Book excerpt: Teaching pastor at the influential New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Daniel Grothe explains the Bible's blueprint for becoming the kind of person who can deal with all of life's challenges. Some people have learned how to live. They can handle all that life brings. They are composed. They radiate strength. They are whole, with lives worth emulating, and when they speak people listen. They are, in a word, wise. How did these people get wisdom? And perhaps more importantly, how can we? In his long-awaited first book, Daniel Grothe of New Life church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, shows us how to get wisdom for ourselves by examining what the Bible has to say about it and by providing practical steps for acquiring it, among them: learning to ask for help, loving Scripture, going to Church, living quietly, and, above all, seeking those who are themselves wise. Drawing upon Scripture and upon his own experience learning from his friend and mentor Eugene Peterson, Grothe shows how our lives can be secured by the resource that will keep us from collapsing under the onslaught of the difficulties of life. Wisdom is available to us. It takes work to pursue it. Chasing Wisdom reveals how.

Written as a series of letters with anecdotes and life lessons, this book reveals truths such as: • Love is the greatest power in the universe and a gift from nature to humanity—it is a language that the blind can understand, the deaf can feel, and the whole world can recognize. • Quitting is never a good option. Too many lose their belief after hitting the first roadblock on the way to achievement. We need to find strength of purpose again if we are to achieve anything that is worthwhile in life. • No one is as wretched as the person who despairs of the present, is troubled by the past, and is anxious about the future. True wealth lies in each day. Find it while you are still here. Filled with insights and inspirational messages from the Bible and thinkers such as Seneca, Lao Tzu, and Mother Teresa, this book won’t just bring you comfort—it will provide you with a purposeful direction as you seek wisdom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the Pursuit of Wisdom is the search for transcendent truth, in order to find goodness/ justice, and perfect beauty. Faith and Reason are also essential especially when somethings is not fathomable. The end objective of all wisdom is to find Perfect Love. Reviewed By Rabia Tanveer for Readers' Favorite Review Rating: 5-Stars - Congratulations on your 5-star review! Pursuit of Wisdom by Robert T. Fertig is a book about finding the truth in everything that surrounds us. We all want acceptance and unconditional love; we crave it and it is in our most basic nature. However, we are also curious by nature, which is the reason why we need to know and understand the meaning behind the most common things in life. From understanding the "truth" of cultural change, climate change and even how or if we can live together as a community, these are the questions that we ask ourselves every day. The author talks about how these truths are important, how they are necessary for us to build a community, build trust and understand what it takes to accept every human being as a valuable addition to the community. The author shares his thoughts about his general understanding of what truth is, what is goodness, what exactly is justice and how every basic need of humans comes down to finding the most objective answer to their questions. Everything has a "truth" and if you understand that, you can understand everything else. This is the beginning of an awakening that the author believes every reader should have. I have immense respect for the author for conveying such a complicated idea in such a simple yet eloquent way. He had control over the narrative, he had a flow in mind and he executed it perfectly. I enjoyed the fact that the author didn't force anything on the reader; he just laid out his ideas and his thoughts on the pages and gave it to the reader to make whatever they want with it. This is enlightening and educational at the same time.

Wisdom has been around as long as man has existed. It has been passed down from one generation to the next, with each generation adding their own to the previous generation's store of wisdom. The way wisdom has been passed from generation to generation has been through short witty sayings, proverbs, and words of wisdom. This book is a collection of quotes and proverbs the author has collected in his pursuit of wisdom. Read. Think. Meditate. And become wise!

Book excerpt: Wisdom seekers are searching for Truth, Knowledge, Justice, Beauty, and Love. We constantly encounter "raw data and sound bites," which is meaningless, unintelligent information without much truth or knowledge. The actual purpose of Wisdom is the Pursuit of Transcendent truths, whereby we hope to find Goodness, Justice, and Beauty. In our Pursuit, Faith and Reason is essential, especially when we do not fully understand society, nor the physical universe. The end objective of All Wisdom is finding Perfect Love. Can we really speak of, and defend, "Universal Human Rights," in a cultural climate in which the very idea of "truth" is under sustained assault? Culture battles are ongoing debates-a continuing struggle- between those who believe that human beings can, however inadequately, grasp the truth of how we ought to live together, and those for whom any notion of faith and "transcendent truth" involves an unacceptable imposition of someone's values on someone else. Nevertheless, Truth never changes!

Monographic studies in the book, which entail many new interpretations of Van GoghOs and GauguinOs imagery, reveal the ways in which their ideas and the specific events of their personal lives shaped their creation of meaningful symbolic motifs. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy is born in its history as pursuit of the wisdom we are never able fully to know. Mystery and Intelligibility: History of Philosophy as Pursuit of Wisdom both argues for that method and presents the results it can achieve. Editor Jeffrey Dirk Wilson has gathered essays from six philosophical luminaries. In “History, Philosophy, and the History of Philosophy,” Timothy B. Noone provides the volume’s discourse on method in which he distinguishes three tiers of history. History of philosophy as method occupies the third and highest tier. John Rist reckons with contemporary corruption of the method in “A Guide for the Perplexed or How to Present or Pervert the History of Philosophy.” Wilson’s own essay, “Wonder and the Discovery of Being: From Homeric Myth to the Natural Genera of Early Greek Philosophy,” shows the loss of wonder, so evident in mythology, by early Greek thinkers and its recovery by Plato and Aristotle. In “Metaphysics and the Origin of Culture,” Donald Phillip Verene demonstrates the wide cultural implications of philosophical discoveries even when the discovery is the boundary of what humans can know. William Desmond offers an essay, “Flux-Gibberish: For and Against Heraclitus,” that owes as much to the humor of James Joyce as to the philosophical insights of philosophers, ancient, medieval, and modern. Eric D. Perl’s essay turns to the apophatic character of pursuing wisdom, perhaps especially when asking what may be the most fundamental metaphysical question: “Into the Dark: How (Not) to Ask, ‘Why is There Anything at All.’” Philipp W. Rosemann concludes the volume with the question best asked at the end of this literary seminar, “What is Philosophy?” Although there are philosophers within the analytic and continental schools who are committed to the history of philosophy, Mystery and Intelligibility demonstrates that history of philosophy as a third and distinct philosophical method is revelatory of the nature and structure of reality.
