursues a path of adhering to inner principle and belief, they can then easily answer: “This is what I attempted to do with all talents I had been granted to work with in my life.” This book pursues a path of accounting for behavior by relating that to the associated principle of life, and tracing such patterns in so far as they explain the inner principle or how far they deviate there from. It is brief but the idea is there.

Mary Waters, however, tells a very different story. She finds that the values that gain first-generation immigrants initial success--a willingness to work hard, a lack of attention to racism, a desire for education, an incentive to save--are undermined by the realities of life and race relations in the United States. Contrary to long-held beliefs, Waters finds, those who resist Americanization are most likely to succeed economically, especially in the second generation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For patients and their loved ones, no care decisions are more profound than those made near the end of life. Unfortunately, the experience of dying in the United States is often characterized by fragmented care, inadequate treatment of distressing symptoms, frequent transitions among care settings, and enormous care responsibilities for families. According to this report, the current health care system of rendering more intensive services than are necessary and desired by patients, and the lack of coordination among programs increases risks to patients and creates avoidable burdens on them and their families. Dying in America is a study of the current state of health care for persons of all ages who are nearing the end of life. Death is not a strictly medical event. Ideally, health care for those nearing the end of life harmonizes with social, psychological, and spiritual support. All people with advanced illnesses who may be approaching the end of life are entitled to access to high-quality, compassionate, evidence-based care, consistent with their wishes. Dying in America evaluates strategies to integrate care into a person- and family-centered, team-based framework, and makes recommendations to create a system that coordinates care and supports and respects the choices of patients and their families. The findings and recommendations of this report will address the needs of patients and their families and assist policy makers, clinicians and their educational and credentialing bodies, leaders of health care delivery and financing organizations, researchers, public and private funders, religious and community leaders, advocates of better care, journalists, and the public to provide the best care possible for people nearing the end of life.

This is a traditional approach to management using the leading, planning, organizing, and controlling approach. Management is a broad business discipline, and the Principles of Management course covers many management areas such as human resource management and strategic management, as well as behavioral areas such as motivation. No one individual can be an expert in all areas of management, so an additional benefit of this text is that specialists in a variety of areas have authored individual chapters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past three decades, many history professors have allowed their biases to distort the way America’s past is taught. These intellectuals have searched for instances of racism, sexism, and bigotry in our history while downplaying the greatness of America’s patriots and the achievements of “dead white men.” As a result, more emphasis is placed on Harriet Tubman than on George Washington; more about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II than about D-Day or Iwo Jima; more on the dangers we faced from Joseph McCarthy than those we faced from Josef Stalin. A Patriot’s History of the United States corrects those doctrinaire biases. In this groundbreaking book, America’s discovery, founding, and development are reexamined with an appreciation for the elements of public virtue, personal liberty, and private property that make this nation uniquely successful. This book offers a long-overdue acknowledgment of America’s true and proud history.
