Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Electronic Imaging Systems by : William F. Schreiber
Download or read book Fundamentals of Electronic Imaging Systems written by William F. Schreiber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image processing is a fascinating applications area, not a fundamental science of sufficient generality to warrant studying it for its own sake. In this area, there are many opportunities to apply art and experience, as well as knowledge from a number of sciences and engineering disciplines, to the creation of products and processes for which society has an expressed need. Without this need, work in the field would be sterile, but with it, image processing can readily provide the interested scientist or engineer with a professioilal lifetime of challenging problems and corresponding rewards. This point of view motivates this book and has influenced the selection and treatment of topics. I have not attempted to 1 be encyclopedic; this service has already been performed by others. It will be noted that the word "digital" is not in the title of this book. While much of present-day image processing is implemented digitally, this work is not intended for those who think of image processing as a branch of digital signal processing, except, perhaps, to try to change their minds. Image gathering and image display, vital parts of the field with strong effects on image quality, are inherently analog, as are all of the channels and media now used, or likely to be used in the future, to record TV signals and to transmit them to the home.

Book Synopsis The Impact of New Electronic Imaging Systems on U.S. Air Force Visual Information Professionals by :
Download or read book The Impact of New Electronic Imaging Systems on U.S. Air Force Visual Information Professionals written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does using electronic imaging technology affect a media professional's self-reported job satisfaction, job diversity, and their attitude toward change in the workplace? Senior Air Force visual information (VI) managers have set aside up to $40 million dollars to buy new electronic imaging equipment over four years. This study examined the impact of these electronic imaging systems on job outcomes such as job diversity, job satisfaction, and attitude toward change. A mail questionnaire was used to collect data from Air Force VI professionals on their use of electronic imaging systems and their job- attitudes. From the data, it was concluded that media professionals who use more electronic imaging technologies have greater job diversity, job interest, and job satisfaction than those who use them less or not at all. It was also found that using new imaging technologies can increase acceptance of the future introduction of new technology. Training and system 'user friendliness' were found to increase user acceptance of electronic imaging systems. Data on Air force training for new systems showed that better training is needed to support the implementation process.

Book Synopsis Registries for Evaluating Patient Outcomes by : Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality/AHRQ
Download or read book Registries for Evaluating Patient Outcomes written by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality/AHRQ and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This User’s Guide is intended to support the design, implementation, analysis, interpretation, and quality evaluation of registries created to increase understanding of patient outcomes. For the purposes of this guide, a patient registry is an organized system that uses observational study methods to collect uniform data (clinical and other) to evaluate specified outcomes for a population defined by a particular disease, condition, or exposure, and that serves one or more predetermined scientific, clinical, or policy purposes. A registry database is a file (or files) derived from the registry. Although registries can serve many purposes, this guide focuses on registries created for one or more of the following purposes: to describe the natural history of disease, to determine clinical effectiveness or cost-effectiveness of health care products and services, to measure or monitor safety and harm, and/or to measure quality of care. Registries are classified according to how their populations are defined. For example, product registries include patients who have been exposed to biopharmaceutical products or medical devices. Health services registries consist of patients who have had a common procedure, clinical encounter, or hospitalization. Disease or condition registries are defined by patients having the same diagnosis, such as cystic fibrosis or heart failure. The User’s Guide was created by researchers affiliated with AHRQ’s Effective Health Care Program, particularly those who participated in AHRQ’s DEcIDE (Developing Evidence to Inform Decisions About Effectiveness) program. Chapters were subject to multiple internal and external independent reviews.

Book Synopsis Real-Time Image and Video Processing by : Nasser Kehtarnavaz
Download or read book Real-Time Image and Video Processing written by Nasser Kehtarnavaz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an overview of the guidelines and strategies for transitioning an image or video processing algorithm from a research environment into a real-time constrained environment. Such guidelines and strategies are scattered in the literature of various disciplines including image processing, computer engineering, and software engineering, and thus have not previously appeared in one place. By bringing these strategies into one place, the book is intended to serve the greater community of researchers, practicing engineers, industrial professionals, who are interested in taking an image or video processing algorithm from a research environment to an actual real-time implementation on a resource constrained hardware platform. These strategies consist of algorithm simplifications, hardware architectures, and software methods. Throughout the book, carefully selected representative examples from the literature are presented to illustrate the discussed concepts. After reading the book, the readers are exposed to a wide variety of techniques and tools, which they can then employ to design a real-time image or video processing system.

Book Synopsis Telemedicine by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Telemedicine written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-10-08 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Telemedicineâ€"the use of information and telecommunications technologies to provide and support health care when distance separates the participantsâ€"is receiving increasing attention not only in remote areas where health care access is troublesome but also in urban and suburban locations. Yet the benefits and costs of this blend of medicine and digital technologies must be better demonstrated before today's cautious decision-makers invest significant funds in its development. Telemedicine presents a framework for evaluating patient care applications of telemedicine. The book identifies managerial, technical, policy, legal, and human factors that must be taken into account in evaluating a telemedicine program. The committee reviews previous efforts to establish evaluation frameworks and reports on results from several completed studies of image transmission, consulting from remote locations, and other telemedicine programs. The committee also examines basic elements of an evaluation and considers relevant issues of quality, accessibility, and cost of health care. Telemedicine will be of immediate interest to anyone with interest in the clinical application of telemedicine.

Book Synopsis Digital Image Quality in Medicine by : Oleg S. Pianykh
Download or read book Digital Image Quality in Medicine written by Oleg S. Pianykh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-21 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making a good diagnostic image is only the beginning; keeping it good and diagnostically sound is a much more difficult proposition, one that is often neglected or forgotten by clinical practitioners. With anything digital, the assumption of persistent original quality opens a Pandora’s box of medical fiascos. Poorly selected image interpolation, thoughtlessly used compression, confused image enhancement options and the like can transform a good original into a useless clutter of pixels. This book is dedicated to learning better options. Intended for physicians, clinical practitioners and applications specialists, it provides a well-rounded introduction to meaningful diagnostic image housekeeping. The book presents the most important aspects of safe digital image workflows, starting from the basic practical implications and gradually uncovering the underlying concepts and algorithms. With an easy-to-follow, down-to-earth presentation style, the text helps you to optimize your diagnostic imaging projects and connect the dots of medical informatics.
