Download or read book Vurt written by Jeff Noon and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hailed as the novel that reinvented cyberpunk, The 30th Anniversary edition of Jeff Noon's award winning cult classic, Vurt. Scribble and his gang, the Stash Riders, haunt the streets of an alternate Manchester, chasing the immersive highs that come from Vurt Feathers. Place a feather in your mouth and it takes you to the Vurt: another place, a trip, a shared reality of all our dreams and mythologies. Different coloured feathers provide different experiences, but Scribble is searching for his lost love and only one feather offers the hope of finding her. It’s the ultimate feather, it may not even exist at all: Curious Yellow. But as the Game Cat says, “Be careful, be very careful. This ride is not for the weak.” First published in 1993, Jeff Noon’s extraordinary, influential, award-winning novel transcended SF boundaries and resisted categorization. Alluding to noir and surrealism alike, it was defiantly its own thing and remains so thirty years later. File Under: Fantasy [ Curious Yellow | Urban Wonderland | Game Cat | Living on the Dub Side ]
Book Synopsis Have You Seen the Rabbit in the Nut? by : Simon Bailey
Download or read book Have You Seen the Rabbit in the Nut? written by Simon Bailey and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-03-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel follows the life of the character Rob Jordan and is divided into three sections; Shouting to myself, Nine out of ten videos are shit and Because of the ants. In the first section, set in 1994, Rob is a struggling newly qualified teacher; lonely and frustrated at home and depressed at work. In section two, in 1999, Rob has been promoted to the dole and spends his time fantasising about murdering his vicar flatmate, whilst becoming involved in an ill-fated love triangle. The last section, set in 2004, sees Rob on the run and a series of flashbacks reveal that he has killed a man. The tone is comic but the novel does attempt to deal with contemporary issues. At a rough estimate, there is a profound slice of wisdom about every six gags. Six and a half maximum. And if you are still not convinced, if you do read a more amusing book about teaching or being on the dole this millennium, you get a free rabbit in a nut. Guaranteed.
Book Synopsis A World Lit Only by Fire by : William Manchester
Download or read book A World Lit Only by Fire written by William Manchester and published by Back Bay Books. This book was released on 2009-09-26 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A "lively and engaging" history of the Middle Ages (Dallas Morning News) from the acclaimed historian William Manchester, author of The Last Lion. From tales of chivalrous knights to the barbarity of trial by ordeal, no era has been a greater source of awe, horror, and wonder than the Middle Ages. In handsomely crafted prose, and with the grace and authority of his extraordinary gift for narrative history, William Manchester leads us from a civilization tottering on the brink of collapse to the grandeur of its rebirth: the dense explosion of energy that spawned some of history's greatest poets, philosophers, painters, adventurers, and reformers, as well as some of its most spectacular villains. "Manchester provides easy access to a fascinating age when our modern mentality was just being born." --Chicago Tribune

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Manchester's epic and definitive account of President John F. Kennedy's assassination. As the world still reeled from the tragic and historic events of November 22, 1963, William Manchester set out, at the request of the Kennedy family, to create a detailed, authoritative record of the days immediately preceding and following President John F. Kennedy's death. Through hundreds of interviews, abundant travel and firsthand observation, and with unique access to the proceedings of the Warren Commission, Manchester conducted an exhaustive historical investigation, accumulating forty-five volumes of documents, exhibits, and transcribed tapes. His ultimate objective -- to set down as a whole the national and personal tragedy that was JFK's assassination -- is brilliantly achieved in this galvanizing narrative, a book universally acclaimed as a landmark work of modern history.

He is a paranoid, germophobic, neurotic, annoyed, irritated, obsessive compulsive man filled with syndromes and disorders. As a child, he liked to mess up his hair and jump up and down making up words trying to sound like a caveman. He began to write short stories about crazy things that have happened in his life, which was a suggestion from his sister who has known for quite some time that he is crazy. The result was this book - a collection of true short stories, and rants and raves, that led to his emotional instability. Read it with caution.

Download or read book Winging It written by Tommy Tiernan and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A great read' Brendan O'Connor, RTÉ In nearly three decades as a performer, Tommy Tiernan has never wanted to play it safe. So, when it came to doing a chat show, he threw out the rule book: going in blind, not knowing who would turn up. It could be a global star, like Adam Clayton, or a statesman like Michael D Higgins, or someone unknown to Tommy (and most of his audience), like autism awareness activist, Ciara-Beth Ni Ghriofa or geneticist Aoife McLysaght. It's high-wire stuff and makes for electrifying viewing. Winging It brings together twenty-one extraordinary interviews from The Tommy Tiernan Show on RTÉ One - a mix of the profound, the profane, the funny and the moving. Tommy's belief in honest conversation is at the heart of Winging It. Whether getting to grips with the finer points of boxing with World Champion Kellie Harrington or preserving history with archivist Catriona Crowe. Or talking God with old friend Michael Harding or mental health with Blindboy Boatclub. Or sitting with moments of pain in conversations about grief (Bob Geldof), FGM (Ifrah Ahmed) or drinking (Paul McGrath). It's all about curiosity, bravery and a willingness to listen. Winging It includes material that did not make the TV screen and the interviews are as gripping to read as they were to watch. 'Tiernan is superb at forming a rapport ... Seeing his words written down, reveals a natural instinct for drawing people out' Business Post

Book Synopsis He Made the Stars Also by : Cole Huffman
Download or read book He Made the Stars Also written by Cole Huffman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You probably know that Jesus did miracles, but do you know why? Reading about Jesus’ miracles is like pointing at constellations in the sky. We look at the stars themselves, not the finger pointing at them. This constellation of seven miracles in John’s Gospel shows us who Jesus was and why it matters. It is the miracle worker we’re to see, not just the miracles. Why was his turning water into wine not a party trick? Why did he walk on water instead of staying on shore? Why did he cry when raising Lazarus back to life? Each miracle in John’s narration is a story that had to be told. The Jesus you meet in these pages is full of power and compassion, glory and approachability, grace and truth. Whether you’ve known Jesus a long time, are new to faith, or just curious about him, He Made the Stars Also draws upon John’s seven sign events to show you why Jesus remains so compelling.
