Book excerpt: Excerpt from Immortality the Gift of God Through Jesus Christ: To Be Given Those Only Who Have Part in the First Resurrection After a severe trial in my own mind, I have become satisfied that it is my duty to present my views contained in these pages, to my friends and all who are willing to have their belief, as to the state of the dead and the punishment of the wicked after their resurrection, brought to the test of the Scrip tures. TO know the truth is more safe than to be in error on any subject, but especially on one of infinite importance to us, even that of our future existence and well-being. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible--God's inspired, unerring, and infallible Word--is truly His instruction manual for life and a moral compass for us all to live by. It tells us what is good, what is bad, what is right, and what is wrong. Unfortunately, many people believe that the Bible is no longer relevant today and was only applicable in biblical times. The Bible itself tells us quite the opposite. The issues and problems we face today are essentially the same as those faced by man in biblical times. Human nature has not changed, and God has not changed! Only the times have changed. The Bible has plenty to say about the issues people encounter every day, from the beginning of life to the end of life. I have addressed many of these in this book: "The Evidence of God's Existence;" "Who Was and Is Jesus;" "Being Saved;" "Forgiveness;" "Trials and Tribulations;" "What Happens When You Die;" "Families and Fathers;" "Humility;" "Worrying;" "Depression;" "The Environment and Nature;" "Racism;" "Abortion;" "Homosexuality;" "Adultery;" "Transgenderism;" "Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction;" "The Death Penalty;" "The Right to Bear Arms;" "Government;" "Leadership;" "Man's Laws and God's Laws;" "Suicide;" "Money and the Rich;" "Natural Disasters;" "Satan;" "Demons and the Supernatural; "Creation, the Biblical Timeline, and the Age of the Universe;" and others. People today are pretty much the same as people were in biblical times. Basic human nature and the human condition (being born into sin) have not changed. We face the same challenges, the same temptations, and the same trials and tribulations as the early Christians did. The Bible contains advice and guidance on every possible issue or situation we face, if we only look to it for that guidance and direction and pray to God for wisdom and discernment. In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. (Titus 1:2) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. (Hebrews 6:18) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. (Isaiah 40:8) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8-9) For I am the Lord, I change not. (Malachi 3:6) Finally, you/we should read the Bible like a love letter, not a textbook! John 3:16 tells us, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Book excerpt: What do you believe about souls? There are many very different doctrines taught in the world today concerning souls that are believed to be in all humans. By most a soul is believed to be something that is wholly apart from the person a soul is in; that a soul is something that is that is believed to be complete in its self without the person; it will live after the person it is in is dead; it is believed that a soul will exist forever without the person; it will never be dead; therefore, a soul cannot be resurrected from the dead. It is believed that a soul must live someplace forever, and it will live either in Heaven or Hell even if there is no resurrection. The doctrine of unconditional immortality of a deathless soul being in a person, and that soul leaving that person at the death of the person makes it impossible for Christ to have give His life to save that soul from death; if a soul had immortality it would already have life and could never not have life; all Christ could do is give it a reward or punish it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earle Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell. Peter S. Grice - Igniting an Evangelical Conversation Glenn A.
