Certaines situations quotidiennes de la classe présentent un intérêt pour le développement langagier des enfants, et l'activité pédagogique de la causerie en fait partie. Bien que cette activité se consacre parfois exclusivement à la lecture du calendrier ou à certains apprentissages académiques, elle possède des qualités qui favorisent le développement du langage oral et des conduites discursives. En effet, selon certains chercheurs, ayant réalisé des études dans le contexte de la maternelle 5 ans, la causerie contribue assurément au développement du langage oral et des conduites discursives. Avec l'aide de l'enseignante et de ses pairs, l'enfant apprend les règles de la conversation à plusieurs, il prend la parole, répète des énoncés déjà entendus ou en formule de nouveaux. Une expérimentation contextualisée qui est essentielle au développement du langage oral et des conduites discursives. Cependant, les recherches concernant les classes de maternelle 4 ans TPMD demeurent assez rares et celles traitant spécifiquement du domaine langagier tout autant. Considérant l'actuel déploiement à grande échelle des maternelles 4 ans pour tous, il importe de poser un regard scientifique sur la situation de ces classes au Québec afin de documenter cette situation et de contribuer à l'avancement des connaissances en ce qui concerne le développement du langage oral et des conduites discursives à la maternelle 4 ans TPMD lors de la causerie. De ces constats se sont donc dégagés deux objectifs de recherche : 1) Documenter les stratégies d'intervention utilisées par les enseignantes de la maternelle 4 ans TPMD qui contribuent au développement du langage oral lors de la causerie et 2) Documenter les stratégies d'intervention utilisées par les enseignantes de la maternelle 4 ans TPMD qui contribuent au développement des conduites discursives lors de la causerie. Afin d'atteindre les objectifs fixés, une démarche de recherche qualitative-interprétative de type descriptif a été adoptée. D'abord, un entretien semi-dirigé a été réalisé avec chacune des trois enseignantes dont deux sont titulaires de classes maternelles 4 ans TPMD et une autre qui est titulaire d'une classe maternelle 4 ans et 5 ans TPMD. Puis, trois observations de la causerie ont suivi dans chacune des classes. Pour terminer la collecte des données et aborder plus en profondeur des thématiques précises avec les enseignantes, un entretien d'explicitation a été réalisé avec chacune d'entre elles. Dans le but de comprendre et d'expliquer les phénomènes observés, la méthode d'analyse de contenu élaborée par l'Écuyer (1987) a été utilisée. Les résultats de cette étude révèlent que les stratégies d'intervention utilisées par les enseignantes de la maternelle 4 ans TPMD qui contribuent au développement du langage oral sont davantage connues et utilisées que celles concernant le développement des conduites discursives. Il semblerait que le jeune âge des enfants et les difficultés que certains rencontrent, concernant le développement de leurs habiletés langagières, freinent les enseignantes dans l'élaboration de séances de langage plus complexes permettant de développer les conduites discursives. Les stratégies d'intervention dans ce domaine précis de développement du langage oral restent méconnues. De plus, il a été constaté que la gestion des comportements et le respect du silence exigent beaucoup d'attention de la part de l'enseignante ce qui restreint parfois les possibilités de discussion. Par ailleurs, les stratégies émergentes observées présentent un intérêt particulier en ce qui concerne le développement du langage oral et des conduites discursives à la maternelle 4 ans TPMD lors de la causerie. La plupart de ces stratégies sont adaptées aux besoins des enfants et présentent des qualités intéressantes pour leur efficacité à stimuler la parole chez les enfants fréquentant la maternelle 4 ans TPMD.

Murray Bowen, M.D., the first researcher to observe several live-in families, for up to three years, at the National Institute of Mental Health. Describing how family members overly influence one another and distribute stress unevenly, Bowen described both how symptoms and family leaders emerge in highly stressed families. Our brain is not organized to automatically perceive that each family has an emotional system, fine-tuned by evolution and "valuing" its survival as a whole, as much as the survival of any individual. It is easier to see this emotional system function in ants or mice but not in humans. The emotional system is organized to snooker us humans: encouraging us to take sides, run away from others, to pressure others, to get sick, to blame others, and to have great difficulty in seeing our part in problems. It is hard to see that we become anxious, stressed out and even that we are difficult to deal with. But "thinking systems" can open the doors of perception, allowing us to experience the world in a different way. This book offers both coaching ideas and stories from leaders as to strategies to break out from social control by de-triangling, using paradoxes, reversals and other types of interruptions of highly linked emotional processes. Time is needed to think clearly about the automatic nature of the two against one triangle. Time and experience is required as we learn strategies to put two people together and get self outside the control of the system. In addition, it takes time to clarify and define one's principles, to know what "I" will or will not do and to be able to take a stand with others with whom we are very involved. The good news is that systems' thinking is possible for anyone. It is always possible for an individual to understand feelings and to integrate them with their more rational brains. In so doing, an individual increases his or her ability to communicate despite misunderstandings or even rejection from important others. The effort involved in creating your Mindful Compass enables us to perceive the relationship system without experiencing it's threats. The four points on the Mindful Compass are: 1) Action for Self, 2) Resistance to Forward Progress, 3) Knowledge of Social Systems and the 4) The Ability to Stand Alone. Each gives us a view of the process one enters when making an effort to define a self and build an emotional backbone. It is not easy to find our way through the social jungle. The ability to know emotional systems well enough to take a position for self and to become more differentiated is part of the natural way humans cope with pressure. Now people can use available knowledge to build an emotional backbone, by thoughtfully altering their part in the relationship system. No one knows how far one can go by making an effort to be more of a self-defined individual in relationships to others. Through increasing emotional maturity, we can find greater individual freedom at the same time that we increase our ability to cooperate and to be close to others.

The Oral Speech Mechanism Screening Examination (OSMSE) is designed primarily for use by clinical speech-language pathologists. The examination could also serve, however, as a useful tool for oral myofunctional therapists, as well as physical therapists, dentists, and orthodontists interested specifically in speech. It is reliable, relatively easy and quick to administer, and appropriate for children and adults in either diagnostic or therapy settings. The OSMSE is intended to assess those anatomical structures and physiological functions that are most often considered to be potentially related to speech or language disorders. Structural and/or functional judgments included are organized on the OSMSE test form under categories of: lips, tongue, jaw, teeth, hard palate, soft palate, pharynx, breathing, and diadochokinesis. Results of a preliminary study with normal speaking subjects indicated that the OSMSE had satisfactory intra- and inter-examiner reliability after minimal training.
