Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don and Lucille Henrick are faced with the dilemma of losing their one and only daughter to Cancer. They also could not have any more children due to Lucille’s medical condition. They considered themselves good and strong Christians in the Biblical teachings of Jesus Christ, especially that there is life after death because of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. They also raised their one and only daughter Alice in those beliefs, never anticipating any illness later would occur which would spiritually test them. Alice was so much a joy to them in every aspect of their lives. Could they stay strong in their beliefs if their daughter succumbed to the disease? Naturally, as Christians, they kept their hopes up in prayer that Alice would recovery. But at the tender age of 8, Alice dies. The story tells the circumstances of the couple’s struggles before and after Alice’s death, and how they overcame their sorrow because of their religious beliefs. My Motivation In Writing This Book: Though this book is fiction, it is also my conviction that death is not the end of life, for those who believe in Jesus Christ’s teachings. Some of the story is based upon what occurred after the death of my father and mother, especially since I too thought I heard my father call my name, after his death. When my mother died, I also never experienced such “peace” in a room such as what I never experienced before; and I saw an unusual light leaving a window in the room (which was not caused by a light bulb). I believe it was my mother’s spirit. How many have kept similar incidences in their memories believing if they told them, they would possibly be considered insane.

Fromm creates an engrossing coming-of-age saga that cuts to the essence and shines."(Seattle Times). As she races at breakneck pace toward womanhood, everything is at stake for her, producing an urgency and dread that she holds at bay with humor and grace. But while Lucy charges ahead, her mother's youth is fading. Simultaneously embracing and resisting their similarities, Pete Fromm reveals both women's emotional vulnerabilities and their deep mutual need. Book excerpt: Contemporary Queer Plays by Russian Playwrights is the first anthology of LGBTQ-themed plays written by Russian queer authors and straight allies in the 21st century. The book features plays by established and emergent playwrights of the Russian drama scene, including Roman Kozyrchikov, Andrey Rodionov and Ekaterina Troepolskaya, Valery Pecheykin, Natalya Milanteva, Olzhas Zhanaydarov, Vladimir Zaytsev, and Elizaveta Letter. Writing for children, teenagers, and adults, these authors explore gay, lesbian, trans, and other queer lives in prose and in verse. From a confession-style solo play to poetic satire on contemporary Russia; from a play for children to love dramas that have been staged for adult-only audiences in Moscow and other cities, this important anthology features work that was written around or after 2013-the year when the law on the prohibition of “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors” was passed by the Russian government. These plays are universal stories of humanity that spread a message of tolerance, acceptance, and love and make clear that a queer scenario does not necessarily have to end in a tragedy just because it was imagined and set in Russia. They show that breathing, growing old, falling in love, falling out of love, and falling in love again can be just as challenging and rewarding in Moscow and elsewhere in Russia as it can be in New York, Tokyo, Johannesburg, or Buenos Aires.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shirley Booth-Byerly has been addicted to the study of genealogy since childhood; she loves the never-ending battle of discovering subtle links, possibilities, impossibilities, and misconceptions. In God, Ghosts, and Grannies, she tells the story of her family—where they came from and how they settled in South Alabama and Northwest Florida. Telling the events as literary nonfiction and taking genealogy to a new level, her story shares insights from six generations, six unique individuals, each viewing life from slightly skewed, rose-colored glasses. Shirley melds humor, drama, and a living experience with research, resources, and revelations. Gods, Ghosts, and Grannies narrates a story of people’s lives, their hopes, their dreams, and the realities they faced while struggling, working, and tending their homes; the same homes that convey tranquil memories, laughter, sunshine, and contentment—memories forever gone when no one is left to tell the stories or no one cares to listen.
